Not saying this is why we lost at all, but it's noticably louder on tv when the roof is closed vs when it's open. I can't even hear the commentators when it's closed because you guys are so loud. When it's open, all the noise escapes out the roof. You guys were loud, but when the roof is closed, it's a lot louder in there, and I think more intimidating to the opposing team.

There is no difference. Keep it open. Football was meant to be played outside.

I have to agree. I thought the noise was night and day from the last game.

dude, it was what, 74 degrees? That's not outdoor football weather. If it was a winter climate with snow I'd agree, but that's practically the same as having the roof closed with a/c. And it does make a difference with crowd noise.

Makes no difference in crowd noise.

Douchebags stay sitting down when the defense is on the field with the roof open or closed.

One day a few decades from now, fans will learn that they should get loud on our defensive plays from first through fourth down, no matter WHAT quarter it is. Screw the clapping is loud idiots...use your hands, your voices, bang bottles against your seats...whatever.

A stop on 2nd and 5 in the 2nd quarter may be as important as a stop on 4th and 1 in the fourth. GET LOUD AND DON'T FLIPPING TURTLE!!!!

It makes a noticeable difference on TV. That game you guys(all fans) were just duds then if the roof is no excuse.

that place may have sold the tickets out, but it wasn't a capacity crowd, attendance wise. The East side upper deck had a lot of open seats disperesed throughout it. Probably because of the holiday weekend and people being out of town.

The holiday weekend probably had a lot to do with it. It made it cost prohibitive for me to get to the game and I couldn't sell or even give my tickets away.

The 12th man was virtually non existant for this game.

Whether it was one thing or a combination of things I don't know.

But the roof wasn't opened which took away some volume and made it way to cold last night.

I noticed the empty spaces and the crowd that was there acted as if they had never been to a game before.

I don't if they were just cold, newbies, or worse niner fans in plainclothes because they didn't want to admit being niner fans but the fan support just wasn't there last night. IMHO

I almost posted a thread saying that the crowd did their job, and did it well yesterday. I thought we were VERY loud, and was shocked San Fran didn't have a single false start (pissed me off, actually).

If it sounded weaker on tv (as Shane said), then I say close the roof. IMO, it's not "outside" when it's open, anyway. It's inside w/the window open.

I thought the crowd did a good job. Probably 90% of the crowd stayed until the bitter end. I agree that the roof open probably cut the crowd noise in half.

I cant watch the game on TV so I dont know what the crowd noise was like and reguardless of it there is no way we should have lost the game, but there is no excuse for the away team not to have atleast one false start. No excuse.

who cares about noise, its a small difference. The stadium is leaps and bounds better with the roof open, I sit right by the field and constantly felt strong breezes going through the building. Beatiful day, horrible team.

I disagree 100%. Why do you think it is called home field advantage? This isn't baseball, where every field is unique and teams hold a real advantage based upon that. It is not a coincidence that teams win more at home than away. The crowd plays a HUGE role in the game. Do you remember the playoff game against the Vikes?

They got used! I talked Steve into going. Still couldn't find anyone to use the third one though.

the crowd was more than loud enough, if the team cant win with that it aint our problem. The stadium is nowhere near as cool with the roof closed. It got so loud at points it sounded louder than it has ever been, I see no reason to keep the roof closed. The team gave it away, it had nothing to do with the crowd.

Anyone complaining about it being cold in the stadium needs a kick in the nuts.

Bull. That crowd yesterday was weak. It was a HUGELY noticeable difference in how loud it was. So either it was the people in the stadium or it was the roof.

That stadium is every bit as cool with the roof closed than it is open. If you can make the place louder and more of a hostile environment with a closed roof then you close the roof.

Dont you find it the slightest bit odd that SF is the only team to come into our house and not get a single flase start related to noise?

Was the crowd the "loudest" of the season? Nope... But it was plenty loud. Certainly loud enough and easily more than in the acceptable range for sure!
If there was any sort of let-down in crowd noise or enthusiasm, I would tend to blame that on:

1.) The potential of many fans being out of town for the holiday.
2.) The game itself, where we played so badly right from the start... I think for the most part, the crowd was purely stunned that we let this putrid team (9ers), make a game of it right from the start...

Good job. I hate to think we're getting back to the days when you couldn't give tickets away.

the crowd was weak but in the 4th quarter the team was pointing at the endzone making people yell and for that play it was insanely loud. any missing crowd noise is the crowds fault, not the roof. Air conditioning and fake lighting is not as cool as real fresh air and sunlight, ill never agree with you there.

The team sucked yesterday, they lost, not the roof and the noise.

Seattle is 10x louder than we are and they have NO ROOF. the open roof does not matter.

Thats because as a whole Seattle has way better/more fans that we do. If we had 80,000 Abombs or Donalds there, the roof would not matter, but seeing the games on TV, I can say that many Cardinal fans are unpassionate pansies who dont even stand up on 3rd down. For that reason, we need the roof closed so that Abomb and Donalds' voices stay inside and dont drift out to the desert.
