From a NYPost.com article;

Spoilerish themes for Seasons 4,5 and 6 from Lindelof (nothing major);

"Season 4 is about who gets off the island and the fact that they need to get back. Season 5 is about why they need to get back, and season 6 is about what happens when they get back."

Lindehof and Cuse were only supposed to do 8 episodes of "Lost." Now that the writers' strike is over, they'll do 13. Episode 7 will conclude with a cliff-hanger, after which the show will take a month-long break. "There will be very significant mysteries answered in the seventh episode," says Cuse. "The eighth episode is non-traditional and the start of something new."

Great episode.

I really dig the Daniel Faraday character.

Yeah. He is pretty cool.

I REALLY enjoyed the Desmond/Penny story. I've always liked Desmond's character, but tonight made me love it even more. I actually almost shed a tear. I mean, between Desmond begging for her to give him a number, he and Penny chatting on the phone on Christmas Eve and him thanking Sayid, well, geesh. I almost cried.

Really love this show. Can't wait to learn more about this time thing.

I did not see the credits, was that Fisher Stevens that dies?

Very "Back to the Future" theme applied to this episode. They really appear to be swinging towards the alternate dimension/time travel storyline. That was one of the best episodes yet, right up there with not resetting the 108 minute clock.

Yeah it was Fischer Stevens. Good character on tv.

Funny you make the Back to the Future comment because when Desmond met the past-Daniel I commented that Daniel was acting very Doc Brown.

IMO this was one of the best episodes of the show.

Though my biggest gripe is still out there about not answering questions while continuing to bring in new plot lines. Of course the answer to that is that the series is planned for "x" amount of episodes and eventually those questions will be answered.

By diving further into the time/dimension phase, they are plotting several answers. Like why the island cannot be seen or picked up on radar. Traveling between dimensions causes some sort of illness in some people. It killed the mouse in it's experiment.

Daniel definitely was Doc Brown-esque in his role. Desmond's character is almost as good as Ben.

'The others' are not effected by the time distortion I would say. They come and go as they please.

Explains why they knocked Juliet out as well. Of course getting onto the island isn't as hard as getting off the island.

I waited 24 hours to see if anyone would drop this. I don't want to be the uber-geek here constantly looking for easter eggs. This one I stumbled upon because my wife demands we use the captions:

When Desmond went to find Penny's father to get her new contact information, the auction was for Torvald/Torbad (sp?) Hanso's diary. Magnus Hanso was the captain of the Black Rock. Alvar Hanso was Magnus' great-grandson, and the arms dealer who created the Hanso Foundation, the primary funding for the DHARMA Initiative. Penny's father, Mr. Widmore, is the head of the corporation that produces the pregnancy tests used by three of the women in the island. Widmore Corporation was also written on the hot air baloon used by Henry Gale. In his office he has a picture of a polar bear and another of Buddha.

As the father and Desmond met at the door, the auctioneer mentioned a copy of a Charles Dickens book that was on someone's -- presumably Torvald Hanso -- at his death. Desmond is determined to read Dickens' Our Mutual Friend moments before he dies.

Just watched the episode last night. WOW. That was the episode we've been waiting for!

Few things:
Time is not just slightly off as previously thought--it's really off. A 20 minute helo ride took 36 hours on the island.

Why doesn't Julia know what's happening. In one of the earlier episodes she seemed to know that anyone trying to sail off the island wouldn't be successful. She knows more than what she's letting on.

Could all of the flashbacks and flashforwards be "real" and not just devices used to tell the story? I don't think so, but it's an interesting thing to think about.

Mr. Widmore bid on the 1st mate's log from the Black Rock (the old ship that's on the island).

Why did Penny start looking for Des 4 years ago? Is that when he disappeared, or did something else happen? How does Penny know about the island? If she was expecting a call on xmas eve 2004, why the hell did she let it ring so long? (that last one was a joke)

If you remember it was because of that sailboat race...Des has been on the island for around 4 years. He was there 3 years before the crash pushing the button.

Here's another question that I can't remember the answser to: What happened to all of the Others? Where are they?

I'm assuming you mean "Juliet", not Julia, and if you are, then I agree. But then again, she knows there are definitely ways off the island, specific headings, so maybe she assumed Frank's heading was the correct one.

Could all of the flashbacks and flashforwards be "real" and not just devices used to tell the story? I don't think so, but it's an interesting thing to think about.
Now THAT is an interesting theory.

Mr. Widmore bid on the 1st mate's log from the Black Rock (the old ship that's on the island).

That was from the collection of Tuvard Hanso, probably the son or grandson of the captain of the Black Rock, and the father or grandfather of Alvar Hanso, founder of the Dharma Initiative.

Why did Penny start looking for Des 4 years ago? Is that when he disappeared, or did something else happen? How does Penny know about the island? If she was expecting a call on xmas eve 2004, why the hell did she let it ring so long? (that last one was a joke)

I believe the timing is a little off. Des was on the island for 3 years before the plane crash, and the survivors have been on the island for 3 months. Of course, with this time stuff, EVERYBODY'S numbers could be waaaay off, including Penny's.

Here's another question that I can't remember the answser to: What happened to all of the Others? Where are they?

In Season 3, Ben told them to continue going to "the temple", wherever that is. Jack and Juliet talk about the temple in the promo for next week's episode, so we might find out soon.

The submarine makes even more sense now as well. If they are in the submarine they don't have to worry about thunderstorms that might throw a boat, airplane, or helicopter a little off course.

Here's one thing I think they messed up on a little bit. I believe there have been four episodes about Desmond. Chronologically they would be...

1. The one where he was trying to become a monk, and he meets Penelope Whitmore at the end.

2. The one that explains what happened to him when he blew the hatch. He flashes back to the point in time where he is moving in with Penelope. He plans to ask her to marry him, but the old lady in the ring shop tells him he can't.

3. This past episode where he is in the Royal Scots camp. In fact in #2 after he leaves the ring shop he sees the Royal Scots recruiting office and stops to look at a poster that says something like "become a man you can be proud of".

4. The final episode of season 2. He meets Libby and gets the boat from her. It basically tells everything from when he got out of the military prison until the survivors open the hatch.

And, so here's my question. In this last episode why does he seem so clueless about the island? He remembered it in #2, and that's why he broke things off with Penelope. I can understand him being disoriented and freaking out when all of a sudden he's on the helicopter, but he acts as if he has absolutely no recollection of the island.

His past consciousness took the place of his future consciousness and existed between two timelines. His future consciousness is locked up somewhere internally in his future self's recesses of his brain.

Dude, this is sci fi. ;)

Right, in his mind, it was 1996. It was cool how he shifted back and forth from time to time and had immediate memory of what happened. One good point however, wouldn't Penny have been waiting for that phone call? I think they over dramatized with the time it took her to answer.

Okay, I just saw this episode again as my attendant this morning had not seen it yet. The preview for next week shows Charlotte and Daniel at a computer that is flashing some sort of alarm. Juliet is pointing a gun at them telling them to stop what they're doing, and Charlotte says she'll have to kill them to get them to stop.

I've always wondered about the whole "pushing the button to save the world" thing. It just kind of seemed ridiculous to me that the electromagnetic force on the island could somehow destroy the world. So here's what I'm thinking. They've never talked much about the sickness on the island that forced Danielle to kill her crew. She said she couldn't risk that it got off the island if they were rescued or found a way to leave. What if the problem is that the people on the freighter are after this sickness or will unintentionally take it off the island. Pushing the button would be of the utmost importance because without the electromagnetic anomaly the freighter would not find the island.

I don't know. I think I'm watching this show and thinking about it a little too much. :)

Well, I think it's valid to bring up the sickness issue. It has been mentioned every season I believe, yet we've never really actually seen the effects of it. Not with the Losties and not with the Others. The only clues we have is Danielle's story and other people asking around if any of their people had gotten sick. As far as I can tell, the only medical issue on the show has been the pregnancy one.

Just some random thoughts I had pn the drive in this morning:

If time on the island is so much slower (20 minute helo ride on the outside is 36 hours on the inside), how is Kate going to explain a 2 year old kid when they've only been gone a fraction of that time)?

Also, If Penny started looking for Des when he disappeared, it either wouldn't have been 4 years to her or Des (less for her or more for Des).
