Eight more players and two coaches with the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19, as an outbreak has spread throughout their clubhouse and brought the total of cases in recent days to at least 14, sources familiar with the situation tell me and @JesseRogersESPN.

This is going to create a huge mess

I don’t see anyway MLB allows the Marlin’s to play

So what did you do with their schedule?

It would not be fair to teams in the west or central to have those games counted as forfeit wins

Can't penalize the teams in their schedule either. Certainly the league had a plan for something like this happening?

The Marlins' home opener against the Baltimore Orioles tonight has been canceled, sources tell ESPN, as the team remains in Philadelphia and continues to undergo testing.

Sources: The Phillies are quarantining their entire visiting clubhouse staff after exposure to the Marlins this weekend. Some were tested yesterday and waiting for results. Yankees brought their own clubhouse staff to Philly last night.

Official tally: There are 9 Marlins players from their 30-man roster who are positive (5 new ones) plus 5 “others” with team, which includes coaches and other employees. So 14 in their traveling party, which is actually not currently traveling and instead stuck in Philly.

Since the outbreak has been confined to the Marlins thus far, there’s been no serious discussion at this point about pausing/suspending the season. Marlins-Orioles game tonight is canceled and Phillies-Yankees game may well be canceled as well. But that’s it to this point.

MLB and especially the players Were being narrow minded when they rejected a bubble concept

Hearing Marlins are out there looking for extra MLB quality players. Obviously they have a lot of concerns but one of them is fielding a representative team.

Speculation is that 4 players that tested positive for COVID-19 played in yesterday’s game.

Baseball is a microcosm of society.

We are nowhere near resuming normal life.

Because of politics, the U.S. has been the
least successful country in the world to
reverse the trend of the pandemic.

We are all prisoner to it.

Marlins remain in Philadelphia. One of previous team members to test positive had a subsequent test come back negative, source says. Would need two negatives at least 24 hours apart to become eligible to return.

Marlins may have hard time filling out 30-man active roster considering their outbreak of positives. Currently trying to figure out how to make it work since many candidates for callup are currently are not on 40-man. Might — might — have to consider playing with less than 30.
