I don't like reporting what i heard on the radio, but my cousin lives up in dallas and told me the radio station she listens to is reporting the following is what is currently discussed, but they don't know if kobe approves:

Lakers:

Lamar Odom
Josh Howard
Caron Butler
Antoine Walker
Danny Fortson

Miami:

Shaquille O'Neal
Brian Cook

Dallas:

Rick Fox
Brian Grant
Lakers 1rounder

I know its just radio, but just reporting what i heard, think it would be a pretty interesting trade?

good question Sweet D - I see absolutely ZERO reason why Dallas would make this move.

i don't know that it makes too much sense from dallas' side either, except that grant is some muscle in the middle and fox's contract is expiring. they also get a 1rd'er to maybe send off to utah for payback on pavel? however, other than howard, i don't know that they're giving up too much either.

Maybe they fill that if they helped get Shaq out of the West it would give them a chance?

This is just like the rumored Miami/Laker trade except now for no apparent reason Dallas is throwing in talent to help sweaten the pot for the Lakers.

The best part for the Mavs is Brian Grant (30 mpg starting center for them) for Danny Fortson (waste of space). They make up for it by trading Antoine Walker (big expiring contract) for Rick Fox (little expiring contract), and Josh Howard for a pick or player.

It seems like the Mavs are trying to get rid of Howard--he's been in every trade rumor coming out of Dallas. My guess is that the 6-year contract they just gave to Marquis Daniels has something to do with that.

Simply unloading walker would not be a problem. They are trying to actually get something of value in return. That's where they are running into trouble.

Thank you for the report PlayStation. It's always nice to hear what they are saying and other places.

Since I didn't want to start a new thread on this, so I'll put it here

Ric Bucher reports the proposed Miami Deal for Shaq includes Odom, Brian Grant, their 1st rounder, and Caron Butler.

Are you sure? I just saw on ESPN that it was a 1st round pick OR Butler.

Who knows at this point?

The deal I mentioned earlier was said by Ric Bucher on ESPNews. Now I see the story that you are talking about that was reported by Jim Gray.

Believe it or not, both trades work under the CBA. Both deals are still incredibly one-sided (especially the one without Caron Butler) IMO

L.A. Lakers trades: C Shaquille O'Neal (21.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 2.9 apg in 36.8 minutes)
L.A. Lakers receives: PF Brian Grant (8.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 30.3 minutes)
SF Lamar Odom (17.1 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 4.1 apg in 37.5 minutes)
SF Caron Butler (9.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 29.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +13.5 ppg, +9.9 rpg, and +4.0 apg.

Miami trades: PF Brian Grant (8.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 30.3 minutes)
SF Lamar Odom (17.1 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 4.1 apg in 37.5 minutes)
SF Caron Butler (9.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 29.8 minutes)
Miami receives: C Shaquille O'Neal (21.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 2.9 apg in 67 games)
Change in team outlook: -13.5 ppg, -9.9 rpg, and -4.0 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to L.A. Lakers and Miami being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. L.A. Lakers and Miami had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
