We agree, it's unlikely the Suns add Rondo. This team has some nice chemistry going.

Yeah I could see him being the only "name" point guard left but I can't see Jones going down that path. He's talked about the importance of maturity and chemistry, Rondo doesn't pass the chemistry test from what I know of him.

With JJ running things I just don't see him bringing in players that are chemistry risks like Rondo.
IT seems more likely than Rondo. I'm pretty sure he signed with Denver after Rondo signed in LA last offseason. I think he was the last PG with any name value that signed anywhere.
If the choice ends up being IT or Rondo then I would sign IT and call it a day. I liked Rondo back when he was in Boston but he's let his ego run wild ever since he was sent out of Boston. He was a good role player there but he thought he was a star and did more for that team than he really did. I believe he still thinks he's a star to a certain extent also and it doesn't seem like he's learned that no one else thinks he is. He'll probably play his way out of the league next year. I can't see him lasting more than 1 more full season.

I would hope if those are the choices then we go with neither. Both would disrupt team chemistry and both are a poor fit next to Booker as well.

I think he was a little more important in Boston than you're giving him credit for. I don't know that "ego" is the word that I'd use but whatever you want to call it, he had that in spades in Boston too and it caused a lot of problems (just like it did at Kentucky). As for him no longer being a star, I think it's in large part due to the changes in the game. He's not a good shooter and he is no longer allowed to play defense the way he used to (when he was arguably the best perimeter defender in the game). Change the rules back and he'd probably still be a pretty good point guard. But I really hope that never happens.

Holiday is the player they should go after. He is a point guard version of a weird Oubre/ Bridges combo.
If they can't get him, then go after cheaper options like Collison or even Rubio, and use Johnson as the third guard.

However, forget the "if they can't get him" talk. James Jones needs to bring back the ghost of Colangelo and MAKE it happen. Short of trading Book/Ayton, go get 'em. Jrue is the PERFECT compliment to Book. He's a Defensive dynamo. He distributes well and can handle the ball. Plus, he's in his prime. Yes, we'd have to give up 2 of our 4 SFs (probably JJ and Warren) and our 2019 #1 (depending on it's location) plus some, but it's worth it. Our draft picks are essentially useless for the next few years (barring a #1 showing again).
Then we sign a middle of the line veteran PF who has a little nasty to him and disinterested in having the ball in his hands (there seem to be a good batch of those in FA this year). Thaddeus Young isn't going to blow anyone's socks off offensively, but what he does on D and everywhere in between would really help this team. Plus he can hit the 3. He would compliment Ayton who is more finesse. Plus, we could really use some veteran leadership.
Adding Jrue/Young to Book/Ayton and Oubre/Bridges would really solidify our team. We'd have crazy good talent, veteran leadership, defensive presence, and lose the McD curse of having too many players at one position.

If we didn't bring him before this season, there is no way we bring him in before next season. Not an option.

Depends how it's viewed. Tyler's salary is useful as an expiring for teams looking to get out of long term contracts, or just to match up salaries for trades. It is a problem if the Suns want to use capspace, but they have the option of stretching and waiving to make it less of a problem.

Suns are fortunate to have Tyler, not so much stuck IMO. But yeah, his salary makes it a challenge to move him without paying a price. I think he's a solid role player and while he's probably making double what he's worth, it's just for next year. Since we're going nowhere that soon, I don't see a problem with overpaying him for a season.
To me, "stuck" is where we are with Josh Jackson. He has little trade value. He needs playing time to fix his problems. But playing time for him causes problems for the team if their goal is to win (despite flashes of excellence from him). We could just release or package him but I hate parting ways with someone whose potential so greatly dwarfs his current trade value.
