My problem with this coaching staff is that I think they OVERestimate their ability to develop players.

While I think Whisenhunt has a very good offensive system, it's a tough system to run. I think it's QB friendly, in the sense that a very good QB has a lot of options and can showcase their talents. But its a difficult system to run, and young QBs WILL struggle to run it efficiently.

What is troubling is that it looks like Whisenhunt and his staff think that they can take a lesser player (Max Hall, John Skelton, etc.) and "coach them up". It's the same problem you see with the offensive line, we don't add premier talent, but expect the crap we have their to succeed because of the coaching of Russ Grimm.

What I think this team needs to do is fire Rod Graves and bring in a real talent guru. Take away any personnel power that Whisenhunt and staff have (which I don't think is as much as people like Kerouac think). I think that this would be ideal; Whisenhunt could focus solely on coaching and not trying to turn turds like Max Hall into premier players, and instead would be coaching guys like Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley, and perhaps Aaron Murray and Logan Thomas.

I'll say it again and again, this coaching staff is still to rarely working with good prospects and I look across the league at what other teams like Seattle are doing during the draft and free agency and I can't help but think this team still isn't good enough in player personnel.

Bingo. He was brought in to win games.

Or you could say because Denny Green couldn't win games.

I still like to look at how things worked from DG to CKW. Rackers misses the FG vs Chicago and Denny has his infamous tirade. The season goes down the toilet, Denny gets fired, and we get CKW and eventually an NFC Championship.

Meanwhile Denny becomes almost immortal as his quotes become part of sports lexicon and he makes extra money from Coors for doing a parody of his tirade.

So we all have Neil Rackers to thank for our trip to the Super Bowl. :p

This is a long thread. Mostly about ghosts from the past, Here is something I thought I would share on the QB topic. The problem between Kolb and Skelton now is.

Kolb is Graves man.
Skelton is Whiz supported.

Believe it or not it comes froma very reliable source.

Even if true. Graves has no say in this race. If you said Michael the guy that can actually fire Whiz it might matter. But Graves can't say who's starting and who isn't. That decision rides with Whiz and Whiz alone.

Yep

If Wiz was a puppet like a Cowboys HC is, I highly doubt he would've ever signed an extension here.

That was the first Cardinals game I'd ever watched. It was just after I moved here and everyone I met was telling me, "Cardinals suck". I watched that game and thought, "Maybe they do." Then one Warner to Fitzgerald pass in 2007 made me sit down and watch and think, "All right. Something is happening here." :)

Kolb is soft. Not Chad Pennington" soft. It's even worse that that. I'm talking "Matt Leinart" soft. That should stir the pot...

Didnt Seattle take the most mocked 1st round pick pick in the draft? And I dont get drafting Wilson after signing Flynn. So between their 1st and 3rd round picks they made some very curious decisions.

And as for their free agency work... its been a loooong time since a team acquired TO and then felt good about it in retrospect. I love that they've put that clown in close quarters to their QB controversy, he should do wonders for their young players development...

With the recent "story" about Graves firing Justin Casey, a reported friend of Whisenhunt, there might just be a schism as the article contended.

Like I've stated on numerous occasions, I still contend this team won't fully turn around until the front office does.

We all remember the stories from (I think it was...) Adam Schefter that Whisenhunt desperately wanted Marc Bulger after the team brought in Derek Anderson. This story was later on confirmed by Mike Jurecki.

At the time I felt that this demonstrated that, considering the fact that Bulger was pretty much the only marginal starting prospect out there, that Whisenhunt was obviously not happy that he had Matt Leinart, Anderson, Hall and Skelton to work with at QB.

Schefter reported he was overruled by the front office, which makes me think that:

a) he had no say in the QBs coming in

b) did have say and realized that we were screwed and was pushing the team to make a move that could put a band aid on the situation

The problem is, Graves is part of the Bill Bidwill good ole' boy network and his opinion is for some reason, really trusted over at Cardinals HQ. The only consistency between the early 00's Cardinals that were terrible and today's Cardinals is Graves. With Bill moving out of day-to-day operations, I'm convinced that the ownership is changing, but I'm also convinced that Rod Graves has no business leading a successful football organization.

Ugh. It's a "statement of fact" without any evidence to support it. That's not a fact at all. If you want to believe the word of the guy who makes that statement, it's up to you, but don't pretend that because he says it, it's true.

The fact that you can't offer evidence of the truth of the statement, and rely on shifting timeframes and bland generalities only highlights to everyone that you're nothing but an apologist for a front office and coaching staff who's gone 13-17 in the last two seasons and needs a very strong season in 2012 to not enter 2013 on a very hot seat.

Why wouldn't I believe the guy who made the statement? I'm the guy who made it. Warner replaced Lienart. That's a fact. The reason he replaced Lienart is because he outplayed him. That's a fact. The only thing that's not provable is my statement that Whis plays the best man regardless of salary and that is my opinion. So what's the problem?
