This is really great news.

Now there is one spot less to fill out through the draft.

Great news? Naw. Does it help our depth? Yes, probably. I'd sure like to see contract details before I get too excited.

Here is the press release:
Tempe, AZ -- The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has agreed to terms with free agent cornerback Roderick Hood on a five-year contract. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Hood (5-foot-11, 196 pounds) appeared in 10 games last season (five starts) for the Philadelphia Eagles and collected 18 tackles (13 solos) and one sack despite missing six games due to injuries. He appeared in 16 games (six starts) in 2005 and collected career highs with 41 tackles (35 solos) and three interceptions to go along with 38 kickoff returns for 900 yards (23.7 yard avg.).

Originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Eagles in 2003 out of Auburn, Hood has appeared in 56 games with 13 starts in his career collecting 98 tackles (77 solos), five interceptions, four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. The 25-year-old Columbus, Ga., native has also returned 53 kickoffs for 1,236 yards (23.3 yard avg.) and collected 40 special teams tackles during his tenure in Philadelphia.

"Roderick is a bright-eyed guy that seemed very excited to be here. He fits in very well with the organization and I was impressed with him," head coach Ken Whisenhunt said during Hood's visit to Tempe.

Instant nickel corner, and may beat out Green at the #2 spot. Much improves our secondary.

With all the articles saying the Cards don't have much money left, I'm guessing we are probably done with free agency.

I'd like to see us try to re-sign Monty Beisel for cheap if possible. He did a good job in a scab role last year, and I haven't heard much about him visiting other teams.

25 years old, returns kicks. He will create comp between our 2 CB's.

This is a good signing IMO.

We need an OT still. But sofar I think we have over reacted how slow FA started.

At least he is excited to be here .. and appears to have a good attitude ..

I believe this is a good move for CB depth/starter and a possible return man ...

From Hoods myspace page

FS Brian Dawkins on whether Hood is the best 3rd CB in the NFL: "He's doing an excellent job. I can't say [he's the best] in the NFL because I don't really know what's going on on other teams, but for us he's done an excellent job. And that's why we call him '1b.' When he steps on the field you have confidence that he's going to do more than just get the job done, that you can count on him to make plays on the field. And that's what he's doing now."

Dawkins on Hood's ability to step in and get the job done: "He has done an excellent job. Almost from day one he's been making plays in practice. We saw that his rookie year, making plays in practice, making plays on the ball. That's something that will help him in the long run. Knowing that when he's on the field, there is no weak link, period."

CB Sheldon Brown on the ability of Hood: "He could be a starter on any team in this league. He's going to bring a physical mentality to the football field. And he doesn't mind hitting."

Hood on how his style of play is similar to CB Lito Sheppard: "I think we're very similar. We both can run. We both play physical, try to make plays on the ball. I don't think there's too much difference... A lot of times I can see him on film, or a coach can see him on film, and they think it's me, or I think I'm out there."
