Lower Bowl Fans Suck

So tonight I was lucky enough to get great tickets to the Suns game. My uncle, a season ticket holder gave my mom and I his tickets because his son was under the weather.

I was sitting in section 113, row 16, and I was furious w/ the fans. I cant tell you how many times I was told to "sit down" after cheering for a good play (I often get most excited about little things like a nice box out or offensive board). An older lady (late 60s probably) in front of me was on her feet nearly the entire game cheering her heart out and people kept yelling at her family and my mom and I to sit down. I eventually couldnt take it and yelled back "stand up! There's no sitting in Conference Finals." It was miserable the entire first half, no one would stand (apparently its only time to stand during commercials- wtf?).

Eventually after being sworn at to sit down by one guy for the FIFTH time, I turned to him and said "stand up or go home, the team doesn't need you here." The guy then proceeded to threaten to punch both my mother and I out if we didn't sit down. I informed the usher to keep an eye on him, and the guy shut his mouth the rest of the night.

Next Suns game I go to, I want to be back up in the upper bowl w/ the real fans.

The preppies are just there to be seen.
They are PATHETIC examples of fandom.

This is one of the reasons why I dont even bother trying to get lower level seats anymore.

You've got to be kidding me...I'd tell him to shut up, it's a Suns game...stand the hell up.

I always sit in the lower bowl - and have a hell of a time. People sometimes tell you to sit down, but it isn't like that doesn't happen in the upper bowl either.

A lot of people sitting in the first 5 rows are probably the most enthusiastic about the game. Just watch Jeffrey Phillips for a while.

Every game you have real fans, and people that just go to the game but don't want to cheer. I would say it is spread pretty evenly throughout the arena.

I brought this up just the other day...

This is what happens when you have a band wagon, rich person crowd (lower level mostly). I get sick of seeing all these corporate types and their trophy wives attending these games, probably just to be "seen"... how many women do you see walking around the arena in tight, skimpy, "clubbing" attire, with 6 inch heels. Yeah, real big Suns fans I'm sure. Sad, but true.

A similar thing happend to me in the upper section. Funny thing was when right when the person behind me told me to sit down Cedric called for everyone to get on their feet.

If you want a good view and not cheer you can watch the game on TV.

I should also note, these fans would clap and stand during the commercials/time outs. Thats fine and all but its really pointless. Why stand and cheer all timeout and go silent once the Mavs inbound the ball? If you are going to do anything, do just the opposite.

This is true of the Blazers too. I yell and yell, but they tell me to sit down and shutup. It also may be that I'm yelling for the Suns (I only go when the Suns come to town.)

I am serious though that I think this happens all across the NBA. It's a status thing, it's bound to happen with the price of those tickets. It's sad.

Which is one reason why I say God bless Robert Sarver. He may look like a fool 'cause he's a multi-millionaire and he jumps around like a squirrel on crank, but at least he tries to set an example to the rest of the high-end rollers. Next time someone in the lower section tells you to "sit down" just point to Sarver and say "look what our owner is doing. Maybe you should follow suit and learn a thing about passion, you tool!"

NBA To Review Incident In Stands With Mavs Coach's Wife

ESPN - The NBA will investigate the incident involving Avery Johnson's wife and two fans which occured during Game 4 in Phoenix, ESPN.com is reporting.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and reserve center DJ Mbenga, who was inactive and in street clothes for Game 4, entered the stands late in the first quarter after Cassandra Johnson, got into a dispute with two Suns fans.

Cuban and Mbenga were joined by team security coordinator Jim Colleran in a section overlooking the Mavs' bench to check on Cassandra Johnson. A misdemeanor assault complaint was reportedly later filed by the fans against Johnson for allegedly shoving and swearing at them.

It was not immediately known if Cuban or Mbenga are facing sanction from the league for going into the stands. NBA spokesman Brian McIntyre said the incident would be reviewed by the league office Wednesday.

It was not immediately clear whether the actions of an owner and/or an inactive player would be interpreted similarly.

Cuban tried to downplay the incident at halftime, calling it "a non-event."

This is a huge reason that I have adopted the HDTV route of fan appreciation, rather than going to the games. I am yelling at my TV screen, calling out every travel, non-call, and great play.

If I were ever kicked out of a Suns game, for being cheering on my team too much, I might lose all interest in the team. I would never want that to happen.

I've mentioned my bad experiences with Suns fans before, but I'll repeat it here.

My dad had season tickets to the Suns like all the way back to 1986. Some of my first really great memories are sitting around incredibly rowdy fans at the Madhouse.

We continued our seats into AWA, and at that point were able to sit fairly close to the floor, in what I remember to be Section 112. The first Barkley season was awesome, the fans rocked that place. Then the price of tickets went up, and the diehards got replaced by the snobs. We kept those seats for another 2 years, but the games were no longer close to fun. We were directly behind an old, cranky guy, that would come to the game in the 2nd QTR, and leave early in the 4th. The whole time, he would read, and get really ticked if people around him cheered. Myself and my brothers were ravid fans, and when the Suns did good we'd explode. He'd often tell us, "that is enough cheering, it's just a stupid game." My dad never said anything, and to this day I still don't know why.

We dropped the tickets before the '96 season. Me and my brother went to the home opener like 6 years later, paid $85 a piece for the seat. Some strange coincidence occured, and we were right next to that cranky old guy again. Without my dad there to stop us, we went nuts cheering. He gave us looks, and I went off on him. I told him maybe he should save his money and go read at a Library. Then the Usher came down and asked me why I was making so much noise. I told him about the old man. Then the usher told me that the Lower Bowl caters to certain fans, and that if I wanted to cheer, I could relocate myself to the Upper Deck.

I left. Wrote letters to everyone I could think of. Never heard anything back. This is an organization that our family supported through the drug years, and they couldn't give us the courtesy of telling us why they wished to alienate their diehards like this. I don't forget or forgive quickly, I detest the Suns to this day.

I've decided that I'll just take my basketball entertainment dollar to Wells Fargo Arena. Sure, it may be empty and the Devils suck....but me and my family have an absolute blast. And that is what going to a game is all about to me. Having a good time, and sharing some passion with the players on the field.

Winning teams are a great side effect of being a fan. A winning team should not be the reason you are a fan. 3/4s of the games I've attended, my team has been below .500. And I've cheered my guts out all game, everygame.

I sympathize with your bad experiences but ....

I dont hold the suns organization responsible for as_ho_e fans, and I wont let any jerk ruin my chance to see the best in competitive team sports played at the highest levels. I'd rather watch the suns at home on TV than let someone take my sports experience away with confrontation and anger. Thats what sport is all about, enjoying competitive team play. A blowout every now and then is OK(a relief for a suns fan), but I prefer the close games, they're more exciting and bring the best out in the players. Its also nice to watch players develop and the team work mature with challenges. This years suns have produced one of the best "team efforts" in sport in the last decade, its a pity that some jerks ruined it all for you many years ago.

I am calling from outside US and I wanna tell you one thing. If you give me chance to support Suns live I'll scream as hell. More, if you give me chance to support Suns vs Stack or Terry I'd be crazy (sorry for my conditionals).

Hope to see Suns in NBA Finals. Don't worry then. We will run them out of them shoes! (Remember that 1st quarter?!)

They greatest sports experience of my life was sitting on the floor for a game against the Rockets. It was a little past half court so at times the ref would setup right in front of me and block my view, but do you have any idea how great it is to complain to the ref and him actually respond.

They were always really cool about it and makes jokes every time I complained like "I didnt see any blood".

They blew a call at the end of the game and I actually took 3 steps on the court yelling my head off before my brother in law grabbed me. I just said "the games over what are they gonna do????" They were at the other end of the court and didnt even see me so it didn't matter.

I agree the lower bowl sucks...I see Sarver trying to get the arena loud. I say you take a section 4 people wide and 7 rows deep right behind the away bench and upgrade people coming into the arena that you can tell are just nuts. Like the student section at a college game no sitting down. NOBODY will want to play in Phoenix.
