I would do that deal with Atlanta. Teheran is the same age or younger I believe than Bauer, and isnt the head case Bauer is, throws just as hard. Simmons is arguably better than Didi. Not sure if you move one to 2b, and then put Hill to 3b.
Out of curiosity, where did you hear this? Your 'source' on the Mariners package was way off.
Blocking the deal.
From what I'm hearing, the offer was "substantial" and included Dustin Ackley, Taijuan Walker and Nick Franklin, however, Upton has Seattle on his "no-trade" list.
Damn. That would have been a MAJOR haul for AZ too.

Obviously Simmons is better but if we get him, what a complete failure of a trade the Bauer for Didi was.
Analyzing the Bauer deal based purely on his rank as a prospect is flawed. They obviously traded him because they think he is too big a head case to work for the team.
If it turns out they are correct, it was a good deal. If they're wrong then they got robbed. Only time will tell. Personally I can't stand head case players. I'll take a team full of Aaron Hill's over a bunch of high potential headcase Bauer/Upton types any day.
Per Buster Olney, the Braves will not give up Simmons.

I am not excited about moving him for another pitching prospect.

Disagree. Teheran is not a top prospect. I would rather have Bauer. Towers has no clue what he is doing with this franchise. He is doing a worse job than Byrnes. If this trade happens, it will have the same results as the Schilling trade to Boston.
Agreed. Towers is starting to remind me of that guy in your fantasy league that makes deals for the sake of making deals. The result is typically a roster that is worse than what it was to begin with.
Not sure why we want more SP prospects considering we have a lot of young, good caliber depth at that position.
Latest:
The Braves don't want to trade Teheran and Simmons in this deal and think the market for Upton has shrunk enough to where they feel they can do so without giving both.
Reportedly, KT is high on Teheran. Atlanta is countering with an offer involving Teheran, Nick Ahmed and Evan Gattis. Won't be enough fot KT to pull the trigger in my opinion but some of these names could be part of a bigger package with Teheran being the primary piece.
You can never have too many elite pitching prospects because very few of them actually turn into elite major league pitchers.

These two points form the situation which has to be faced. Kendrick gave up on Upton publicly, who could have been great, but was not progressing in that direction. Right or wrong, it has gone too far to head off a divorce.Towers has forced his hand, he has ruined his relationship with Upton even if this is just a business. Emotions are still involved and I don't think they can be fixed. Best case we get a good deal but lose out on a star who could have been the greatest Diamondback of all time.
