Los Angeles Times -
The owners of the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves have begun talks for a trade that would involve sending Kevin Garnett to the Lakers, league sources said Monday.

A multi-team trade discussion is underway involving the Lakers, Indiana, Minnesota and possibly a fourth team, with the Lakers getting Garnett and the Pacers getting Lamar Odom and teenage center Andrew Bynum from the Lakers. Another minor player will likely be added to make the deal work financially.

Jerry Buss and Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor spoke by phone for 20 minutes Friday. Buss reportedly ended the conversation by suggesting that Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak and Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale would continue the discussion Monday.

Kupchak, Buss and Lakers Coach Phil Jackson met on Friday to discuss options based on the assumption they would still have Bryant, The Times has learned. [READ

Yeah, the Lakers have been working this for a while now, assumedly, with Indy really wanting Bynum but the Lakers not wanting to send Bynum AND Lamar for JO. I guess in this one JO and picks would go to Minny?

Incomplete info but at least it isn't just rumor that they are talking...

i dont see how this is going to work

a.) the lakers wouldnt send Bymun for Jermaine earlier
b.) Indiana getting both Odom and Bynum would lead me to believe that Jermaine is being dealt to Minny
c.) how does this "fix" minny. they arent going to be any better next season just by swapping Garnett for Jermaine.

This was just discussed on a local sports talk radio show with (the Lakers Announcer, Mychal Thompson). Everyone still felt the Suns were the leader in this trade and that the Lakers were merely making a call to appease Kobe, and since he and Garnett are friends. They didn’t feel the Lakers were even close to being able to beat the Suns offer.

Since there are three sides to this deal, it is not clear what the Wolves are supposed to get in this deal.

Obviously if the Lakers can get KG for Odom and Bynum, it's a no brainer from their perspective and the Pacers certainly would like Bynum and Odom.

But it is not clear that KG for Jermaine O'Neal from the Wolve perspective makes sense. Perhaps if the Pacers threw in Granger.

Not only that, but Indiana has no picks this year, not even a second rounder. The Lakers have their own first-rounder. Both teams have their own normal picks next year, but Indiana's first-rounder next year might be enticing. They're going to be awful.

If Indiana can do this and unload Murphy's salary, I think they've done in one year what I thought it would take three or four. That was a big gigantic mess they had.

I have a buddy living in LA, and just this morning he gave me a call, and was telling me that a radio host (570) in L.A. was talking to Jack McCaullam, and the host asked him (seriously is what Im told) if Bynum for KG straight up was a fair deal for both teams.. and Jacks answer was "Your kidding right"...

lol, LA Radio hosts have even less of a clue than Arizona Hosts I think...I don't know which host this particular one was, but he said it would make me laugh, and I honestly was in too much shock to laugh.....bynum for KG straight up...:bang:

Interesting that Jerry said he'd give KG an extension....that's a positive sign.

How do multiple trades work with salary involved? You can't match, match, match each team so how does that work?

Oh, and where is Kwame in all this? Is he going to Minny? 9 million expiring K.

I can't see him staying in LA with a three team trade for those kind of salaries...he'd need to be part of the package...

Maybe Kwame to Minny for cap relief. They certainly arent getting any by acquiring JO.

You have to match, match, match, unless one team is under the cap. You still have to take in or give out 125%.

This deal still comes down to T-wolves and Suns. They are both playing chicken with each other in the media right now.

First, the Suns start bringing in lottery players for workouts. This tells the T-wolves that you better make the deal for Marion and Picks before we make it with someone else.

Then, the T-wolves put pressure on the Suns by ratcheting up other bogus trade scenarios with the Lakers to get the Suns to put up Amare.

This really comes down to who will blink first…

Except it is Jerry Buss on the phone with Taylor. Little different than ratcheting up bogus trade scenarios.

Kobe forced the call. The T-wolves took the call, but they’re not really considering the offer… (it’s simply not better than what the Suns are offering) They’re just taking advantage of the leverage it might provide in the middle of a negotiation.

I don't think the Suns will blink in this game. They would probably rather let KG go to LA than send Amare away, the theory being the Lakers are still a year away from being able to acquire enough pieces to put almighty fear into the Suns.

That said, Kobe + KG would be the best two-man team in basketball.

Until the Suns offer Amare, the Lakers offer is better. Nobody wants Marion at his price, and Marion doesn't want to go anywhere.

LOL, there is speculation that the Celts might be the other team.

And someone on Lakersground posted:

We're talking about all of our Laker dreams being realized by Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge and Larry Bird.

Now THAT is funny.

Lakers fans and shills have been putting up KG rumors for the last three years. They're obviously not going to stop now, even though there's no evidence KG would be interested in going there.

Here in reality, an Odom/Bynum/#17 trade has a very similar problem to Marion/Barbosa/Atlanta, which is that the Wolves have no interest in holding on to the big piece (Odom in LA's case). Since the Lakers aren't calling around trying to find a taker for Odom, you can be reasonably certain their talks with Minnesota haven't led anywhere yet.

Odom (Always injured, never lived up to potential) and Bynum (proven nothing kid) is better than Marion (4 time all-star, ultimate team player with no leverage to opt out no matter what you say), KT (expiring contract/excellent defender) and 3 first round draft picks (Rebuild fast)?

Seriously, you’d take the Lakers junk instead? Wait, you’re a Lakers fan?
