This is not a bad trade. Dillon Brooks would likely have been better for the Suns long term.

And from Gambo, some confirmation.

Maybe the Suns can do a separate trade with Oubre now or this summer. Who knows, maybe they decide to keep him and trade one of their wings.

No picks were involved in this trade.

Like I suspected. Still if a trade with the Lakers was better, the Suns should have done it.

Yeah, I’d like to know what their offer was.

Jones got the better value of the two parties in this trade, but it still leaves a gaping hole as to what to do at PG. Rivers is not the answer

If the Suns end up with Rivers and Oubre for Ariza, it's not a bad trade.

Having Oubre's rights as a restricted free agent might get the Suns something more in a sign and trade this summer. And Rivers is probably better than what the Suns have at point guard.

Rivers isn't better than what the Suns have a point guard, but Oubre at least makes the deal not a total disaster.

Rivers is a shoot-first point guard who can't shoot. He gets 2.0 assists per game in 24 mpg. He shoots 39% from the field. He shoots 54% from the free throw line!!!

His career numbers aren't much better (2.4 apg, 42% and 64% from the line).

He's my absolute least favorite type of basketball player: A point guard who is mediocre but thinks he's great.

He's Mike James. He's Brandon Knight.

I'd rather play our young guys. They're not good either, but there's at least some hope they will be good in the future. Rivers is just as bad now and he will always be bad. Your best hope is last season with the Clippers where he shoots well enough from 3 to justify his inefficiency elsewhere. The Suns should want more.

The only thing Rivers offers is an expiring contract. If they trade for him, I sincerely hope they release him. This team is already tough enough to watch most nights.

This times a thousand. The fact that the Suns are even considering trading for him tells me that what passes for the current front office doesn't have a clue how to put an NBA roster together.

The thing with Oubre, the Suns have too many wings that can play and the Suns don't want to pay him.

I'm not sure the Suns wanted to get better because of the upcoming draft. It makes me think the Suns will do another trade.

Is he? I haven't really watched him play but his stats are average at best...

He's long and tall. He's kind of like a Tim Thomas lite. He's a SF but in today's NBA he can play PF because of his size. If he's motivated to earn a contract, and he'll be a RFA this summer, then he might help us out some. He's better than Anderson, Bender, or Warren playing PF and that allows Warren to slide back to SF.

Edit - I thought he was taller than he's listed. I vaguely remember hearing he was 6'10 somewhere but all I can find now is that he's 6'7 or 6'8.

Please tell me we're not already talking about tanking in December. This team needs to learn how to win, even if it means sacrificing draft position. We already have a losing culture here. Playing to lose, particularly three years in a row and this early in the season, doesn't help that. Of course, if Adam Silver gets wind of this and forces the Suns to take on a basketball operations consultant a la the Sixers, then I am all for it...

With every move the Suns make we are all left saying "there must be another trade to follow."

Oubre has some value. He is not more valuable than TJ or Mikal, but more so than JJ at this point probably. I do not see value in Rivers at all.

I'm not sure the Suns wanted to get too good until the summer. This may push the team to improve now.

Rivers has negative value. As another poster put it, he is a poor man's Brandon Knight.

Maybe Rivers has value to Doc and we can use him to finally pry Teodosic out of LA? Wishful thinking. I don't think the Clippers can reacquire him since they traded him away this past offseason.

And why would they want to? The
Clippers became monumentally better the moment they jettisoned Austin Rivers. Heck, the guy couldn't win at Duke. That should tell you all you need to know.

We agree on all of this. It would be ironic if the Suns are forced to move up their time table.

Oubre played for Kansas like Jackson. Maybe we're moving from getting Kentucky guards to Jayhawk forwards?

Sarver knows we're not getting Doc Rivers, right? :D

And the blurb about not trading with LA because of fan reaction...wtf? LA certainly isn't our rival any more, but we still hate LA. He didn't know this?
