Your last comment is a good one. He likely didn’t have a ton of 2 minute drills in high school either. But still, he’s likely played QB for like 15 years at various levels. The concepts you’re talking about in a two minute drill are kinda common sense type things for anyone who has played football at any position at any level for any minimal length of time.
I don't know much about his High School record and what type of team he was leading there. What I can say is that most athletic QBs win at that level in the 2 min drill with their legs or through broken coverages. The windows just aren't tight because the defenses aren't super knowledgeable.

He had nearly zero in college and if he did have one it was against far inferior talent. When you can take the shot down the middle of the field with no concern for the clock because it will auto stop, you don't have to be as concerned about what routes to attack. And if you have all day, you can wait for those to develop and eventually beat coverage.

I know people on here hate it, but I do go back to it. The Alabama game was a big indicator for me before the draft and has help true since IMO. When Kyler doesn't have a clear talent advantage he really struggles to execute because he doesn't seem to want to pivot when teams take away what he likes to do best and what is easy.

College teams run better 2 minutes offense than we do

How can someone that's supposed to be an offensive mind figure this out?

And KM needs to be able to make the proper reads and get the ball downfield

Kliff needs to get an OC. Plan and simple.
An OC isn't going to turn him into a leader that disciplines his team to not make so many mistakes and penalties. An OC isn't going to give him the gumption to tell his DC he needs to adjust. An OC isn't going to get him to fix the myriad problems in the 2-minute offense or become the KM whisperer we need him to be. There's a lot an OC won't do for KK. Now, an OC will help with the last 2, but won't be a decisive advantage, and that's even assuming we find a good OC that KK can also work with.

I’m in awe at how bad our hurry up offense still is.

It’s comically bad. Kinda like watching one of those bad college football teams where they have 50 seconds to score yet only end up getting off three plays and gaining seven yards before clock runs out.
Especially when you take in to consideration that the entire offensive philosophy is to go as fast as possible to gas the defense.

Conjecture.

Penalties - KC had 111 penalties this year, we had 114. I suppose Andy Reid isn't a leader then either?

My greatest fear is that they assume just doing what they did this year will produce the same results. One of the classic fallacies is presuming the future will simply be an extension of the past. If these two don’t change I wouldn’t be shocked to see 9-8, tons of finger pointing, lots of remorse and the Cards go back to zero and start over. The cards had so many breaks this year, they won’t likely see next year. Both of these guys improved somewhat this year. Going forward improvement gets harder and you have to accept the need for improvement. You also have to accept responsibility for your failures. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Curious what breaks do you mean? Do you mean like the Vikings missing a game winning FG?

Because in terms of injuries we certainly didn't get breaks, arguably are 3 best offensive players, Hop, Kyler and Hudson all missed multiple games. Both our RB's have been hurt. They said yesterday it was the first time all year that we had all 5 starting OL's as planned since game 1 when the season started. We've had snapper and holders go down which impacted games. We lost Watt on defense. We had CB's drop like flies.

So did everyone else mind you I'm just saying it's not like we were abnormally healthy this year.

Guys losing Watt and Hopkins is why we struggled doing anything. Watt
Was double teamed which open the lanes for Jones and others. Hopkins was an automatic catch on 3rd and 7. Those players make a 2-3 game difference easily. We beat Green Bay of Hopkins doesn’t get hurt. He was dominating that game. We beat Indy with both. And we beat Seattle with both. It is what it is. But most experts would agree the Cardinals fully healthy are an elite team. Losing those 2 really derailed out season. Both made major impacts on both sides of the ball. Both healthy we were 7-0

Vikes were one example. Tenn game was weird when left tackle had a mental breakdown. Jones was ridiculously effective in only that circumstance. Things like the first Niners game when the Garoppolo and Kittle were both out. The Browns game saw Chubb out and both OTs. As to Cards‘ injuries, they certainly had them. Both RBs weren’t out at the same time. Having the O-line intact didn’t change much. No question losing the big 3 hurt, but they banked 7 wins before that happened. Those wins carried them into the playoffs as they had a losing record after the Watt injury. In the end I think this was a strong roster. I felt the coaching failed the Cards when they didn’t have a major personnel advantage. They still had enough to beat people like the Lions but weren’t prepared to play.

I think in the off-season they need Kyler to run drills with him being pressured and he can't spin and run back 10 yards and then fall down.

He has to step up or side step, and make a throw. Allow him to get more comfortable stepping up in the pocket. Maybe bring in Drew Brees and teach him to create passing windows.

That would be one of the things he should work on

DC's have him figured out so adjustments need to be made

They need to work on mixing up the snap count, quit clapping to hike the ball and, as has been said, work on time management at end of halves and games.

Kyler also needs to work on progressions and finding the open man when DHop is covered by 3 guys (someone should be open). If he could only grow about 7-8 inches...

He's a MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH better leader and developer of young QBs and offensive guru and I could continue with the superlatives until tomorrow...He's a HoF coach and Kliff is still teetering between decent coach and never was. You can say Reid hasn't run a disciplined outfit this season, though, of course, just looking at the penalty numbers. I'd still much, much rather have Reid and would much, much rather be in the Chiefs' position.

Agree with all your points.

The point was you said penalties directly related to not being disciplined (not being a leader that disciplines his team). I pointed out KC and Andy Reid to show that the doesn't correlate.

Fair. I have to bee to micro-focused on meaning and tightness in my fiction and professional writing, and I get sloppy on the message board.

I'm absolutely mystified that after 3 years, people still think Kliff should stick around. How many late season collapses will prove that when things get tough, Kliff's teams fold?

The same problems creep up again and again. Pre snap penalties, confusion, missed assignments, total lack of continuity on both offense and defense. They are all the symptoms of the same problem - a total lack of leadership. Guys like him because he doesn't pressure them, but that's the problem! You can get away with half assed effort against bad teams, but once games start to matter, THE DETAILS MATTER!!!

This entire show is predicated on Kyler performing at an MVP level, which doesn't happen unless he's in mint condition. Any appearance of progress from Kyler at the beginning of the season appears to be a mirage - he's looking totally lost out there, and like a guy who doesn't study film.

There is no chance this team is winning anything of significance with Kliff at the helm, he's not good enough strategically or as a motivator. Any more years with Kliff in charge are a complete waste.

Yeah. We were 3-4 in games decided by one score or less.

Dunno about injuries compared to the rest of the league. We'll know more in the spring when FO publishes their Adjusted Games Lost metrics.

I just don't see how someone can look at the progress that Kliff has made the past two seasons and say, "I dunno whether this guy is even going to try to get better." He's managed to make significant improvements every season; this isn't the same team it was a year ago or two years ago.

They stopped using it outside of crunch time. Makes it all the much harder to be good at it when it matters.

Look at where this team was before he got here and the VAST improvement this team has had under him. Ignoring that, is arguably WORSE than complaining about all of his shortcomings.

DCR - they had the #1 pick in the draft and were coming off of a coach that was fired in one year. Coming up from arguably the darkest spot in franchise history is an incredibly low bar to clear. Year one can be thrown almost completely out the window. Let's focus on last year and this year.

From what I see, we started out both years looking great! Then when things started getting difficult, the wheels completely fell off. What am I missing here? If we go out and lose 5-6 when games actually matter, how can you say that is progress?

How can anyone seriously watch this team of late and think they are moving in the right direction? The record speaks for itself, but the visuals are terrible too! An offense stuck in neutral, with a QB that looks lost, and no offensive identity. Yeah, we were running the clock and controlling the ball earlier in the year, but that was months ago.

The less said about the D the better - we're getting run over every game now, and the secondary isn't doing any better.

It's incredible to me how many people are satisfied with the product they're being served.

Where is the vast improvement? What can you hang your hat on with this team? We have no identity on either side of the ball, and are on pace to flame out again. We're still highly penalized, and continue to look like a team that hasn't played together. We're 3 years in!!!
