If you haven't listened to the Titans pre-game on Cardinals Underground, you probably shouldn't. Wolf, Urban, and Calvisi are falling all over themselves not to declare this QB competition over, and give people a reason to believe that the coaches should/will choose Kolb to be the starter.

It was completely mystifying to me that they dismiss all the clear evidence that Kolb was bad instead to talk about a lovely completion Kolb made in practice on a 9 route.

Kolb may be done, but it's possible that this coaching staff hasn't gotten the memo yet.

none of this surprises me. They will look for any excuse tomorrow not to give Skelton the job IMO.

I was hearing this stuff on the radio yesterday and it was driving me crazy.

This is like the flip flop of the Leinart/Scud debacle.

Then we had a prima donna weak QB making a lot of money who was putting up better (but not impressive) numbers than the erratic backup challenger, and the Scud missle received more series in preseason and somehow won the job, going on to abject failure.

Now we have a skittish, scared QB making a lot of money putting up worse numbers (and looking even more horrible than his stats) fighting a confident, calm and young backup who knows the system and has produced better stats in fewer series though still has a lot of growing pains to work on...and the skuttle is that the skittish scared guy is winning the job.

They may have gotten the memo, problem is they can't read.

If you haven't heard, and you have the stomach for it, you should listen. They were expecting Whis to perhaps rotate the quarterbacks in and out, both in the first half and the second. I have no idea why anyone would do that; it sounds like a recipe for disaster, especially in a passing offense the requires rhythm.

All smoke, there is no way Kolb starts. If so, they might need riot police at U of P for game one.

You know, Skelton gets two first-half series, then Kolb comes in. Kolb gets two second-half series, then Skelton comes in to finish out the third quarter. Sounds like a totally good idea, right?

That's the kind of consistency and decisiveness that a team wants to see from their coaching staff in the third preseason game (fourth, but you get it).

oh... i get it alright. seems like a perfect plan to continue to say they just didn't see enough snaps from Skelton to make him the starter.

i mean... really? they've seen an entire season from these guys, an entire off-season and three pre-season games and they're still at this point? that makes me sad. someone on another thread said they're just doing this for the continued PR, but the PR at this point isn't good. It only makes them look clueless.

not to mention, if a guy is your starter AND you're basically starting a new OL, don't you want that offense to get as many reps together as possible before the season starts?

The PR argument makes no sense to me. Whis doesn't care what this out-of-state game gets for ratings. It certainly doesn't help the offensive line get used to one guy's cadence or movement in the pocket.

Well ownership probably wants to give Kolb every single opportunity before they flush 20 million dollars down the toilet.

My feeling is that Whis is putting on a dog and pony show before he says "Look we gave Kolb every chance..."

Well stated! We all know the Bidwills IMO will want to see there $ be "well spent" Whis is just letting Kolb dig his hole even deeper to the point where he can say "look I had no choice"

Listening to it now. Wolf all but said that on the safety the WR's completely ran the wrong routes as many as 2 WR's. Would kinda blow the Kolb should know where his WR's are at all times out of the water. Could be team speak to cover for Kolb. But either way food for thought.

The only one oogling over that pass from Kolb in practice was Calvisi. Wolf immediately states that it was practice with no pressure and how Kolb is handling the pressure in games doesnt bode well for him regardless of practice. Way to mis represent.

That is definitely not what they said. They said that there were plays when Kolb was out there where a WR or two may have run the wrong route, and that might have been on the safety play. Those are a couple of important conditional words. Speaking of misrepresentations.

I think it's pretty clear that all three of them are falling all over themselves making excuses for Kolb. When Wolf says "I'm not trying to make excuses", you know what's coming is an excuse.

The silence from the media in the last two press conferences regarding the quarterback battles was deafening. Makes me wonder if they're being told before that Whis will not be answering questions about it.

Completely disagree. Wolf was VERY critical of Kolb and far from falling all over himself to defend Kolb. The only thing any close to what you are saying is Wolf saying didnt think there was any hurry to name the starter. He was VERY critical of Kolb.

We once did something similar to this in the REGULAR SEASON with Matt and Kurt, didn't we? I couldn't have dreamed that.

Ok, but tell me this: was Wolf very critical of Kolb?

Hmmm... But wasn't that a case of the coach subbing out the guy the front office wanted for the guy that he REALLY wanted to play? It was completely weird when it happened, though, for sure.
