Lombardi/NFLN bottom scroll also confirming.

Lombardi was the one who broke this story awhile back, and was emphatic that Leinart's days in AZ were coming to an end. Since then we've been treated to the ultimate song and dance by Whiz.

"No decision has been made"... yeah, right.

For Leinart's sake, I hope that is where he lands. Laid back town, laid back coach, familiarity and support from coach. It would really be the best thing for him.

I don't think he is very laid back this go around. Dude has been pretty harsh to a lot of his USC Alumni so far this season. Pretty much told the world his starting safety his last year at UCS stunk, cut one more, and traded another one away. Only Mike Williams has survived.

Matt is going to Seattle or Niners without a doubt in my mind right now.

Ugh...I really don't want him in a situation where he can thrive and play us 2 times a year.

That would really, really, REALLY suck.

However, I'm starting to think it's possible matty didn't have anything left in the tank (mentally). A lot of a QB's performance comes from between the ears, and Matt may have been irrevocably messed up by the injuries and demotions. I think Whiz knows what he's doing.

But it will be a freaking nightmare if DA flops and matty rises from the ashes to become a great QB.

Come on after what you have seen form him over last 5 years as a whole are you really THAT worried about that? I'm not.

Absolutely. I think it is clear that he has talent, and it is clear that he didn't fit in this system, with this coach. In an environment where he would be patted on the ass for being the starter, I do worry that he'd do quite well. Add in that he'd be throwing to his old stud WR in Mike Williams, and you've already got chemistry.

In a different situation, a different coach and a different lockerroom, it would be silly to think he'd be the version of him we've seen lately, and not the one we saw in his rookie year.

I'm not shocked. Certainly not a big fan of Matt's. But regardless he was the best option as a #2. Its not even close. Just not a good decision IMO.

I just can't see him being content to sit as the number 2 behind DA. Given that, keeping him would have been setting the team up for too much turmoil and controversy. DA is going to throw some picks and now at least all we'll have to put up with are the "I told you so's". If he had stayed we would have been bombarded by the "We want Leinart" chants also.

This is depressing. Not because I think Matt deserves to start (he HAS after all looked like a defeated man these last couple of seasons, and even worse this preseason), but that the QBOTF that we all thought we were getting turned out to not be that guy.

I hope for his sake he can turn it around; I'm just sad that it won't be in Arizona.

I don't think Leinart is just another USC player though. Not according to Petros anyway. Leinart was the king of USC and treated as such by Carroll. Leinart and Bush were both treated much differently than the rest of the team according to the stories I've heard.

Has any NFL team ever lost as many name players as the Cards have this off season. Note that I said name players not great players. By name players I mean guys casual Cards fans and fans of other teams would recognize.

Warner, Berry, Rolle, Leinart, Dansby, Rackers and Boldin. Even Okeafor could be considered in that group.

Well there go the hundreds of good looking women in a size too small #7 jersey and tight jeans who only came to the games because of Matt. :(

Really?? "Thrive"??? Both Seattle and the 9ers have issues on the o-line. All we would need to do is bring pressure and cover the short routes. Matty will suffer... not thrive!!!;)

How do you know that this isn't what Matty demanded? :D

I think this is exactly what happened. They met, and Matt said play me or trade me. I have been told one thing and it is another. Time for me to move on. He would have been devisive in the locker room after what he was told, what we were all told was going to be a chance to finally see him play a season. Put your tray and seats in the up right position we are on our descent into NFL mediocraty again. Got to support DA and Whis but this has disater written all over it IMO.

The lack of touch and picks are a virtual guarantee given DA's history, so the chant will be "We want "Mini-Max!"... followed by "We want Red Skelton!" ;)

If this guy couldn't do it I don't think it can be done. I think were are forever cursed to be a team that is ALWAYS in transition at the QB position. AZ will always be journeyman QB land. Ugh...

I like Max Hall's potential, but this is absolutely crazy. Has an UDFA QB ever started a game as a rookie? I certainly can't think of any. Well, we're now one DA injury away from breaking that ground. What a terrifying thought.

Someone in the organization really messed up on this one. Even Brady Quinn brought a pick and Peyton Hillis in return. Not to mention our new starting QB has only gotten first team reps with this team for two weeks. I'm not saying letting Leinart go will be bad for the team in the end, although I think it will hurt in the short term. But the way this went down is inexcusable.

You know, I really didn't think much of Leinart skipping the media session after the first preseason game, but now it makes sense. Much more sense than Matt forgetting about it.

Farewell to the most controversial Cardinal of all time.

My first question to Whiz as a reporter would be: "Did you ask ML to be the team's number 2 QB?

(The answer to that will give us pretty good idea as to what went down and how)

Well, I'm much more concerned about the other side of this. This cut means that either Whis and the FO did not see eye to eye coming into this offseason or that Whis didn't actually know what he had in Leinart after 2+ years or Whis didn't actually give him a true opportunity.

Making the wrong call on Leinart, hand picking DA, going into the season with Hall as #2...a crash could be coming.

If there's a bright side to cutting matt, this is it.

Nobody will be screaming for Hall after the first DA interception. But if Matty was still on the roster, DA's first oskie would have resulted in a chorus of "we want Matt!".

There would have been no end to the controversy.
