I guess I'm the only one that saw this......?

4. Corey Maggette, Clippers: Maggette has been on the trading block for years and appears eager to bolt the Clippers. He's making $7 million next season and should be due a raise.

Teams will be out in force trying to get him, but most will have only the midlevel exception to offer -- which would mean he'd be taking a pay cut. A sign-and-trade is the most likely option, with the Phoenix Suns looking like the team most interested in him. They could offer a swap of Leandro Barbosa that may interest L.A.

Umm - I would do that in a second

That trade was proposed before the draft with the Clippers including the #7 as well. It was shot down as bogus about a week after the rumors appeared, so this might just be some rehashing of the same rumor.

Except then you read the article and realize that its a round up of the best free agents and written AFTER the draft and then realize it also includes a sign a trade which would have nothing to do with #7.

Check the link my man;)

The Suns really need another SG/ SF that can shoot and hopefully fill some other needs like ball handling and defense.

Dude, I read the damn thing. If you can't see that it's just a tweaking of the same freaking rumor I don't know what to tell you.

Magette and Hill will have similar styles.

The Suns really need a shooter at the SF.

Mike Miller, he doesnt deserve to be on that losing team when contending teams like the Suns can use him.

Posey also.

As rumoured before, Jarred Hayes from the Pistons can come in handy. He can stroke the 3, reminds me of Jimmy Jackson circa 2004 Suns team.

Unfortunately I think the Suns plan is to wait and see who is left.

Barbosa is the Suns primary trading piece. IMHO, he should not be traded except for clear cut need such as a full fledged point guard. Maggette's a very good player (against the Suns at least), but I'd rather fill a high level need.

So hayes shoots 46% from 3 and plays terrible defense at the wing? Jimmy was a terrible defender, couldnt move his feet on the ball at all.

I agree. They'll let everybody else pick the quarters and dimes off the top leaving us to pick thru the nickels & pennies.....pennies......pennies.....pennies........pinching.......pennies........:bang:

I can't help it but this deserves a big laugh. I like it. I mean the way you put it.

I agree about the need to sign a James Jones type player. However the Suns would need to lose some salary somewhere. I think there is a need to make a trade with Diaw and/or LB but the Suns need to get a player and at least a first round pick in return.

By the way I like the quote under your signature. It says a lot.

But for the life of me, I can't imagine why someone would want to own an NBA team if he cared more about breaking even than winning a championship. What's the point? Anyway, if I were fortunate enough to own an NBA team, I would never, ever, EVER favor my pockets over a chance at a title. It's like going to Vegas for a guy's weekend and refusing to lose more than $100. Why even go then? Just stay home.-Bill Simmons

I would hate this trade. Barbs is healthier, younger, and has more upside. He also produces on a more consistent basis.

He is our best trading piece, but now that the draft is over, I'd just as soon keep him.

LB is presently one of my favorite Suns player (besides Nash) because of his personality. I would hate to trade him as well. However, his skills and small contract make him attractive to another team. Also it was widely speculated Diaw and LB were being shopped before the draft. If the Suns are indeed substantially over the LT, I can still see some kind of push for a trade. I would be much more willing to work out a trade for Diaw if anyone had an interest.

I'd love to have Maggette and wouldn't think twice about giving up Barbosa for him, but with the Clippers trying to re-sign Elton Brand and add Baron Davis, they have to cut ties with Maggette to stay far enough under the cap to make legitimate offers to both. We could use the Kurt Thomas trade exception to absorb Maggette's contract without sending anything but a draft pick back to LA, but I doubt they'd do us that favor without getting something out of it--like maybe trading them Barbosa for Tim Thomas.

And, if we use the trade exception, we're going even further above the cap unless we find a way to dump other salary. So, no Corey Maggette, unfortunately.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Maggette is now a FA. Please correct me if I'm wrong. He opted out as someone posted already.

Congrats on being the only one to see a rehashed rumor...

He has also stated he wants to stay in LA, so the rest of the paragraph is conjecture with no basis.

You'd think ESPN would put some quality behind their rumor fabrication, but they are no better than local sports reporters.

I suggested Jones in another thread. As far as I can tell, he opted out in Portland because he could count their number of SF's and decided it wasn't worth the bother.

Why MIGHT he come to the Suns even for not much money?

1. He is mostly a role player and may not attract a lot of money in free agency. A year ago the Suns had to pay to unload him at under $3 million.

2. He knows the team and the system. It may be al lot more comfortable for him (I don't know that, it's just a possibilty).

3. There is some long range opportunity since Hill is 36. Also, he's played some as a small ball PF.

4. In two years the Suns will have lots of cap space, so locking into the Suns with a two year deal would give him added value because they'd have Bird rights in additon to thei cap space.
