Matt better be watching film on the plane ride home.

Matt better be watching film on how a real NFL QB gets the ball to his receivers, i.e. Warner.

Matt seems scared to make a mistake right now which is why he is just dinking the ball and not going downfield.

Say what you want about Kurt Warner, but he is not afraid to throw the ball.

We do want Kurt though... It was a different team with him on the field. too much politics in football because Kurt Warner should be our starter at least for this season.
yeah we know if you were the GM too you would draft Brian Brohm. IF everyone just chills out Matt will be fine. Man. Everyone just needs to chill out it will all be fine.

I am sure he will be fine regardless if some guys on message boards don't chill out. He hasn't even played a full season yet, I think it's a bit early to freak out.

If anything Whiz made this decision today to go with Kurt he needs to own part of Matt's success in this offense now. We all know Kurt isn't a long term answer and Matt could be. The right thing to do is win games but ultimately make sure your future is secure as well, it would be foolish to do otherwise considering he is in zero danger of losing his job this year or next. I know some people think QB's like ML are disposable and we can just pencil in college QB X in next years draft, but take a look back at the QB's in the past and tell me how easy it is (even with our ideal draft positions year after year), take a chill pill, think about it for a while and you'll see that...it's an easy decision.

I think its funny how alot of people bash Kurt and now he shows he is still the better QB and people do a 180! Its fine if you want to start Matt but you better keep an eye on the team if they feel they want KW in you may start to have some issues!

I am not one of them. I don't post a lot here, but I've always felt Kurt is still a highly capable starter. With a Russ Grimm coached line, Kurt has time to shred a defense with our receivers. As he just proved today.

There is a difference between years to factor in also.

This offense, this line, this team functions at the moment better with Kurt.

I've noticed that both of them have time, Kurt uses it better and yes he'll always hold the ball too long at times.

The thing is this line can give him enough time that it will payoff when he holds it that long probably more than it will hurt, Kurt has always been that way, if you give him enough time he'll devour a D, and this line is capable of that kind of time.

Last year, most definitely not!!!

KEY difference to factor into the thinking on this IMO.

Nobody has suggested that we dump Matt. However, Warner gives us the best chance of winning. Maybe Matt is not ready to start and needs more time to be a starter. How many games are you willing to lose waiting for Matt to learn the system? Give Warner a chance. If it does not work then we can go back to Matt.

Wow still just a surprising decision after the way warner lit up the best D in the NFL. We'll see how quick a hook he has on him this week!

That's a good point Conrad. The big edge Kurt has is reading defenses. He's got that knack for knowing where to go with the ball. His weakness is he's a turnover machine under a heavy pass rush. Given proper time, he can light it up.

Whisenhunt really has a can of worms to deal with here.

Matt is a good guy, I think Matt needs this, better to find out now if this motivates him or not.

If not he's not worth our time, if he can't handle this he's not worth our time and if he can't beat out Warner he's not worth our time.

This is professional football not Matt's playground and personal stepping stone to rock star status, if you want that status you earn it Matt if not get the hell off the team and go somewhere else.

I'm not at all giving up on the kid but it's a great thing that's happened, we got a #2 that's going to push him for all he's worth, we got a coach with the stones to push him too, that's the only way he'll ever get near our big expectations of him.

I think it's awesome to have the problem, it just means we're not so sucky we have no choice ala Plummer.

Open them cans up Whis!! :)

That's the way you get to finally open up a can of whoopass on other teams IMO.

What was disheartening today was that Matt played scared from his first snap to his last. Never saw that before.

He was afraid to throw, afraid not to throw. I'll reserve judgment for now until I see more. However, I must say, many young QBs often look confused and make mistakes. Rarely do they look terrified, if they are NFL starting caliber.

I agree with starting him again. We need to know by the off week if we blew another high QB pick.

On the other hand Coach W is fortunate to have one of, if not, the best backup qb in the league.

I think Warner will end up the starter after the next game, two or three series for Matt and it'll be over, unless he does well.

I don't expect he will, Pittsburg is largely more of the same team the Ravens are.

I expect Warner to play this year after that game and he should, it won't kill Matt to learn he has to compete for the job, may the best guy start if Matt can't fend off Warner he's not the best guy and that's that.

Stop it (this isn't solely directed at you). It's silly for people to continually misspell this city name. Stop it (in my best Ahnold voice). Do it now!

What?
Listen, this was Whisenhunts defining shot over the bow of his playboy qb's carreeer.

You WILL prepare, you WILL focus. I f not you WILL be benched.

Matt needs to get his head out of his ass and focus on the team. I find this much more refreshing for our coaching staff than any sorry feelings for Matt. You perform or have a seat. As it should be.

Then why is Eric Green still playing?

Picking their poison I guess. Green can cover but can't tackle. Rolle can tackle but can't cover. Like someone else said it'd be great if we could merge the two of them.

It looks like he's overthinking everything at this point. He's worried about his footwork, the new scheme, the defense, etc and so he gets into bad habits that make it so he's not successful (ie staring down receivers, not checking down).

He needs to get comfortable so that he's at the point where he reads and reacts instead of going through things detail by detail. Once he does that he'll be fine

This is what you get from a young QB playing a complicated Ravens defense. Warner is a vet that isn't going to be confused as easily. What you hope is that Matt will learn and grow out of that.

Yeah, that's how I've seen his play during preseason and so far this season. His best plays have actually been improvises for the most part, where he was just reacting.

I have to bring it up again ----- Leinart should have had a lot more reps during training camp. The practice schedule was too light. It takes a LOT of work to make passing mechanics automatic.

KW'S balls are not only accurate but they have some mustard on them. When ML throws it looks like he is just lobbing them up there, and therefore he throws high and off his back foot.

Now I know ML doesn't have the stromgest arm in the world. So for him to be successful he's going to have to Learn to trust his reads and let the ball go alittle sooner.

It's too late for him to prepare as the starter, though. He's working on things he NEEDED to have down pat PRIOR to the season, instead of focusing on the week's opponent and those specific schemes. He needs benched not only so he doesn't kill us any more, but so that he has time to work out what needs to be worked out.
