Vince Carter on way out of Jersey?

EAST RUTHERFORD -- Take a good look at the home team's starting lineup when the Nets host the Hornets tonight. Some prominent Nets might not be on the court the next time the team plays.
That is, if they're still here tonight.
Speculation continued to abound Tuesday, as NBA sources indicated there is a real possibility the Nets could move Vince Carter by Thursday's trade deadline. However, the chances of Jason Kidd being dealt appeared to be lessening, as sources said the Nets are not actively seeking a third team to include in a possible Kidd deal.
The Nets expect Carter to opt out of his contract after the season. The Nets are willing to offer a three-year extension worth about $40 million, but the All-Star shooting guard repeatedly has said he is not thinking about next season. That ultimately could lead to his being traded.
League sources say that teams from both conferences are interested in Carter, and the Nets could be willing to move him for a package of "good players" that includes a big man.
Reportedly, the Nets are talking with the Clippers about a package that would include 6-foot-7 guard Shaun Livingston. But two sources denied that Tuesday night. Earlier this season, the Nets were unwilling to trade Carter to the Clippers for Cuttino Mobley and Corey Maggette. Seattle is a possibility for Carter.
The Lakers and Golden State were in the mix, but Los Angeles is the front-runner if Kidd were to be moved. Sources indicate the Lakers offered Jordan Farmar, Aaron McKie, Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown for Kidd. Mihm and Brown are out with injuries.
For the Nets to move Kidd to the Lakers, second-year center Andrew Bynum, a Plainsboro native, would have to be part of the deal, although veteran forward Lamar Odom also would be attractive to the Nets. The Nets also would part with Jason Collins as part of the package.
Sources have indicated that Kidd's divorce proceedings have no bearing on a potential trade. It would be strictly a basketball decision. Kidd did not speak with reporters Tuesday.
Amid all the rumors, the Nets tried to focus on the rest of the season.
"There's always a little anxiety and stress when you read about your name in the papers," coach Lawrence Frank said, referring to players who are the subject of trade rumors. "Once [the trade deadline] is over, you're able to get some closure."
Frank added, "As a coach, you always wish the group you started with [finishes the season]. You'd like to see what you could do. I don't waste a whole lot of energy on it, because there's not a whole lot of control I have over it."
Carter didn't speculate about his immediate future. About his current team, he said, "We can't look past any games. We have very little margin for error."
"In order for us to make a legitimate run," Frank said, "you have to take it to another gear. Because typically the first two weeks after the [All-Star] break, everyone is excited. I don't care where you're at, whether you're a bottom-dweller or whether you're up top trying to compete for seeding.
"There's another gear that each team has to go to."
But will the same players still be driving the Nets?
