Look at this list of QBs. Then tell me...

CAR: Joe Webb
BAL: Keith Wenning (???)
PIT: Landry Jones
GB: Scott Tolzien
DET: Kellen Moore
CIN: AJ McCarron
DAL: Dustin Vaughan
DEN: Zac Dysert
IND: none on roster or PS
NE: Garrett Gilbert
SEA: BJ Daniels

Those are the 3rd QB on the depth chart on each playoff team, either on the active roster or in some cases the practice squad. Tell me which of these teams could win (and win in the PLAYOFFS at that) with the player on this list at QB.

Today was a brutal loss. Really hard to watch. Butler and Lindley should be left in Charlotte. But if we are being honest with ourselves, the team performed as well as - probably better than - anyone could expect under the circumstances. Take any team in the NFL, then take away both its starting and #2 QB and I am certain that they would look about as bad as we looked on offense today.

Given the hand we were dealt, I'm proud of how hard they played today considering that any team taking the field in the playoffs with a 3rd or 4th string QB has essentially zero chance to win.

Everyone feels very negative right now but let's try not to forget that. This team did what it could after being forced to take the field for a playoff game without an NFL QB.

You could probably list second stringers and the results would be the same. You don't win anything meaningful in this league without a really good QB.

The Cards had a good season all things considered. I think we all knew things were not going to go as well as we wanted once Palmer went down with the knee.

Once you get saddled with finishing the season with your backup unless Kurt Warner or Tom Brady is your backup then things are about to implode.

I think most of us get that and are fine with that, I'm not at all mad we didn't sign someone like Tebow but I wouldn't of minded that it's just not really worth it IMO.

Tebow would of been epic and fun to watch as the circus ensued but I can understand not wanting that, he doesn't fit our offense at all so fine, don't do that and there wasn't anyone really we could of gotten that would of made much of a difference so that's not the problem.

The problem was thinking Carson Palmer was by himself without a real QBOTF on the roster enough to go to battle with.

All we had to do in the OFF SEASON was to get real on that front and by real I don't mean draft Logan Thomas.

See that right there was were I think they went wrong. After that what they did was largely baked in the cake.

If BA was able to win a playoff game with Ryan Lindley starting he should be Coach of the Century!

The Cards were just snake bit injury wise this year and it ultimately doomed their playoff chances.

It's a QB driven league -- and finding a first string QB is hard.

The idea that you could sign one off of someone's practice squad and be successful in the playoffs is a tough ask.

The Cards just had some really crappy luck injury wise

"Were ifs and buts...candy and nuts....every day would be Christmas"

As bad as things broke for us today, including the dreaful PI in the endzone, if we made just 2 plays we would have won in spite of all the adversity. If Rucker had intercepted that backward pass, it was in his hands, and Bethel had run in the fumble before the killer interception, we'd have won. I'm not pointing this out as wishful thinking but to show how close we were to wiining because they overcame so much this season. Injuries killed us. I almost think having Butler as a punter was worse then losing Palmer. He clearly cost us the 1st Seattle game and buried us today. The future is not all dark.

Great post. Thing is I think we could have beat the Panthers with Stanton playing today.

Anyone banging on BASK for trusting too much in Palmer isn't playing fair. Palmer hasn't had injury issues for many years now. Problem was he was underperforming and or was on horrible teams. That wasn't the case with him on the Cards, he was playing better and better and winning and winning more and more games. Sure he is 35 but there are more than a couple of examples of QB's his age playing top notch FB, well enough to win a SB.

I'm sure if any of those teams were in the same position as us, they would have found a better option via free agency. Logan Thomas was our 3rd string for awhile not because he was necessarily "better" than Lindley, but because he's a young rookie, developing, and cheap. Same thing applies to most 3rd string QBs. I highly doubt those other teams would have chose RYAN LINDLEY, a practice squad QB, to be their guy.

So glad you are smarter than BA and Keim.

So you're telling me that Ryan Lindley was the absolute best guy available? The guy is a bum and will most likely be his last game in the NFL. :mulli:

So who should they have brought in, Tebow?? LOL.

It took Palmer an offseason, TC and 8 games to start playing well in BA's system. What QB was out there when Palmer went down for the year who showed more promise then Lindley?

Hindsight is 20/20 but once again who were you bringing in? So yes your answer would presume you are smarter than BASK.

Any street free agent QB would've failed here for a number of reasons, mainly because they also suck and/or are injured, and most of you would be complaining that we picked the wrong guy.

I don't begrudge the team for re-signing Lindley, but rather, I would've liked to have seen what Logan had to offer at this point in the season

How can you settle 3rd string QB problem when many teams can't even settle their 1st string QB issues?

I get the desire to see LT but BA had the same urge and then watched him in practice and said, Lindley you are the next man up.

LT needs a ton of work so putting him out there to suck it up and learn nothing except at this point he sucks isn't a good plan.

If we trust in BA and Moore then we trust them.

Exactly. Half the teams in this league don't have a starter. How in the hell is anyone going to have three good QBs.

I do agree, though, that maybe we could have found someone a little better. Based on how awful Lindley is, certainly someone out there could have done better. Better enough that we'd be winning games? Doubt it. If any of these guys could win games at QB they wouldn't be unemployed.

Agree re: Logan.

In addition, I wouldn't be surprised if the team discusses a possible change to tight end for him.

I think he gets another offseason and preseason before that.

Considering Lindley had nearly a month of starting time to prepare for this game, and ended up delivering the absolute worst performance I have ever seen from a QB... YES, I would have rather had Tim Tebow LOL. There are a handful of other QBs I would rather want than Ryan Lindley too. They would have had half the season to learn the playbook and would have played far better than the joke we saw on national television. 78 yards buddy, that's as bad as it gets. Get off BAs jock and realize that he isn't some kind of genius that you make him out to be. Is he a good coach? Yes. But a lot of the decisions he makes are questionable.

I am no TT fan but I also say YES. That would have been an upgrade over Lindley. Just about every fan, analyst and radio guy I listened too said that the Cards can't with with o Lindley yet this coaching staff insisted it could.

This thread is dumb. Case Keenum won two games for the Texans after being signed off a practice squad the week before starting. Austin Davis won a handful of games for the Rams and had people wondering for a little while if he was the Answer in STL.

Own the fact that it was a bad move to sign Lindley and a more creative front office would, have found a more creative solution.
