But are they better then Butler?
Probably.

Again, I want to parse my words if Butler's dealing with some family stuff, but that guy was slow as could be when he was a rookie (a 24 year old rookie). He was the highest targeted CB in the league last year, and gave up the most receptions.

Our secondary is pretty terrifying, but I frankly don't think Butler had anything left. The guy entered the league running a 4.7, and is only slowing down. He was pretty mediocre with the Pats besides the one big moment. No Titans fan is missing him.

Keim has been holding the CB position together with free agent band aids for way too long. Eventually it was going to backfire, which it appears to be now. This secondary is one Alford injury away from having Daryl Worley playing meaningful snaps, which is far from good.

That's why you need to draft and develop CBs, which are two things this team hasn't really done in the last 20 years. PP and DRC were good to great, but they were also mid to high first round picks. I am still not sold on Murphy, although I realize most are. Beyond those 3, it's bleak. You have to go back to Greg Toler and Renaldo Hill to find corners drafted by the Cardinals after the first 33 picks of the draft who amounted to anything.

I think it is a little unfair to start saying he is mad for not being a starter (if he is not). Personal issues can be many things, and I for one am hoping that he solves them – whatever they are.

For the on-the-field related, I earlier suggested a trade for cornerback C.J. Henderson from the Jaguars, and in my mind that should be more relevant than ever.

Daryl Worley right now

Really though, I don't know how some people can say "Malcolm Butler sucks. He's never been good. Our CB room is bad" and now say "Oh no. This is a disaster. Our season is over if Butler retires".

If he retires there are guys out there. Quinton Dunbar for one.

The starting 2 were looking like Alford and Murphy anyway so let Wilson play slot. Murphy started his rookie year and frankly Wilson has looked more impressive than rookie Murphy so far. And Murphy played as a rookie with Tremaine freaking Brock.

Alford, Murphy, Wilson is still better than most starting trio's we have had recently.

That is a STUNNING indictment of how much we've neglected the position and is in no way a good thing.

Scrubbed Cards from social media . .
Cards said: "yeah..we'll be needing that money back"
Butler: "Snakes in the Grass"

Uh huh.

I think it's exactly what's stated as personal and something far more personal than playing football. If his current mindset is retiring, well he never played an official down of regular season with the Cards so that makes sense he removed Cardinal related material from his social media and does not exactly mean it's a issue with the franchise. It's not like the guy was never a recognized pro, so he does not need to express a team he never had a down with which counted like a college kid who got a tryout but did not make a team. I just hope he and his family are alright and wish the best for whatever is casting a shadow on him

Utter bunk. Sorry Jetstream, but if you're in the middle of something personal that's so impactful you're contemplating retirement, the absolute last thing on your mind is scrubbing your freaking social media accounts of your current team. You would expect him to do so eventually, once life settles down for him, IF he does retire, but not in the midst of whatever the crisis is.

The more I read, the more suspicious I become. If Joseph's toying with the starters by pretending Alford is going to be our starter caused this, then to hell with Joseph and to hell with Butler for the butthurt response.

If this truly is the end, then the Cards need to hit the phones for a player like Marshon Lattimore. Sell the farm if need be.

Gilmore may still be an option.

CJ Henderson may not. They just traded Sidney Jones back to Seattle.

Cuts probably wont give us much to look at on the outside.

Gilmore is still on PUP & will arguably miss the first 6 weeks. There’s gotta be other CBs that are young & possibly have potential that you guys know. Gilmore ain’t happening.

People are panicking way too much over this.

1. Butler may not retire.
2. If he does he wasn't looking like starting anyway.
3. When we signed him we hadn't drafted 2 CB's. One of which looks pretty decent.
4. There are FA options available that can fill that role. No need to sell the farm on a trade.

It's not ideal but not the end of the world.

Moreover we are a not a great cb away from being a contender

I think the issue is that he was told he was not gong to be a starter. Why else would he clear out the Cardinal pictures from his site. I'm seeing some tweets from football insiders saying that this is a Cardinals/Butler issue not family. Cardinals have kept silent on this.

Quinton Dunbar is the best CB available. Frankly, I'm not sure there's a drop off from Butler.

He did not do well in Seattle last year but obviously had some issues with that scheme (as did the whole defense) but he had an 87 PFF for Washington the year before and is still only 29.

Not exactly silent.

According to Josina Anderson, the Cardinals learned of this turn of events just a couple of days ago and that the organization doesn’t “have a clue” what is behind it.
