Lions released S Aaron Francisco.

Signed a little over two weeks ago, Francisco was looking to make the Lions as a reserve defensive back and special teamer. Of his 23 career starts, 12 came with the Colts last season. He should be able to get on the field somewhere this season.

Every time I hear his name I think of that dropped interception right before the 2 minute warning in the Super Bowl.

Now I realize it was unfair, but at the time, I was firmly in the belief that Aaron Francisco was the sole reason why we lost the superbowl. He blew like 3 consecutive covers on that Steelers final TD drive. Ill never applaud someones misfortune, but im not shedding any tears over him.

We were sitting right on the goal line for that TD. I said he was down, but my son correctly kept telling me his knee came down on Fitz's foot. Then after the review he said that's Cardinals luck.:(

Welcome to the board.

But why did CP have him continually covering the only guy that could beat us? That would be a better question, coaches have to put players in position, that what sticks in my head. :bang:

Id imagine because shuffling around guys into different spots mid game (mid Superbowl) is probably something you want to avoid. Maybe hed hope Aaron would snap into it and make a play.

There may have been no alternative, maybe the guy they wouldve moved AF to wouldve been an even bigger mismatch, who knows.

Probably right but hindsight is 20/20 so because it didn't work out. Maybe we then would have had more time to come back . :D:D

Itès amazing the impact that sports has on us, because losing that SuperBowl was one of the saddest moments of my life.

Was it him or Ware that slipped and let the Steeler turn a 5 yard catch into a 30 or so yard gain?

I was busy throwing up and glowering at Cheesebeef in the stands at that point of the meltdown.

I thought that was DRC. Maybe not. I've blocked out most of that game.

Pretty sure it was Francisco who slipped, but its been a long time since I've had the masochistic urge to view that game again.
Another memory of Francisco was picking off McNabb in the NFC championship game but then getting stripped from behind by DeSean Jackson.

Just sucked it up and found the last 3 minutes on Youtube. There's no way I'd call the incomplete just before the 2:00 warning a dropped int by Francisco; can't really tell if he even got his hands on the ball or if it bounced off the receiver's hands. Definitely Francisco slipping on the big catch and run, though.

Yeah, I didn't remember any dropped INT. I think I'd have remembered that. That would have haunted me forever.

How did you guys go from a reference to a fumble after an interception in the NFC Championship game against Philly to a dropped INT in the Super Bowl against Pittsburgh?

I love ASFN.

-D.McNabb pass deep middle intended for 87-B.Celek INTERCEPTED by 47-A.Francisco at ARZ 42. 47-A.Francisco to PHI 31 for 27 yards (10-D.Jackson). FUMBLES (10-D.Jackson), RECOVERED by PHI-69-J.Runyan at PHI 25. 69-J.Runyan to PHI 25 for no gain (58-K.Dansby).

Cards laid down for a few minutes after that and Philly just raced down the field. Then the D woke up, held for 3 downs and the Eagles missed the FG. And Warner hits Fitz for 62 and six on the next play.

Really.

I think of him falling on his face as Santonio Holmes runs by him to pick up a HUGE gain.

He was the goat for the SB, IMO.

Best block was by an undisciplined Antrel Rolle on the one player who could have run Harrison down.

Fransisco. Sure of it.

Fransisco will be immortalized in time as the goat in many historical NFL highlights.

Dude also had a shot at making a pick on a terribly thrown duck Ben chucked into the air with about 2 minutes left, but couldn't come up with it. Even if he caught it, that no talent ass clown probably would have fumbled the ball right back... like he did in the NFC Title game.

Cheese, what's the difference between a ass clown and just a regular old clown? :D

we'd have been better off just letting Holmes score on that play, giving us another 20 seconds to get us in position to throw it up to Fitz in the endzone.

still can't believe they never reviewed Warner's last "fumble" either. i'm not one to EVER complain about the refs but we got jobbed HARD a couple times in that game.

If Holmes doesn't make that "catch" in the endzone, do they even score? What down was it?
