Heck, look at what Edmonds did last season...

Edmonds: 60 attempts for 303 yards and 4 TD's with a 5.1 AVG.

Really? How about last season? Head to head? This league is about what you've done lately. 2019 stats for both would be a good comparison, right? I'm sure Gordon blew Drake out of the water, right? Let's see:

Gordon: 162 attempts for 612 yards and 8 TD's with a 3.8 AVG.

Drake: 170 attempts for 817 yards and 8 TD's with a 4.8 AVG.
So you're telling me that with two full games less, no Pouncey, barely any Russell Okung all year, missing starting and backup guards and tackles, a legitimately good RB to split time with, and a new Offensive Coordinator, Gordon almost produced as much as Kenyan Drake? Not selling me.

How about Gordon's 63.3 YPG career average to Drake's pathetic 35.1?

Drake had a flash of three better games than Gordon. He's still a never was.

I said I'd be interested in Melvin Gordon and got ripped on. It's tiresome to watch you jump up and down in excitement in every thread like we've been a 10-win team for years running. I'm not blocking anyone, but if you find me tiresome, block me, and stop telling me what to say. I don't want to create any bad blood, but it is what it is. I'm going to call players like I see them - generally how the rest of the NFL sees them.

Do you? Gordon was great in every factor of the game in 2018. It's why he was offered 10 million per. He didn't look very good in 2019. Career wise, he blows Drake out of the water.

No one but Cardinals fans say different.
You can comment on Gordon all you want. In fact I think he’s a good running back. But every damn time you comment on a running back you have to add, “ I don’t like Drake”. My comment is , we know.

All good man. If we re-sign him, I won't harp on him. It's a move we are probably inevitably going to make. If it's a shorter deal, I'll be pretty happy too. Just don't want to sidle us with a bad contract again.

Considering we need two backs, maybe we get another one in the draft and everyone can be happy. :band:

Look Drake has not redesigned the running back position. I have said many times he’s got to play within the boundaries of our cap. Tagging him buys time.

If reality sets in and nobody ends up offering 8-10 mil a year HE will have to make a decision. Play one year for 8 or sign a 3 -4 year deal that guarantees him twice that amount.

I think getting Hopkins lowers his price and actually makes playing here a bit more exciting.

And signing him to an Ekeler type deal I think would be fair especially when you consider he could be cut in year 3 or 4 without demolishing our cap.

Totally agree...signing, or trading for a RB being paid on past production is a BOB move.

What happened to Chase Edmonds? He showed some good promise, then I think he got hurt (right?) then came back and wasn't used...am I correct?

Edmonds is ok, but Drake is far better.

Last year our 3 backs running the ball were basically Bad(David Johnson) Mediocre (Edmonds) and Very Good(Drake)

I think we will draft a back with one of the 4th rounders.

Edmonds will play a big role this year. He is better suited as a change of pace rather than a bell cow.

I believe we will draft a back or bring in a couple of udfa’s.

Wonder if KD would do 4 for 24 like Ekeler did. those extra 2mm per year could prove important. And almost could have bought us Littleton.

I have changed my thought process on this a bit. I would like to see the Cards recind the tag.

Chase Edmonds + a 4th round rookie can do everything that Drake can do for a lot less money.

Go Sign DeAndre Washington for about 1 million per year and roll with Edmonds, Washington, 4th round Rookie (Zach Moss/Eno Benjamin)

If you want to discuss this, come into the Kenyan Drake thread. I don't want to derail people trying to talk about our new DE/DT.

https://www.arizonasportsfans.com/forum/threads/kenyan-drake-gets-the-transition-tag.345398

His 8 game sample size is inclusive of three good games. His yards per game is atrociously low, in the 30s. There are tons of RBs who break off a hot streak and never do anything again, especially when wanting to get paid.

We can discuss there if you want.
Maybe it was simply a hot streak and maybe not, but it doesn't change the simple fact that he was better here than in any stretch in Miami. You can extrapolate the reasons for that any way you like, but it's indisputable that he was better here than he was prior.

Keep Drake and use one of our two rd #4 picks on a RB or possibly use one of the rd 4rs to move up for one in the third round. Covered this year and hopefully in future seasons.

Note to self: ignore Solar7 on this topic. :)

Thanks for jumping threads! I feel bad when I derail too much.

You're right, he's better than he was in Miami. No argument there. What I don't see is him consistently replicating his 3-4 good games, when four of them were still bad, and his history is bad.

I'm not going to be mad about retaining Drake at this point if we did something like moving up to acquire a high-upside 3rd round RB, while not overpaying him.

David Johnson is gone, Drake can stick here and play as a complementary back alongside some other guys. My biggest fear was counting on him as a 200+ carry, 3-down back.

Of course he won't. He would probably go down as the greatest RB of all time if he could replicate those games on a consistent basis. It's not out of the question for him to possibly replicate that 8 game stretch on a consistent basis. A few good to great games, 2 to 3 average games and 2-3 below average games.

I suppose we just disagree about what counts as a good game vs. what are atrocious games. I know fantasy football doesn't count, but over his mid-tenure stretch, he was a bad player. The whole team was, and we played tough teams, but in the NFL, you play tough teams. You can't factor your trust in a guy on powder-puff matchups.

Extrapolate his career out from the Cardinals for 16 games and it's 1286 yards, 16 TDs, and 80.4 YPG.

Take the whole thing, including his success with the Cards, and it's a year of 561 yards, 4 TDs, and 35.1 YPG. Those would be worst in the league.

That's all with an 8 game vs. 62 game sample size. I can't think of a single RB, not even a player, in NFL history whose success emerged after 62 games of this.
