Kind of a confusing post. In the first part, you're saying Oubre might be playing for a contract and will let up once he's paid. In the second part, you want to give him a long term contract.
That's strange. He's still on his rookie contract, right? How can they say he only plays well when fighting for time or a contract? Is he really in a fight for time? I'd say he's earned his time and he's earned it for awhile. Odd that people say that.

Sorry post wasn't clear. There were people questioning on those forums if he had the drive if he wasn't earning a new contract or playing for time. The implication was that his effort wasn't there in college? I have no clue what they were talking about since I never followed him ever. I didn't even know who he was until the Sun's signed him.

What I was specifically saying is that OTHERS were indicating that. Not me. From what I have seen, I like what I see and I think we should try and keep him.

I think it means in prior years with the wiz he had to fight for court time, now he’s playing for a contract.

For what it’s worth, I’m not buying it. Guys that routinely get under other players skin typically do so because they’re fighters and constantly harassing. I think oubre is that type of guy.

Agreed... I think Oubre is far more athletic than Bridges. But I agree that Bridges is a must-have for this team going forward. And agree on Johnson. The Suns desperately need a legit, veteran PG. They won't be able to secure that guy with Johnson and his crazy salary still hanging over the team...

Would you rather have Johnson at his crazy salary or another year of Ryan Anderson at his crazy salary.

Oh, don't get me wrong. The value we have in TJ versus Anderson is night & day! I really, really like TJ, but at $19 Million next year, I just don't know if the team can handle that salary and still go out and get a true, legit, seasoned PG. To be honest though, I'm not even sure what the options will be at PG. We know Russell will be available - maybe... But is he worth more than TJ? They seem to offer two different forms of contribution where TJ is a great defender and Russell seems to have become an above average scorer...
I dunno... should be interesting to see how it all unfolds...

But having neither was not a choice. It was basically one or the other.

Based on what we know right now Booker, Ayton, Oubre and Bridges are the Suns top players going forward.

Then the Suns need to add a point guard. I could accept less than a big name point guard if the Suns keep Johnson.

I'd like to keep Holmes and Jackson.

Totally agree with you, they are the corp that you build around. Gotta to do what ever you need to keep them. Can't afford to loose Oubre.

The things I heard from WAS fans when he was traded were that he will always give you effort, but his decision making was his biggest knock. Unless we can somehow assume that his improved decision making is somehow only tied to him trying to get a big contract than I think we can assume that getting paid won't change the player that he is.

Yeah I read a couple of Wizards forums after the trade and most fans applauded his intensity. The most common concern I heard was that they were going to have to make a huge financial commitment to keep him. With his questionable decision making and the Wall contract, many posters seemed to think it was just too risky. Almost to a person though they were reluctant to let him go.

I knew he was a high energy player but I didn’t think his defense would be as good as it’s been.

Only concern I’ve had with Oubre is his passing and 3pt shooting. He doesn’t have to be a playmaker but I think he can get better at making simple passes. His 3pt shooting at 32% leaves a lot to be desired as well.

Overall he’s been pretty good for the Suns and better than Jackson. I’d match offers for him unless he gets something outrageous (which i doubt).

Small sample, but he has been better at the three ball since joining the starting line-up (35% on 5.7 attempts per game). I will be curious to see how that plays out for the rest of the season, but if he keeps that up than I think that is a concern that we can probably put to bed.

Radio yesterday was saying to expect a huge contract offer.

Yep, there will be way more cap space out there than there are A list stars. A few teams are gonna have big money to spend on second tier guys like Oubre.

Gambo said that Warren and Jackson probably gone. Booker and Oubre are apparently really tight. Bridges doesn't need the ball like Warren and Jackson do.

So Ayton, Oubre, Booker the core.

Bet anything they draft a PF with the 4th pick sign Rondo and call it a day.

yeah... they gotta move Warren... even for very little return just so they can get Oubre signed to a likely big deal. Getting rid of Warren's salary will ease the cap problems a little if Oubre makes mucho dinero.

I still wouldn't move Josh Jackson at this point though.

I think I'd take that bet. I can't see us bringing Rondo in and I'm not at all sure we'd be on his list either.
