Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Diamondbacks have had recent conversations with the Padres, Rangers and Mariners regarding a Justin Upton trade.

The D'Backs and Padres have had on-and-off discussions about a potential Upton-for-Chase Headley swap, though not much progress has been made on that front. The Rangers wish to acquire Upton without giving up Jurickson Profar or Elvis Andrus, and are attempting to build a package around Mike Olt, who is the odd man out in Texas after Saturday's signing of Lance Berkman.

I think ARZ really wants to deal him. No reason to keep putting someone on the market when you know teams aren't going to change their offer. ARZ probably realizes that he is not going to re-sign in a couple of years now because he feels unwanted so they are listening because they know that his value decreases the longer they hold on to him. SEA & ATL seem like the most likely trade partners as they both have impressive pitching prospects which seem to be what ARZ is looking for.

A couple of D'Backs in the Truth & Rumors section on SI. Rumor has it that TEX is offering Olt, a top pitching prospect and a "quality" third piece for Upton. I have my doubts because that sounds like a package ARZ should be taking. Also, BAL is rumored to be intersted in Kubel but it appears ARZ is asking for a premium for him which BAL is not willing to meet which includes young pitching.

I really don't want to see upton dealt I think we're selling low after his sub par season. Even assuming that he won't re sign after this contract why not trot him out there this season, if he has another year like he did in 2011 we can ask for twice what we can this year.

Also, I don't know much about Olt, how does he project as a prospect? Are we talking perennial all star?

IF he has a good first half he will probably net a pretty good package right before the deadline.

Are we even talking .275 ave 25 to 30 hr type guy in Olt?

Not too shabby thus far:

The Texas Rangers announced today that Mike Olt has been named the Tom Grieve minor league player of the year. Olt joins Cody Buckel (Nolan Ryan pitcher of the year), Engel Beltre (defender of the year) and Ben Rowen (reliever of the year) as award winners. Each will get their awards at the Dr Pepper Awards Show next Friday (Jan. 11) at the Arlington Convention Center.

Olt: Earned the organization’s top minor league award despite spending only four months at Frisco (AA)…batted .282 with 17 doubles, 28 homers, and 82 RBI in just 95 games for the RoughRiders…led the Texas League in homers and slugging (.579) and ranked 4th in RBI, all highs in the organization…was a 1st team selection at 3B on Baseball America’s Minor League All-Star Team…was the Rangers Minor League Player of the Month for both May and June …led all Double-A players in homers at the time of promotion to Texas on August 2 where he spent the rest of the season…was selected by Texas as a supplemental pick in the 1st round of the 2010 1st Year Player Draft.

Problem is that we have a similar 3B prospect in Matt Davidson that is close to MLB ready, so a package with Olt as the centerpiece doesn't make much sense.

Olt, Cody Buckel and Luis Sardinas for Upton?

Did you get that from somewhere or is that would you would want? Read somewhere that it could be Olt, Martin Perez (their top pitching prospect) plus another piece but its pure speculation.

Another rumor I saw was ARZ was requesting a package from BAL that included one of Dylan Bundy (whom ARZ should have taken instead of Bauer), Kevin Gausman or Manny Machado to which BAL balked.

ARZ needs to trade him now or keep him. If they keep putting him on and taking him off the market they will lower his value because teams will think ARZ is getting desperate to move him.

Just out loud speculation on my end.

Yeah, I'm not surprised Baltimore shot that down. They are going to have to be blown away to trade Bundy, or Machado; and Gausman is working his way to that level.

Team I keep hearing linked as a most likely trade suitor for Justin is Atlanta at this point.

Agreed. It's time that Arizona gets the better end of the deal. We keep getting screwed. It's our turn to screw someone now.

Unfortuantely at this point teams will just sit back and wait because they know ARZ is desperately trying to trade him. Towers has overplayed his hand and Upton's value is dropping because teams know he isn't going to re-sign with ARZ in 2 years. Why give up the farm when TEX/NYY/ATL will have money to sign him and not give up anything?

I guess if they can make a move that makes sense they will. Otherwise they can wait till the trade deadline. Contending teams are more likely to give up some better prospects then.

We can also determine if we're a potential real factor for the division by then.

I hope they think the way you do but ARZ reeks of desperation now and I fear they do not want to go into the season with the Upton drama. Teams are circling like blood thirsty sharks and Towers might get a little jumpy on the trigger.

A middle-of-the-lineup hitter whose only good stat was being driven in. One who showboats in the outfield and who has been dissed by his Managing General Partner for being a disappointment. And whose best friend has been traded away.

What would we lose that we couldn't replace? Especially with the crowded outfield we now have.

I would rather see LH hitter Jason Kubel stay as our "power" guy and Upton go.

They are back. Reports are Diamondbacks considering Braves offer. Can't wait to get another SS prospect and a SP prospect that is probably worse than Bauer was.

Julio Teheran and Andrelton Simmons reportedly are the cornerpieces of Atlanta's offer.

Im a Braves fan and would be pissed if the braves did this deal simmons can be our SS for the next 10 years and Teheran is one of the best prospects in all of baseball. If you guys get these two players I would say you easily won this deal.
