So what happens if both us and the 9ers end up tied in our records and having no shot of getting in the play-offs when we meet in Frisco?
Play for pride or draft spot?
Crazy question I know, but this looks like it might happen.

If San Fran needs the win to get to the playoffs... play for pride and knock 'em out.
If its simply losing a draft position... play for pride.

Bad karma to lose on purpose. Plus when you only have 8 homes games sandbagging a game will drive off fans like you won't believe.

If we have a shot at Luck, we need to forfeit the game. :D

I dont see us having a worse record than Carolina, but it really sucks not knowing if Luck will come out for the draft. I can see the Panthers with the #1 pick & Harbaugh coaching them next year!!!

I think Cowher coaches the Panthers next year. They are built like a Cowher team, have good ownership and Cowher lives in NC. No matter who the coach is I don't see them drafting Luck if he declares.

Yeah, that is how we missed out on Eli Manning for a game that no one remembers. Not saying Eli is the best but what I wouldnt give for him now. As that scenario turned out SD traded Manning for Rivers. So I guess Rivers would be the QB unless the Cardinals meesed him up and drove him off saying he couldnt play. I could live with Rivers. At some point you have to think strategically instead of type A win win win even if you win nothing by winning. Sometimes to lose is to win. Bidwill thinks he understands that concept.

The NBA wised up and put in a lottery because they recognized strategically thinking teams would lose on purpose. I really dont think Bidwill would do this because the number one pick would be mucho money.

Nope. NEVER lose on purpose. You will never convince me otherwise.

Me either.

Think about it. Not only was that miracle win vs the Vikings one of the best times I've ever had at SDS it also got us Larry Fitzgerald, Kurt Warner, and an NFC Championship and Super Bowl appearance instead of a replay of the Kelly Stouffer mess if we'd drafted Eli Manning.

Of course I have always been of the opinion that the Cards were taking Fitz in '04 no matter where they drafted.

It was in Green's contract that he got to pick his friend's son in his first draft.

What if we were playing for pride or the draft rights to Peyton Manning? Each player is going to have his own agenda. Some will give it their all. Some guy about to enter free agency for big bucks may decide it is not worth taking chances on getting hurt. Some go all out regardless. I doubt such a scenario will develop and we want have to concern our selves with such things. There are some guys I have the feeling always come to play. If we can knock someone out of the playoffs I think we have more players who will give it their all. If we are out of it and the game is meaningless does the coach start the best players or does he give some of the younger guys a shot. This could be a game where we might see Skelton for a quarter. Surely he is not so horrible that he could not play in a meaningless game at the end of the season. If he is that bad should we even have him on the team?

I am reminded of the great Ted Williams. He went into the last game of the season hitting .400 and the coach wanted to sit him down so he would end up hitting the magic .400. He said no and I think went 4 for 5. Some guys come to play. He spent his prime years as a Navy fighter pilot during WWII. Would our great DB who turned down millions to join the Army and become a Ranger not give his all. I sure do not think so. He had more than his share of pride.

Yes, but you can play Skelton the rest of the way to "see what you have in him." :)

Now that, depending on the circumstances, is something I do agree with. I've seen new college coaches for instance come into a program in disarray with say a weak Sr. QB and a Sophomore QB with huge potential and then continue to play the Sr. and finish 4-7. I've never understood that.

If you're dead in the water why not get the young guys some experience?

Unless you have Max Hall playing behind the Cards oline this season and he would be in traction by week 14.

That was one of the most fun NFL games I have ever been in attendance. I will always remember that game and there are quite a few Vikes fans who will too.
