Questions about 'Q'


NFL.com reported Tuesday night that receiver Anquan Boldin met with coach Ken Whisenhunt recently and asked to be traded. I spoke with Whisenhunt, and GM Rod Graves on Tuesday evening. At least twice in that conversation, Whisenhunt said "Anquan has not requested a trade. We are not aware of that."

The Cardinals said in my story in The Republic this morning that it's Boldin's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who has broached the idea of trading Boldin. The Cardinals said no and noted that it's not a new tactic from Rosenhaus, whose clients include Bengals receiver Chad Johnson and Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey. Both are the subject of trade rumors.

The Cardinals make the point that they made an offer to Boldin late in 2007 that eventually would have made him one of the five highest paid receivers in the NFL.

Rosenhaus hasn't returned phone calls for weeks, but my sense is that offer didn't pay Boldin enough money up front. That's what is most important in the NFL.

The Cardinals remain hopeful they can get a deal done with Boldin. They point out that they extended his rookie contract after only two years and they were willing to extend this deal even though it runs through three more seasons.

Trading Boldin is not a decision they want to make, but they could reach that point over the next year if a new contract agreement isn't reached.

There is no more trusted impartial source on the Cardinals than Kent Somers IMO. I won't hold my breath waiting for Shefter's retraction, but his buddy Rosenhaus led him down the garden path on this one.

Now can we get back to who the Rams will pick at #2 overall?

He was probably just spouting off on Schefter's report, with the angle that he knew Philly was one of the teams that inquired about Boldin.

There is a huge difference between the agent and the player requesting a trade. Besides, I wouldn't be all that worried IF Boldin had requested a trade, which he HAS NOT.

If the agent asks for a trade doesnt mean that Boldin by extention asks for a trade. The agent works for the player dont they? Its just semantics to me. So if his agent asked the cards if he could look for a trade then Boldin did as well. Boldin pays this guy to do the dirty work and allows him to do it.

But I will say there is a big difference in stating that they "demanded a trade" and "they asked for permission". Asking for permission is far, far, far, less threatening then the original rumored story.

But they did leave this whole story very open ended though,

I don't think anyone is out of line with the all the news being thrown out there. Countless sources saying that Boldin walked into Whiz's office and asked for a trade.

He is our face of the franchise, and a fan favorite. You should expect some people to be upset.

What Joe says is dead on. I am the most ardent Q supporter around. But I am also not blind ot the fact that an agent doesnt go to the organization requesting a trade on his own. He MOST CERTAINLY inquires with the client he represents before making such a move. There is no doubt in my mind that Boldin gave him the go ahead. So by extension it is Q IMHO. SO it isnt much ado about nothing. But it also isnt DEMANDING either.

That really doesnt matter. He is Q's agent. You cant tell me or convince me that if he approaches the organization with a trade demand or "request" it isnt at the blessing of the player.

In my mind, once the player is directly asking for a trade, rather than letting his agent do the work, it's moved from "business" to "personal". Right now, what I see is just business.
