From ESPN Insider, I thought you all might enjoy this. I like how he ends with "I still have him as a top-10 pick":

Quarterback Jay Cutler, Vanderbilt (6-4, 230)
He is fast becoming one of the most overhyped players in this draft. Cutler was OK, but not great, at the Senior Bowl, but he's drawing all these rave reviews at the NFL scouting combine. He hasn't done anything at the combine that has wowed me to move him up in the draft.

Cutler hasn't improved his draft position by what he did at the Senior Bowl or combine. He had a good senior season and finished strong. If you like Cutler based on how he finished the season, that's fine, but don't think that he's moved up dramatically based on the Senior Bowl and combine. He's going to go in the top 15 of the first round and might even go in the top five. But what he's done since the season ended doesn't put him up with Matt Leinart or Vince Young. I still have him in the top 10 of the draft, but you shouldn't think he'll be a top-three pick.

I watched him at the combine, and I was as impressed with his performance there as I was when I first heard of his record at Vanderbilt. He missed guys, didn't have superb velocity and just didn't wow me. Like I said before, I liked Clemens.

I didn't think he threw that well from what i saw at the combine either. Of course, every time he moved, i think Mayock had an orgasm. Cutler missed guys and when he was supposed to drop back and immediately release the ball, he would hesitate before letting it go. Two guys who did impress me were Brodie Croyle and Omar Jacobs. I haven't been a fan of Jacobs at all, and he still has that goofy release, but he put alot on the ball and was very accurate.

Not really any hypocrisy from Kiper...he said he'd be top ten, he still does. Just said he's not top three.

It's the idea of Kiper criticizing a guy as over-hyped that cracked me up. Mr. "Darion Conner is the best player in this draft" Kiper knows a thing or two about hyping mediocre players.

So let me get this straight: Cutler wasn't great at the Senior Bowl or at the combine, nor did he ever finish higher than fifth in his own conference in QB rating. Sounds just like the kind of player I want to draft in the Top 10.

Im with you on this one. I think this kid has a great chance to make it in the NFL Strong arm(had more heat then Cutler) Very accurate. And he ran a 4.65 in the 40

Was a Florida Transfer so its not like he came out of nowhere.

I know watching the NFL network does not make you an NFL scout, but i was more impressed by Croyle from Alabama

Croyle. He had a better Senior Bowl and Combine IMOP. He has been very accurate with everything i have seen him throw, and his coach in college has been in the NFL(Mike Shula) I know people talk about his knees and his arm is not the best in the world but when i see the kid throw he looks like he has......It.

You heard it here first.......Croyle will be a better pro then Cutler

Couldn't have said it better.

Out of respect for Mike Mayock and others commenting at the Combine, I had to respect what they said about Cutler's arm, but I couldn't help but note the disconnect between on-air comments like "Wow! Did you see him make that throw on that out pattern?" and then watching what seemed to be a decent but not particularly eye-catching sideline throw.

The one thing I do think Cutler showed was a very quick release, and that's an important element. Perhaps it is this - more than arm-strength - that caused receivers at the Combine to observe that Cutler was the one QB there who you'd better turn your head around on-time because "the ball would be there" if you didn't.

I've been pimping Croyle for a couple of months now. Originally I though the Cardinals could land him in the Third. Now it looks like they might have to use a 2nd on him if they want to take him.

I agree that Croyle will be better than Cutler.

I like Croyle, too. But do you think his knees will hold up in the NFL? I keep thinking of Rex Grossman on the Chicago Bears...

i liked the way croyle threw the ball also. the only bad mark is that he gets injured a lot.

two more qbs impressed me throwing the ball. they are omar jacobs and clemmons. they lookedd like they had great velicoty and accarcy on the ball.

Hi Ed B. - Good to see a post from you again - How's Chi-Card enjoying that World Series Trophy on the Southside? Please say "hi" from a guy who shares in the jubilants of a "Southside" Chicago baseball title!! I may have stated this before but I used to bash on Mel, but honestly he has been about 70-30 in being correct about drafting guys. It just makes you wonder if ESPN, Fox & The Sporting News can effect the draft.??

He always pick a Shock player who he rates very high. This year there is a consensus shock player, so his shocking pick is to NOT pick the consensus shock player. Mel Kiper is devious. :-0

Someone has liked every QB at the combine except the one Green will pick.No one mentioned Bruce Grabkowski so he is probably Our pick in round 6.

I think Gradkowski is gone by the 4th. I like him, too.

PS--there are lots of threads where he's been mentioned as a possibility.
