I am getting sound bites together and we will post them on azcardinals.com soon.

I'll post them in another thread when they are active.

I did a little research and it appears Berry is a single man with no kids..

He does have a dog though. A miniature poodle. Maybe it means a lot to him?/?:D

That would be to impressive to a FA. So that means the Cardinals would in no way think of such a tactic!

Cards Make an Offer to Berry

The Arizona Cardinals entertained two free agents on Friday, March 5. Defensive end Bert Berry and wide receiver/return specialist Reggie Swinton visited with the coaches and front office.

Berry, a six-year NFL vet of the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, has been made an offer by the Cardinals.

“Arizona has made a very strong offer to me and one that my agent and I are very pleased with,” offered Berry. “I really feel that me going home today is not me saying ‘no,’ or not even ‘I’ll think about it,' but just to be sure. All things are positive here and I just want to go and talk about it with my family.”

Berry is weighing offers from the Broncos, the Cowboys, and now the Cardinals.

When asked what excited him about the Cardinals he responded, “The freshness of it, the opportunity to play for Coach Green. I think his reputation proceeds him. He’s done a great job over the years of establishing a winning way and just him being here gives the Arizona Cardinals a lot of credibility.”

The Cardinals are looking for a credible pass rusher and Berry did just that in Denver last year, recording a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2003 to lead the Broncos. In comparison, the Cardinals leading defensive pass rusher last year was Dennis Johnson with 3 and Kyle Vanden Bosch the year before with 4.

“The things they want to do from a defensive standpoint with me in it, it definitely gives me an opportunity to maximize my skills and go get the quarterback,” said Berry. “They said they have a need for a pass rusher and I feel that I am a pass rusher so we both have a need for each other.”

Berry likened free agency to college recruiting. With two letter of intents from Notre Dame and Penn State sitting on the table, he decided to sleep on it and go with the team he woke up thinking about in the morning.

Berry may not have his answer first thing tomorrow morning, but he did say he intended to deliver an answer to the Cardinals by 3 p.m. on Saturday.

"I will not drag this out any further than that," he said. "I feel it is only fair especially to Arizona who has made a very favorable offer and one that shows they have a genuine interest and they are serious about what they are trying to do here."

Swinton declined to talk to the media during his visit.

The Cards will continue their free agency search by hosting Tampa’s quarterback Shaun King on Saturday.

King, drafted out of Tulane in the second round of 1999 by the Bucs, was forced into action as a rookie in week 11 and led the Bucs to a 4-1 record while completing 61 percent of his passes. He became one of six rookie quarterbacks to start a playoff game since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger and one of just two rookies to win a playoff contest.

King guided the Bucs to 14 wins over the 1999 and 2000 regular seasons before becoming a backup to quarterback Brad Johnson. He has completed 353 of 632 passes for 3,934 yards and 25 touchdowns.

If this guy is true to his word, I think we have a good shot.

It appears we made a very nice offer to him; he only mentioned it about 3 or 4 times.

"Oh, by the way, did I mention they want to pay the everloving crap out of me?"

From his reaction, it sounds like we offered a lot more than Dallas.

Some pretty promising quotes here by Berry. Maybe he will be back.

As an executive recruiter, interpreting between the lines on the comments from his agent would lead me to believe that our chances are not great.

We are up against his current employer who will likely match whatever we offered at the least and I would guess would sweeten it to make Berry feel that his foray into the FA market was worth it.

And then there is the other suitor......Parcells and the Dallas Cowboy's. Remember, he's from Texas and has grown up with a star on his a$$. I've seen this in the conduct of my practice all the time.....we are in third place, accept it guys. This chances are that this deal happening is low!

I haven't seen him play much but he sure sounds like he would be able to come in and help rush the passer. How old is this kid?

You forgot to mention that we are up against 2 playoff caliber teams. The football atmosphere in Denver is FANATIC!

This is interesting too...but until he officially signs, I am going to try and remain calm:

Cards make offer to Berry
By Darren Urban, Tribune
The Cardinals made a free-agent contract offer to defensive end Bert Berry Friday, but Berry wants to consult with his wife back in Denver before making a decision Saturday.
Specifics of the deal were unavailable, but Berry, who had 11.5 sacks last season for the Broncos, was happy with the numbers.

“There’s just a good feeling,” Berry said of the Cardinals. “I have an idea what I want to do.”

The Cards need Berry to say yes, after two other defensive end targets signed elsewhere. Grant Wistrom went to Seattle, while Eric Hicks re-signed in Kansas City.

Berry said he also has gotten an offer from Dallas, and Denver wants to re-sign him.

Now who could argue with that!

At least we have a deadline to look forward to.

The Bolded sentence sure sounds promising. Hopefully his idea of what he wants to do is live in beautiful Arizona! Can someone beat him to Denver and threaten his wife? :)

Shanahan was quoted yesterday to say he believes Berry will resign with Denver, but wnated to test the market before deciding.... sounds like we are just setting his asking price.

Yeah, but we are going to be forced to over pay the guy because of a dried up market.

Not to be a darksider, but Berry did well in Denver. You know who else did on that DLine? Mario Fatafehi. Time will tell if he's a product of Denver's scheme/supporting cast or he is actually a capable speed rusher.
