Instead of Western Conference Player of the Week, they need to rename it Phoenix Suns Player of the Week.

The interesting thing about Marion is he is always this good, you just don't notice it because somehow he does what he does quietly. Normally, you will look in the box score after the game is over and Marion will have "quietly" put up 20pts, 12rbs, 5assists, and 2 steals, and 2 blocks. It is unreal.

Marion's been awesome. He's been the engine that drives the Suns fastbreaks. I wonder how long he can keep this up, though. Is there a wall he hits after so many games playing out of position? Is he going to be more susceptible to injury? I'll be more impressed if he's putting up these kinds of numbers in April.

I wasn't a Suns fan until this year and I've always though Marion was awesome (except for the way he shoots.. it's funny!). I thought Marion has long hands and is quick.

Marion may be the most versatile player on the team. :) He does almost anything and everything. Sounds like Pippen #2 to me. I like.

Now, the question is... who is going to be the Player of the Month? LOL

I heard D'Antoni talkiing about this and he said Shawn wears out the opposing PF's not the other way around.

I think its a lot easier than chasing some player like Carmelo all over creation for 40 minutes.

You'd think a lot more players would post him up but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Yeah... I've heard some argument that it's actually better for Marion because he doesn't need to chase other players around and try to get through the screens.

It's true that Marion is undersize but he has very long arms and he is quick enough to cause opposing PF some troubles. And since Marion is a PF, he also causes some mis-matches for other PFs. :) I don't think Duncan can catch up Marion... hehe Marion can easily run to get open and Duncan will have to stay inside. Is this why Marion has so many fast break points 'cause other PFs can't stay with him?

The only player that needs major adjusting is Amare. It seems like other teams know how to get Amare into foul trouble and it has frustrated him very bad. I hope he'll get out of it.

Good for Shawn, I always felt like he was an underrated player and he's finally getting some recognition. I know he was an all-star 2 years ago, but a lot of people around the country didn't feel like he deserved it. Still the only reason any of the Suns are getting these awards is because of thier record. If they were 7-17 then they wouldn't be mentioned.

To me, you have to have good record in order to get recognition. It doesn't matter how good your stats is if your team is not winning. And since Suns is winning, almost everyone got recognized. :)

Lately I haven't heard many comments about how overpaid Marion is.

When I heard that Marion was going to be on the Olympic team, I predicted he would follow with a career year. Playing for Larry Brown was great for his defensive skills and his summer workouts against LeBron, Carmelo, etc. was great preparation.

Who said Marion is overpaid?

Well, I know I've always liked Marion. I thought he is very active and he plays really hard. He fits really well in this Suns' team because we need people like him to run fast breaks, steal the ball and rebound and occassionally shoot Threes. hehe

Almost everyone on this board has said the Marion was overpaid at one time or another and found fault with his game. Shooting too many 3's, spending too much time far from the paint, not taking it strong to the hoop in the half court, avoiding contact, too easy to get in the air with a fake, gambling for steals too often. A very common statement was that he couldn't create his own shot which baffled me because he always created quite a few short/midrange jumpers with his drives. But they weren't shots that he'd get to the line with - maybe that's what was meant. My own special complaint was that he didn't work the baseline - and I'd still like to see him do it much more.

I suspect we'll see more baseline backdoor plays as teams start trying to defend the corners. It's hard for most PF's to try to defense Marion so they just hope he'll miss his jumpers. Didn't work for the Wizards.

I don't know devilalum. I was with you until that last statement. Almost everybody posts up Shawn Marion. I'm hard pressed to think of a power forward who hasn't posted up Shawn Marion repeatedly. In fact even in years past many of the small forwards did it..

Of course for the most part I don't worry about it much anymore. The small lineups have seemed to work well for the Suns. I worry much more about Amare's defense or lack thereof.
