Very unlikely......he would have signed on the spot if we presented him with an offer that was "too good to pass up".

That's what agents are for.......to advise their client's that....hey dude, NOONE WILL TOUCH THIS OFFER BABY.....DO IT!

If the offer was drop dead gorgeous and he bought in to Green's/the Arizona story, he'd be signed, sealed and delivered.....but of course that is in the world of "traditional trade and commerce"......applying time tested theory into the world of sports is not my core area of competency!

So are you saying there is a chance that our proposal is not as good as Denver then?

What I meant was that there could be a possibility that Fatafehi and Berry's success in Denver could be a product of Denver's scheme or its surrounding cast as opposed to their individual talent. I really have no idea though becaqsue I haven't seen Berry play that much. Hopefully Newhouse/Graves has watched the film and has made the decision that Berry will be a legit pass-rusher outside of Denver. I don't want to end up paying big money to a player who's only as good as his surrounding cast (ex. Chidi Ahonatu/Jason Sehorn).

Not true, don't you remember the rule of thumb from Vikesfan, if a guy gets double digit sacks one place, he'll do it for you too, unless he's old and on the decline. So he's guaranteeing us double digit sacks from Berry.

Based totally on a guess, I suspect he'll stay with Denver, but maybe I'm just back to being a pessimist.

Russ you're more in tune with Denver than I am. Is this guy legit or is he a product of his system?

I am sure this will be somewhat controversial but here goes.

I have been mulling over this offer to Berry and I placed odds on where he signs in my mind. Here is how I see the odds:

Denver 50%
Dallas 30%
Arizona 20%

Here is why:

Denver did a very smart thing from a tactical standpoint. They made Berry an offer (likely not an insulting one) and all they asked as he was out and about was a final call. They allowed Dallas and AZ to set the market for him that way they can either say he is being overpaid from what they can ultimately do or match an offer. If all things are basically equal, my guess is he would pick DEN since he is settled there already, it is his family's comfort zone and let's be honest, the Broncos are a team that has consistently done fairly well. Finally, he had 11.5 sacks last year. I doubt seriously DEN is going to let him go without a fight.

Dallas is a slight favorite over AZ for 2 reasons in my mind. First, Berrty made comments that Russ had posted about his near giddiness at the thought of "Playing with the star on his helmet". Not matter our feeling for DAL, the Cowboys still have something of a reputation and I don't think Green trumps PArcells. Second, he is from Houston so he would be close to his extended family likely and that could become a serious drawing point that AZ cannot match.

AZ is somewhat the long shot here. I think the Cards have to overcome some things in Berry's mind presented above to stay in the race. I think the best way for them to get him is if they just flat out knocked his socks off contract wise and they have really separated them from the other 2. I think there is still a stigma regarding the Cards for FA but this may be the first steo in reasing that stigma.

Two potential wildcards: Will Berry call or get a call from Jake? I know we joked a bit about it on this thread but this is a very real possibility. What effect would that phone call have if it is made?

Second, I wonder what, if any, his relationship with Portis was. I doubt it would steer him one way or another on it;'s own but if he hated Portis maybe DEN is suddenly looking good again. If he was good buddies with Portis, maybe that will have pissed him off a bit at Shanahan.

I think it was a tactical mistake letting him on the plane however it was a mistake the Cards had very little control over. My guess is, since he did go back to DEN the offer made by the Cards was good but not "knocked my socks off good" otehrwise he may have been more inclined to sign it after phoning his family and letting them know.

I hope like hell the cards offer will be able to scale the speedbumps I think are in front of us and he signs here. I want a freaking pass rush and I think he presents a good opportunity to get that.

NO idea, I asked that on their board and got a mixed response, too small to play everydown, can rush the passer, seem to feel he wants to stay.

I suspect he would help us but as a situational pass rusher, which is fine if we are actually going to have those situations this year.

It sounds to me like we will get Berry. He seems to like the offer. He will let Denver and Dallas know of course what it was and see if they will match it. I think the Cards will have their first big free agent signing in Berry after neither team will match the offer. That's my best guess.

Why doesn't we use possion pills and get the guys we want? We have the cap space if we keep letting them go we will not get anybody in here.

Because they only work IF the guy signs the deal.

I guarantee you if the Cards offer Berry a bigger bonus then Denv and Dal he will be here.

Hey Berry haters Parcells Shanahan and Green all want him - maybe he isn't that bad after all if these 3 guys want him -and Vikesfan ;)
I guess I am not the only guy who thinks he can get around 10 sacks. He might get 9 10 11 who knows the exact number but it will be around there it won't be 1 or 5.

Interesting to note he mentioned DG. I think he can be used just like Moss and Culpepper were used. But at the end of the day if the Cards give him more he will come here. He just has to take his wife into it ;)

I wonder what their reactions are now. I heard that Berry guy is pretty good :D
