Clear your mind. Forget all the frustrations of this season. Breath deeply and say the following things to yourself.

We are 11-2
We have won atleast 11 games for two consecutive seasons.
We have won atleast 10 games for three consecutive seasons.
We are going to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
We may very well have a bye week in the playoffs.
They are talking about us on ESPN and NFL network like it's a regular thing now.

One final thing.
The Arizona Cardinals are one of the best franchises in the NFL right now.
This isn't a boast, or a brag, or a cocky statement, it's simply a fact, and that is incredible when you know where we have come from. If you called someone in the 90's on the phone and told them our current situation they would laugh at you and tell you to stop drinking. :)

It's just amazing to me as a lifer because I dont think the younger generation and some of our newer fans who weren't around in the SDS days and even back in the St. Louis days like some of our posters here, but these newer fans just cant understand how emotionally satisfying this is for us who have endured so many bad years as Cardinal fans.

This is all I ever wanted from the Cardinals! Just be good. You dont even have to win it all every year, just be relevant, give me something to cheer for other than being a spoiler in December.

Obviously I want them to win a Superbowl, that will be so amazing when it finally happens, but when I was a kid I didn't dream of the Cardinals winning 10 straight superbowls, really I just wanted them to be one of those good teams that they were always talking about on sportscenter. You know, not just when something spectacular (or disasterous) happened during a Cardinals game. lol

For all Cardinal fans, this is the best it has ever been in our entire lives as far as your fandom with this team is concerned and their status as an NFL franchise. Enjoy it. Cheer for them, get mad at them, curse at them and love them, lol, but just dont forget to stop once in a while and take a look around. It wasn't always like this. THIS, is really, really fun!

Literally; "We started from the bottom now we here!" or maybe We used to be the armpit now we here! lol

Go Cardinals!

Great post, Bert!

I remember getting totally psyched when we cracked the top 20 in someone's NFL power rankings. I remember getting psyched when I knew that my VCR had recorded a Cardinal win during a 5-11 season against the Lions and I could watch it again.
This feeling is amazing!!

Very well said Bert.

Totally agree, we were good for a bit in the 70's, we were good for a short time in the 80's, but this is the best we've been in my lifetime over a period of years

Ditto. While it's nice we're having a good season, it all means crap is we don't win the Super Bowl. Simply going isn't going to cut it. We went when it was painfully obvious we weren't a Super Bowl caliber team. Anything can happen in the playoffs. A lot of work has to be done. Now we get to rest up before travelling east for the biggest game since 2009. But in the end, I would like to see a championship before I die. I root for 4 teams, 1 each in the 4 'major' sports and all of them have championships in my lifetime except the Cards. Hell, even the AFL Soul have a title. But this version of the Cards are the first version that are literal contenders but now we need to close the deal.

Tremendous post. The craziest part for me is my state of mind now while watching the games. For decades, every snap of the game was me on the edge of my seat praying not to get sacked (again) or not to get beat deep (again). Heaven forbid we actually had the lead late, when the overwhelming sense of dread would come in the form of "which unique way are we going to blow this game today"?

But these days? No matter what bad thing might happen in a game, there is just this complete sense of calmness. "That's ok, we will make a play when we need it most and win." It's just weird, but I really love this feeling! Please never go away, unexpected relaxed demeanor version of me.

Thank you Michael Bidwill, Steve Keim, and Bruce Arians - you probably gave me back a few years on the back end of this journey! Go Cards!

man, this is so spot on! there have been SO MANY times in the last 30 years where i remember thinking just HOW BAD this team was! remember jake plummer's behind the back pass? the kansas city qb running for like 99 yards on a play? gramatica injuring himself after a 1st qb field goal celebration? so many games in STL freezing cold when they sucked. preston freaking parsons starting a game at qb in the nfl. kelly stouffer! ryan lindley, God bless him. not just empty seats, but empty SECTIONS at SDS? jeff blake's beautiful "deep ball?" max hall's "moxie?" 49-0 at the chiefs? 58-0 at seattle? so many new and creative ways to lose games?

whoa...sorry. thank you for this post!

Amen Bert.

I had a moment last night during the game.... Just watching as usual,...announcers doing the announcer thing,...when suddenly everything froze and went silent....

then I hear my ol'lady..."did you hear that baby?" she asks,.." they just said the Cardinals are one of the NFL's Elite teams"....

yeah,...I heard it

I actually heard it.
