I'd be shocked if Jim Livengood was allowed to continue running this search.

I can't imagine the uproar in Tucson...I'd imagine among the boosters it's at a riot level. Comically mishandled.

This is the Mackovic fiasco times 100. From what I gather boosters are already starting to ask back the money they promised (Arizona had a $3.5 million offer on the table for Pitino and Calipari) while Livengood is asking for more to go back and throw the kitchen sink at guys like Few and Capel.

The problem is that Arizona is toxic right now, only someone who truly loves Arizona or is truly desperate is gong to take the job. I'll go with a Wildcat and give it to Pastner. Livengood is done regardless, nobody survives such a public mishandling of an easy job you had five months to prepare for.

Yeah, I know. My point was that it's hypocritical to poke fun at Arizona's situation without looking in the mirror. Things aren't exactly rosy in Tempe. You guys are coming off a 5-7 football season and a 4th place/Round of 32 finish with the most talented team ASU Basketball has had since the early 80's. Arizona fans aren't the only one needing a slice of humble pie in the words of Chris.

I was NOT making light. I was offering true empathy.

I don't care if you think it's cute or not.

Was it that hard to follow?

Except like you did in this thread right here, right? Do you even pay attention to yourself?

I didn't do anything in this thread with Syracuse until you spouted off at the mouth. How old are you?

I do not want to come off as a U of A basher because in truth I have been a fan since I started watching college basketball in 1990 with the Brian Williams (aka Bison Dele), Anthony Cook, Khalid Reeves, Damon Stoudamire, Reggie Geary teams.

But I can sort of see why Floyd along with whom I assume Capel, Calipari, Pitino, etc. U of A is in shambles and will be for at least the next couple of years and the new coach is going to be closely scrutinized by alum, boosters, fans, you name it. If they can't bring Arizona back to elite status (Gillespie at Kentucky) they see it as wasted time especially since USC is on the rise along with Oklahoma and we ain't Kentucky plus we didn't offer the 4 or 6 years, $32M that Cal got.

Right now there are no big names left and if you asked Pearl he would probably say no too, unless we find the next Tom Crean who left a good thing at Marquette to rebuild Indiana, like everyone has already stated we should just bring in Pastner. At least the guy can recruit which is something we are really going to need more so than an experienced coach.

BTW, if anyone is in the know can someone answer as to how we got off of Capel in the search, did he say no or did Livengood really think he could net Floyd? Is just eating me up.

Didn't sell it right. Livengood doesn't realize that sometimes in business you have to take a couple points off the bottom line to get the deal you want.

Yeah.. gotta admit this is turning into a pretty funny circus...

I will say this, If UofA ends up falling A$$-backwards into a legit coach now, I am going to be PISSED... I don't think it will happend, but it seems like thats the one thing left in this CRAZY scerenio....

But in all honesty, if I were a UofA fan, I'd rather have Floyd walk away and roll the dice with a better option then settling... Just my opinion..

If UA and Capel or Few were apart of a few hundred thousand dollars and Arizona decided to up it's offer after getting denied by Floyd I wouldn't call it falling ass-backwards into a coach.

We're in the same position as a national joke that Alabama was in a couple years ago. Then they decided to throw the world at Nick Saban and two years later played in a BCS game. Arizona's going to have to do the same.

UA Head Coach Mike D'Antoni?

Even Dan Dan would be a good hire, but it's hard to think of a current standing NBA coach that would take a college job right now. My hat's off to y'all if UA pulled it off, though. Maybe Mike Dunleavy wants to get out of NBA hell. That would be interesting.

Thats pretty much exactly how I feel except if we somehow fired Livengood and had someone else take over the search and fell into a good coach I would be happy.

IMO, only two minute or minoot possibilities of that happening:

1. Ernie Kent staying at Oregon and we give Few around $4M a year, maybe he thinks about it after he doesn't get the job he thought was his.

2. Someone like Sean Miller really wants a change of scenery or Jamie Dixon is really down about not making it to the Final 4 let alone winning a title which I had them doing in my office pool and decides he wants a challenge.

If we offered Few 4 mil a year I would throw a fit. 4 mil a year and we could have had very serious talks with Pitino and Calipari despite what has already happened.

Haha.

Really though, if Arizona goes to Jeff Capel and offers to triple his salary to $3 million annually which is more than Bob Stoops makes then he's leaving Oklahoma. That's the reality Livengood and Arizona need to face if they want to save their own hide.

On the radio Doug Gottlieb said Capel is still lurking around and I imagine he's got a good source or two in Oklahoma. Throw the house at him and throw in a foreclosed mansion in the foothills for good measure.

The only way Arizona saves face is overpaying somebody.

Jamie Dixon

At this point I think anyone thinking Dixon wants to move west, or at least to the Pac-10, should retire that rumor. He's received the hard press from ASU and (presumably) UA. ASU had big money (for ASU) on the table. He must like Pittsburgh a lot. I don't blame him because he was handed a healthy program and didn't have to reinvent the recruiting process. *shrug*

I am pretty sure they were COMPLETELY kidding about DA..

There is no way, even dreaming, they would expect Mike to leave New York and move to Tucson to coach a college team..

Not to mention he would have to Deal with Sarver and Kerr all over again, though NO AMOUNT of money would keep me from seeing that saga first hand..

You know what.. I am officially on the UofA should hire Mike D'Antoni.. That would be high comedy! Who can I call to make this happend??

No kidding. Just pointing out it's difficult to imagine a scenario in which Arizona could flip its fortune the way Alabama football did. Saban not only was an NFL coach, he already had an NCAA championship on his resume. Even with his ridiculous inflated salary you feel confident you'll get your money's worth.

There's just no one out there like that for UA that I can think of, even if they had Top 3 money on the table.
