The reality is this for Darnell (and Q, and Adrian for that matter):

He is under contract for at least three more years. If he doesnt show up for mandatory events, he is fined and that can be withheld from game checks.

If he wants to create any market value whatsoever -- he has to play at a high level. Sitting out games for a variety of "injuries" or what not will not create market value for him.

They can agitate, ask for trades, badmouth the organization, etc -- none of that will change their contractual status and what they need to do to create the demand for the next big contract.

All this angst about contracts is a waste of mental energy.

Dockett and Boldin aren't in similar situations. Boldin has more of a gripe since the team wasn't offering him a lot of guaranteed money.

I don't support what Dockett's doing right now, but the fan "indignation" is really pretty ridiculous. Do you know how many of these guys can barely walk by the time they're 45? They have a very limited timeframe to make a lot of money doing what amounts to donating their bodies and their health for our entertainment. Asking to renegotiate a contract he just signed is ridiculous, but get off your high horses. They make as much as the market will bear, and they're essentially taking years off of their life to entertain you. If your skills were in high demand, you'd be trying to jack up your salary at every possible opportunity. Don't get bitter at the players because they have leverage over their employers and you don't.

I agree, nor do I support Dockett's idiocy. The thing is I am more inclined to believe lineman are ultimately where teams are successful, 2 great WR's are nice, but you only really need 1 stud. To me it's a huge turning point in whether the Cardinals care about winning or keeping around fan favorites.

It happens every spring.

You can create a template out of "Extension/Tear Up the Contract" news stories and plug in the name of any player you want.

And then the fans will be caught up in it all and the halls will echo with shouts of "Cut him!" "Sit Him!" or "Trade Him!"

There will always be some players who want to undo deals they just made. There will always be owners who will try to get as much for a ticket as the market will bear. Some of it's for real. Most of it is theater.

It's the American Way.

Leave it up to the accountants and lawyers to feed their ulcers. Come Fall, I just want to know (a) who's lining up out there and (b) how well they play.

It's a nice 70-degree day outside here in the Northeast - a much better day for catching a few rays, sipping a frosty Marguerita, listening to some tunes and contemplating what our secondary will be like with Cromartie back there - than it will be worrying about whether or not D-Dock or any other Cardinal is being greedy.

Guy's it is his agent driving all of these contract extentions. Drew R. rally has gone to the well to many times that it is becoming a joke around the league. Let Dock. Have a few more years like last year and the Cardinals will reward him handsomly.

Jeff, well put. I don't sweat the histrionics anymore.

Come the end of July, we'll see who wants to play and who doesn't. In the meantime, it does provide some diversion.

Dockett is also really peeving me. He is a great player and as long as he continues to play hard and we win. That being said in my Madden 2008 Franchise mode I have already traded Fitz and Dockett for the 2009 season for draft picks.

Wow.... I just traded Edge for Cleveland's 1st rounder in 2010. Watch out.... Warner is going to retire at the end of the 09 season.

I also traded for Sean Taylor in his honor. Him with A-Dub is fun to see on Madden.

I agree. To put things in perspective,my wife is exec asst. to Wendy's CEO. The CEO is going to be replaced and was given 21 million to NOT WORK next year. Whereas, she would've been paid about 4 million to work. So football players getting as much as they can shouldn't shock anyone and i don't blame them.

I know it must be hard for a player to sign a long term contract, and then see salaries escalate, i.e. Calvin Pace. And to make matters worse, DD has, at least last year, out performed his contract. He doesn't have many options, other than to complain. I think the team recognizes his value but until they sign Dansby, and free up some Cap money there isn't anything to be done. And we all know Q is our first concern, but DD is a superstar in the making IMO. Dansby is the key, and since he will make $8M this year, he's probably in no hurry to get a deal done. IMO, we should let him know that we HAVE to get a contract finalized or simply cut him. As good as he is, you can't let him hold the team hostage. Do we have any LB's to take his place? Can Harrington play ILB? Is Highsmith big enough? I see Beisel more a replacement for Hayes, and a short yardage specialist, and probaly doesn't have the "range" to play the Dansby role. If the team cuts Dansby during training camp, I doubt any team can pick him up and pay close to $8M. DD is more valuable than KD. JMO.
