More often than not I listen to Chris Meyers and Sean Farnum on the way home from work because they tend to talk a lot of football, especially this time of year.

Anyway Kurt Warner was a guest today(Mon.) Absolutely nothing new or interesting until the very last question by Chris Meyers. He asked about Edgerrin James. Well, after going thru the motions in the interview to that point, Kurt's voice showed enthusiasm and emotion and excitement as he talked about Edge. A couple of salient points:
1. He made the point that Edge always finds a way to get positive yards no matter what. Edge very rarely puts the team in a hole is the way Kurt phrased it.
2. Also said "We're going to need Edge in the playoffs."

I was struck by his enthusiasm and if Warner's reaction to the question is any indication, I suspect Edge could somehow inject some energy into this offense and especially the offensive line. Now maybe I'm grasping at straws, but Lord knows this offense needs something, and maybe, just maybe, a well-rested, experienced Edgerrin James can bring something to the table. I hope I'm not ODing on KoolAid.

I don't mean to infer that Kurt was critical of Tim Hightower in any way. He was just very enthusiastic about Edge and it showed in his voice and reaction to the question. I don't know if he has inside information, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Edge as a much bigger part of the game plan come Sunday afternoon.

A couple of other items. Kurt said the offense hasn't been getting it done(duh), and when that happens it places too heavy a burden on the defense. Also they asked about getting relieved by Matt Leinart and Kurt was all for it, said he was appreciative of getting taken out of the game so he didn't have to absorb any further punishment in a lost cause and happy that Matt could get some game reps. But the biggest thing by far I took out of the phone interview was his thotz on Edge.

Thx for reading!!

Good to hear! The team is going to need to find some kind of spark. Maybe Edge can be just that.

Edge's teammates love the guy. Whis should consider starting him just for the emotional boost it would give the rest of the team.

I remember in the Rams game, Edge got a 7 or 8 yard gain. The whole offense looked as excited as if someone else busted off a 30 yard gain. Several players, including Warner, Boldin and Fitz, patted the guy on the head or hugged him. I'm not sure what this guy does to make his teammates respect him so much, but it is apparent they do.

This offense doesn't need 150 yards rushing a game. It doesn't need 60 yard runs either. What we need is just simply be effective. I'll take Edges 3.5 yards per carry right now and I can garauntee this offense would be better for it.

Note. We could probably get that same 3.5 with TH too. But NOTHING will change if we don't change our mindset on running the ball. We need to get out of the 75% range of shotgun formations to keep defenses honest.

There's two sides to that argument though. Whis is probably thinking that if he gives in and plays Edge then the rest of the team will think they can skip practices and make outrageous trade demands and get away with it.

Personally, I think Edge has served his sentence if you will and now is the time to worry about winning football games not some misunderstanding from October. But I can see where Whis is coming from on this as well especially when he's going to be coaching (or thinks he will be coaching) most of the guys long after Edge is released.

When has Edge "skipped practice?"

Well, Whis should listen to both of us then. :D

It that's his concern, the point has been made. In spades. Edge had a decent shot at reaching #10 all time on the rushing list this year, that's gone. If his teammates want to rally around the guy, and he continues to bury him, he could lose them that way too.

Yeah I think his point was made about 7 weeks ago you don't bench a guy for 8 weeks to prove some point, sorry thats just stupid and an NFL coach should know that. Thats the whole point I have been talking about well for a few months now glad to see some common sense is entering the conversation. If Whiz keeps doing crap like this he will lose the team because the players want the best players on the field not on the sideline over some BS that happened 10 weeks ago. Edge should have started Sunday and gotten plenty of carries but he didn't and I don't know at this point if Whiz even gets it? We shall see.

That's because Edge getting anything over 3 yards is a rare occurrence.

That must be it SoCal...geesh some people just don't get it. Glad Kurt gets it he understands Edge doesn't put the offense in a hole like TH does, I said it months ago and its still true. Consistant yardage even if its not big runs makes this offense work much better than a guy getting caught in the backfield all the time (Hightower). For you stat guys go look at the YPC for TH and leave the Rams game out since he surprised a bad team by starting. Since then he has been PATHETIC at best.

Can you stop countering with TH Nash?

I'm on record in several threads stating the running game as a WHOLE is completely broken, Put your James love to rest man.:dcr:

Its not completely broken just not great, it is currently just being severely mishandled imo. You can have your opinion and I can have mine so piss off. A better back makes a difference and imo Edge can at least work for us until the offseason its not like we have much of a choice. We need something or the next two games will be it, no second round for this team unless they figure someway not to be so one dimensional. And I counter with TH because thats the loser KW has been playing for 8 weeks despite pathetic results so its kinda relevant to the conversation, I guess you can't grasp that.

All I can say that the running game was not suffering like this until Edge was benched. The guy averages more than 3 yards behind the same line that TH is mightly struggling to even average 2 yards. I'm not an Edge fan but clearly he is the best back right now for picking up some positive yards on the ground. And I agree by some that he has served his sentence and Whiz needs to handle his ego.

Yeah, James wasn't lighting it up, but given 2 runs you could count on 3rd and 4 or 5 which is very convertable for us.

I'll say it again...Edge will start the playoff game and play most of the snaps..

JJ might start the Seahawk game though, to see if he can spark some life into the run game. If he performs well, he might start the playoff game, but I think that Whis is going to use a rested Edge in that heavily, and if we advance, you'll see even more of Edge...more like the early season strategy.

Ok if I'm not mistaken Q did all of that and more. He called out whiz by name and never missed a game for it. I'm not saying start Edg but if what he said has anything to do with it I would think after what Q did it would really make whiz look like an ***. IMO

Your point has some validity but in all fairness, Anquan has been playing at an all-pro level and Edge has most definitely declined. So with Edge it is a combination of attitude and having what Whis thought was a younger and better option to replace him.

But the reality is that Edge is a reliable veteran who generates positive yards and doesn't put the offense into difficult third and long situations. That's probably the best we can hope for at this point IMO.

With the playoffs experience that E.James brings to the table combined with our current state of our running game- there is no doubt we see Edge out there come playoff time. Edge doesn't have a ring and he's hungry to get one!

Go Cardinals!
