Lions | Team releases K. Jones
Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:50:34 -0700

The Detroit Lions announced Thursday, March 13, that the team released RB Kevin Jones

I would say that RB now becomes a top priority for the Lions in the draft as the only decent runner is Tatum Bell.

Lions | K. Jones says team will release him
Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:02:47 -0700

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones said Thursday, March 13, that he was informed by the Lions that the team will release him. "They told me this morning that they were going to release me," Jones said. "Yeah, I was surprised. I was in two weeks ago and saw the staff and (president Matt) Millen and everything was OK. Two weeks later, they told me I was getting released."

Wow.

I think (if he can stay healthy) he can be a top back. Last couple of years he nevr really had that chance in Martz's offense. He's a guy that needs touches (which is an odd balancing act because he does get hurt so much).

Wow. I am all for a low risk move like this. Kevin Jones was electrifying in college and he is fast as heck. He has played in a place like Detroit so its not all on him.

If we bring him in then I do this with our draft.

1) Aquib Talib/Mike jenkins
2) Quentin Groves
3) Kevin Smith/Ray Rice

Get rid of the tugboat for K. Jones. Nice!!! Jones always killed as a Cardinal on Madden. :)

Without a doubt. Jones can flat out run the rock. And is still relatively young, isn't he?

If we have a chance to bring in jones do it :), that would mean we wouldn't have to really take a rb in the draft right?

:yeahthat: Except change 1) to DRC, we drop tugboat and we're good.

I want to see the Cards make a serious play for Jones.

Only problem is he was put on the IR late last season with a torn ACL. Don't know if he will even be ready for the season start.

Sounds more like Arrington's replacement than tugboats to me. Edge, Jones, 2nd-4th round rookie sounds like a loaded backfield to me that won't see too much of a drop off if (when) we cut Edge next year. In other words...

Really? Damn, I don't remember that at all. I know he came back really fast from a lis frac injury and played pretty well--despite getting injured a lot, I think hes pretty tough ad plays with injuries well.

...but I don't think I knew about the ACL thing.

I would definitely be happy if the Cards were to get this kid, mainly because we wouldn't be asking him to be the guy.

If he was put on IR last year, it was after week 16. He had carries in that game, but not in week 17.

Another thing I noticed when I was looking that up...he went to Cardinal O'Hara HS.

I'd rather bring in Edwards than Jones. I don't touch Jones right now. Not when he's rehabbing an ACL.

6 sacks a year got Pace a $50 million dollar contract from the Jets.

:doi:

Well Pace also had 100 tackles. I really don't know much about Edwards, injury history, playing size now, etc. He's not great against the run it doesn't look like. So really I have no idea what he would command on the open market. But we are so thin at DE and OLB, we need to bring one of each in IMHO before the draft so we aren't forced to draft for need.

Well Pace also had 100 tackles.

# of tackles means absoultely nothing IMO. Ronald McKinnon had over 100 tackles because the Cards couldn't stop the opposing D a few years ago. McKinnon was average at best. Great LBs have large #s of sacks, tackles behind the LOS and game changing plays (passes defended, INT, FF, etc).

My comment was more of a shot at the Jets. Edwards would not get close to those numbers.
