KM deserves it, but man, every time I watch Bosa... I guess I'll just always have a man crush.
Bosa wouldn’t have Jack dookie with us. He is surrounded by a ton of talent. Not taking anything away from Bosa but it is what it is.

That's why I find it nonsense to name AJ Brown or Jacob's as rookie of the year.

If a rookie QB has a decent season, 99% of the time, he was more valuable than another position.
But the award isn’t for overall value; it’s for most outstanding rookie performance. Obviously the QB touches the ball on every play — they’re going to contribute more on a per-play basis.

I dunno... that kid seems to have an extra gear and passion that his brother doesn't. At least I don't have to ask wtf we're doing at QB for the next few years, but that guy is a star in the making.

I'll be happily wrong when I'm 60 and Kyler is inducted into the Hall of Fame.

I agree and wanted him. But the team would have been unwatchable without Kyler Murray this year. The General Manager and VP (Keim and Bidwill) swung wrong and put the franchise in this position. I don’t look back and watch Kansas City jumping over us to draft Mahomes. I just look forward and see that Kyler Murray is better than Joe Burrow, an injured Tua, or Goodness Forbid Justin Herbert. I will take Kyler Murray over any of them.

Not sure why you say this when Joey had more sacks & TFL his rookie year despite playing in 4 less games with considerably less DL talent around him?

lol

I seen DJ Humphries shut him down twice this year.

Nick had spurts where he looked dominate then had runs where he looked average. He’s good but he didn’t have the year his brother had

Aren't you the one that argues about the eye test? He's the consensus DROY.

His passion on the field is undeniable. He's already a leader there, and constantly being bragged about.

He's in the playoffs killing it right now when it matters. Take that for what it's worth.

Even if Nick Bosa turns out to be a top 5 pass rusher in the NFL from here on out. I'll take an above average QB over that each and every day. Look at the elite defense of the Bears in recent years. Since they had subpar QB play, they stood no chance to win a championship.

We must build around KM from now on. OL and DL with similar grade on the board? Pick has to be OL. WR or CB? Give KM a legit playmaker!

Defensive holes have to be plugged mainly through FA. But you still don't pass on defensive BPA in the draft. Protecting and helping KM has to be a premium though! You don't want another Andrew Luck scenario, where you risk the longterm outlook of your young franchise QB.

Kinda seems exactly like you're taking something away from Bosa. Granted, you're providing a rationale for doing so, but... what a strange phrase to use!

Is that how the PFWA defines it, or is that your personal definition? I didn't see any criteria listed on the PFWA website.

It must be, because Nick Bosa was the PFWA Rookie of the Year, and Josh Jacobs was their Offensive Rookie of the Year. It’s right at the top of the thread.

Not claiming Bosa isn’t a talent... perhaps a future superstar. I’m just saying he is surrounded by talent allowing him space to excel. However, when you’re talking Rookie of the year you have to take in consideration what Kyler has accomplish with the lack of his surrounding cast and the responsibility the qb position has.

You are not wrong. Bosa appears to be headed to stardom. But considering rookie of the year I think if you compare responsibilities of each position and the lack of supporting cast , kyler should be rookie of the year. Make no mistake. I think Bosa will be a beast for years to come.

Do you really want to compare the job of the qb with a DE? I am not claiming the voters are required to take anything in consideration.
Bosa has a very nice year. Kyler has a very nice year.
How many records did Bosa break this year? And Kyler? that being said that is why the voters vote. You vote for Bosa and that’s okay. I’d vote for Kyler.

You may not need a great defense to compete, but you have to at least have a pretty good one.

Look at every team still in the playoffs and they all have at least a good defense.

Of course we shouldn't necessarily be prioritizing defense completely over offense, but there are some spots on defense in which we are more needing than some spots on offense.

For instance I think we are more needy of DL than OL, but we do of course need to bring in at least a solid RT.

I dunno. San Fran has the #2 defense by DVOA, but Kanasas City, Green Bay, and Tennesee are grouped together 14-16. Tennessee's defense is actually below average.

I think we need more help on both sides, but we can make the most marginal improvement on defense right now than on offense. OTOH, offensive performance is more consistent from year to year.

All 4 teams are top 12 in points allowed this year. That is ultimately what matters in the end for a defense.

That pretty much lines up with what I said and that is that you don't need a great defense, but you do at least need a good/pretty good one.

Our current defense has quite a ways to go to get to that level, but our offense is probably just a couple pieces away from making a big jump.

Total points is also dependent on the quality of opponent, though. New England's NFL-leading points defense doesn't look as impressive when compared to its last-ranked schedule of opponents.

The Cards' defense is closer than you might think. The pass defense was 27th in DVOA with Patrick Peterson AWOL for half the year and Robert Alford on IR for the entire year. The rush defense was a more respectable 12th. Get healthy in the secondary and put another candle on the birthday cake, and you might have a solid unit again next year.
