G&A are reporting that 2 of the minor leaguers might be on the 40 man roster and that Dunn will start in right field.

Wow, way to go Byrnes. We needed to take a chance to stay atop the division and this may make us a better team even after losing Hudson for the year.

He is a FA next year correct?

Will he bring in 2 1st rounders like Tex would have if we got him and he left in FA next year?

Not sure how that stuff works.

ESPN just confirmed it. Dunn is batting .233. Not exactly the hitting we need although when he does connect he hits it far.

There's exactly zero front office people in baseball nowadays care about batting average. It's pretty much a dead statistic.

And Reynolds at 2B? That's pretty funny. This probably signals the end of Chad Tracy and rightfully so. He's been awful in recent weeks with both the glove and the bat.

Great move! Addresses a big need in a big way.

Here's my lineup:

2B Ojeda
SS Drew
LF Jackson
RF Dunn
3B Reynolds
C Synder
1B Tracy
CF Young

When Upton comes back you can sit Tracy if Upton's hitting, or keep Justin on the bench if he's not.

Go Snakes!

yeah, your right. Career .290 hitter...he can't cut it in the majors.

Agree in part... Batting average, when it comes to CF and SS positions (and now adays, secondbasemen as well) - along with OBP, is indeed a very important stat. The d-backs suffer greatly because we have a CF who hits .230 and has an OBP of .300!

Dunn, as a rightfielder is perfectly fine hitting .240, as long as he continues to do his thing (40 HR's, 95plus RBI's)...

Nice pickup by Byrnes!

I guess the Dbacks didn't give up very much but color me unimpressed.

Batting average may be a tad archaic these days but .233 is still .233 and he strikes out alot plus he is an extreme liability in the field. To be honest, I am not sure he really makes this team THAT much better. You cannot replace a .300 hitter with a .233 strikeout machine who occasionally hits a few HRs and expect gold at the end of the rainbow.

Look for the Rockies to run on Dunn all series long forcing him to try (unsuccessfully) to make the throw from RF to 3B.

we gave up nothing AND we get 2 1st rd picks when we let him walk in the offseason

Are you forgetting his .901 OPS or his .373 OBP or his 80 walks (2 behind the MLB leader)..."occational" HR; he leads MLB BY FAR in HR/AB.

this is good.... The Dbacks NEEDED a shot in the arm, and I think this will do the trick.... I agree with most on here.. bat him fourth, and put him in RF.....

I am TERRIFIED of messing with CoJack and moving him back to 1B, but that may make the most sense in this situation... But one thing is for sure... it will be interesting to see how Melvin juggles the lineup..

IMO... I think the best scernio is move Conner to 1B, Dunn to LF, keep Romero/Upton in RF, and then try a combination of Ojeda/Tracy (I know I know)/Salazar at 2B...

The order:

Drew
Upton/Romero
Jackson
Dunn
Reynolds
Young
Snyder
Ojeda/Tracy/Salazar
Pitcher

I think the musical chairs would make sense in theory (Move Tracy to third, Reynolds to 2B, Dunn 1B, and keep CoJack in RF) could work, but it makes me nervous because Reynolds hasn't played 2B in over a year....

Nick Piecerco mentioned that one of the other prospects could be Jarrod Parker. I would be SEVERELY pissed if we gave him up for a two month rental.

We are sending Romero back to the minors for what? A slow, lousy-fielding, poor hitting slugger to drive in base runners. Question: what base runners?

We just blew up the team this year, if Romero goes down. He might not. We'll see. I'd dump Burke in a heartbeat.

This sucks.

Yawn.

No I didn't forget his other stats just merely pointed out that he is still a .233 hitter and nobody can expect a HR per game or anything. Fine, dude gets walked...ALOT. The way our offense has been lately, does that really matter?

Is Reynolds going to suddenly see better pitches? I doubt it considering the book on him seems to be he swings and misses alot.

CoJack seems to be able to hit just about any pitch so he will not see anything better.

There is ABSOLULTY NO WAY we gave up Parker....

Unless it is something like if he isn't in the Majors in 4 years, and is still in AA, then he will go, but outside of that.. if we wouldn't give him up for Texieria, no way we give him AND buck for Dunn.. no way...

.

Since I know nothing about compensation, how do they get 2 1st rounders for a two month rent-a-player? What is the exact rule on that?

That seems kind of messed up.

Dunn to the Diamondbacks
3:40 p.m.: KTAR is reporting that the two players to be named are on the 40-man roster, which would rule out Jarrod Parker being a part of the deal.

Forget Dunn's BA for a minute. The guy has a .373 OBP which would put him behind only Conor Jackson in that department in the DBacks lineup. Dunn's BA may only be .233, but you can't ignore the fact that he's still on-base over 37% of the time. The guy knows how to work an AB & sees the most pitches per plate appearance in the NL. Nobody on the DBacks currently has a SLG over .500 so adding Dunn to the lineup automatically makes him the most feared slugger in the lineup. Assuming Byrnes isn't giving up too much with the 2 PTBNLs, this was a great move.

Why would BA be important at some positions and not others? It's an archaic stat, nobody pays attention to it anymore other than novice fans and baseball people who can't let go of the past.

I swear some people would be happier if we got a guy with 30 HR's who batted .270 even if his OBP was .310 despite the fact that said player would produce less runs than Adam Dunn.

I know it might be a nice story and all but Alex Romero is one of the worst starting corner outfielders in baseball. Any move that gets him less AB's is a good thing.

I never agree with azcb34 on anything but I do here. This is another in a long lengthening line of Josh Byrnes dumb moves.
