Hey guys,
Long time lurker on this board but finally have something to add to the discussion. I recieved my notice as well and after looking around at some other boards I saw a lot of people were getting offered free superfan plus a $20 credit for 6 months by calling up. The key is you need to get to the save team not regular customer care. When you are prompted as to why you are calling say cancel service and you will be directed to the save team.

I called up yesterday and told the rep I was concerned about the cost and some of my friends had told me that they were offered deals. She offered me $50 off superfan right at the start. I told her I wanted the $20 credit plus free superfan and after putting me on hold for a couple of minutes she came back with a $10 credit for 6 months plus free superfan. She told me I couldn't get the $20 credit because I haven't been with directv long enough. I hope this helps anyone else who has sunday ticket and is irritated by what directv charges. Looking forward to a great season of watching the Cards.

Address please? I need a place to watch the cards every week here in seattle. Ill bring the STEAKS and BEER, EVERY WEEK!!

I signed up for Sunday Ticket w/Superfan and after reading this will call over the weekend and then re-post what kind of 'discount' they give me when I try to cancel.

BTW, it's not JUST HD, you get some other perks like watching games on your iphone and computer (including macs :)), and NFL Shortcuts, etc....

Totally worth the money IMO, regardless if I get a 'discount' or not.

Think of all the money you're saving on paying tax and tip and drinks at a bar or what not. Plus the risk of a DUI?

that's how they try to sell it to me ....... i usually counter with that I have an HD receiver, a DVR and a decent sized HD TV why the hell would I want to watch it on my computer?!

i also get to watch the game - so shortcuts really doesn't do much for me

i'm interested in watching one team, the whole game .... so while game mix, red zone channel and all that are neat - i really don't want it

all I want is to see 1 team, in HD, every week

Not sure if this helps the original poster, I haven't had time to read all four pages... but go on the lookout for places that have Cards games on that are more restaurant and less bar. I've found lots of places that have a "restaurant" side or a patio outside and there isnt that bar atmosphere.

I just got off the phone with Dtv. I got the $20 credit per month, but they wouldn't bundle anything else with it. I think I got hosed.

I signed up with DTV back in January as well....

I order every UFC PPV, as well as have the DVR-Plus package... however I hve not ever ordered Sunday Ticket, so if I threaten to cancel, will they offer me a discount even though I have never ordered it before?

and another question, does Sunday ticket only include the regular season? or do we get preseaon games too???

370 is ridiculous, IMO...

370 bucks is close to what you would pay to get 2 decent seats, parking, food, beer, etc for a single NFL game.

I think it's very reasonable.

Yeah, but we aren't trying to pay for that; we're trying to pay for a signal that puts the picture on a TV screen. A signal that, in Canada, costs less than the price of that parking you mentioned.

And in Chicago, that signal only costs 280. :)

So I just got off the phone with 'Heather' from Direct TV. I called and said I wanted to cancel ST because it's just too much. She gave the the $20 credit for 6 months. 10 for Superfan and 10 for ST.

She also threw in 6 months of STARZ and 3 months of SHOWTIME and 1 month of PLAYBOY channel too!!!

I already have HBO or I could have gotten that for free too instead of one of the others. Asked for CINEMAX but couldn't do.

She was in Alabama, but from Texas and a COWBOYS fan :(

Oh well, best experience I ever had with a Cowboys fan ever.

So the guy I dealt with said he couldn't give me a deal on sunday ticket and other properties at the same time. He said that wasn't allowed. So basically, i got lied to.

Further, I'm curious, am I just terrible a this negotiation stuff? Because he put me on hold for 5 minutes trying to get a bit more knocked off the superfan part and came back and said he couldn't get it. So I had to settle for the $20 less per payment alone. Should I have said "that's not enough" and held out for more and started the cancellation process? Basically, force them to bend a bit more? I guess I don't know how far to push this stuff.

This whole thing is so aggravating. I hate that we have to do this dance every year, and I'm never getting the same deal as others. Puts a bad taste in my mouth. This thing just needs to be opened up to competition and let the market do this for us.

Here's what I've learned from dealing with these types of 'retention' reps and working in the banking industry.

Try to build a rapport: It's harder for someone to deny your requests when you like them. She asked why I wanted to cancel ST. I said I didn't realize how much more it was gonna be (lol). She used some scripting about the economy and yada yada. I was like, I like ST and you're right so that she knew that she had a chance to keep me by offering a discount. At first, she tried to just give me 10 bucks off ST. I was like, IDK, that's not gonna do much for me. I just scaled back my movie channels and my bill is still 30 dollars more...

I was like, if I can't have Superfan, there's no point in having it at all and that's when she offered the 10 bucks off that.

Then there was some dead time where she made a comment about how she can't blame me because she loves football too. She had a bit of a Southern accent and I asked where she was, NC? She said no, N. Alabama. I was like oh, you must be a Crimson Tide or Auburn girl. She was like no, I'm from Texas and like the Cowboys. That was my opportunity to move in. I talked about how I hate the Cowboys and their fans, but if she could work some more magic maybe I would change my mind lol.

I then asked if there was any other 'magic' she could work. She said hold on while she looked some stuff up and then I yelled at my puppy for chewing on my blanket. By the end of the call, she was like, 'you're all set, you just need to get a new blanket'.

I'd say that's good rapport and I asked to get transferred to her supervisor's VM and left him a nice message about how great she is. Maybe next time she will give the next person a break too!

Will these tactics work if 'i have never ordered ST before?

I don't know how they will react when I call wanting ST cancelled and threaten to leave, and then they realize I have only been with them for 8 months and they tell me to go screw myself...

thoughts..

I know if you are brand new to directv they'll throw all kinds of stuff if you sign up for sunday ticket when you first get it. If you've been around for 8 months, I'm not sure if they'll do much for you.

It all really comes down to whether you're currently under a contract (usually 2 years) & if you're currently receiving discounts I believe. [Also if you pay your bill on time]

I'm in the same boat. Going to try to shoot for the offer they're giving the brand new customers {which I believe is they're offering 5 months of their Premier package & Sunday ticket for $55/month I believe}.

If that doesn't work, I'll pay for Sunday Ticket IF they throw in SuperFan for free. {I don't think Sunday Ticket is worth it w/o SuperFan}

They have just released details of game pass for UK viewers.

its $240 for the season, that gets you live feed through you pc for all games (reg season only) and 24/7 NFL network shows. UNLESS the game is being shwon live on tv over here in which case it is balcked out.

The TV games package are yet to be announced but last year we there were two on a sunday afternoon and 2 available via nd interactive option on SKY Sports. This year i thin ESPN might get some games (MNF maybe)

so to sum up i will cost me £52 month for Sky, £9 per month for ESPN, £15 per month for game pass, and extra £9 per month if want it in HD.

so to watch the NFL and watch the cards games i will be paying £85 per month. (about $142)

So no NFL free to air football (last season we at least got SNF and MNF) a complete joke and i just cant afford it.

i might end up with Sky and take my chances with the two random games on a sunday, and just watch gamecentre for the cards and try and get Cards Radio streamed.

I struck out with them. I called last night because an announcement came up in the guide about the 'new channel' 289. Its another crime channel my wife loves. It wouldn't come up-error 721 or something, so I called Directv.

They told me that channel was part of the 'HD only' channel package and it was another $5 a month. I told her I already pay for HD and Superfan and I was basically bitter about it and I should cancel the whole thing.

All she offered me was the 'HD only' free for 3 months. I told her to have a nice day and I'll see you later. So I got nuthin.

Yeah, I got half off Sunday ticket by telling the truth (I am a state employee in Pennsylvania and, at that time, wasn't getting paid), but that's all I could get. So I waited and called again, and they said they couldn't give me anything else because I had already gotten half off of Sunday ticket. I started making noise about cancelling, but they had my number, because I've not been with them for 2 years yet. Instead of setting up a cancel, they offered to put my account on hold for six months. Curses, foiled again...er, okay, just foiled once, but still :)
