Oh, I get that. I was thinking about how NFL teams have joint practices and the coaches confer and agree to work on certain things. You scratch my back I’ll scratch yours kind of thing.

I have no idea if this happens during summer league but there wouldn’t be anything unethical about doing it.

I agree and could see the benefit, but I think teams are too wrapped up in what they themselves are doing for that to really be a likely possibility.

One thing I was wondering about after the game was over was how many of our players have even played with a dominant big. It's not the same as playing with a dominant shooter or wing.

Feeding the ball inside to Ayton is something our players will need to get used to. Dropping the ball down low to see him create something from the post isn't exactly common in modern basketball. I'm sure everyone will come around with time but after watching the NBA for that last decade and seeing every successful team play much differently than they had in the 90's or even the early 2000's, it might take some time to adjust.

Inside out basketball can make a comeback but it won't happen over night. Thankfully Ayton isn't that limited like a Shaq type big where he can only be effective in the paint so if things aren't working inside he can step out some and make something happen closer to the 3pt line. I hope we can see Ayton develop some post moves soon that are dependable.

The Suns haven't had anyone who could score consistently from the post since Amare. Seeing him get the ball and spin around a defender before barreling to the basket is something the NBA hasn't seen a lot of in the last decade but I think Ayton has the skills to pull it off somewhat easily.

I enjoy what you write poop head, but could you break up your text a bit more? Makes for an easier read.

Hmm I disagree wholeheartedly. He impacted the game greatly.

First he was a defensive presence at the rim. Not consistently enough yet, but more than we’ve had in a while. My father and I were speaking about the game last night and one of our first comments was “not a lot of walks to the basket by Dallas unlike in years past.”

Second, the Mavs were doubling him. Where do you think those 12 made three pointers came from? Part was a more disciplined movement-based offense. Part was the defense sagging in Ayton.

Finally, it’s difficult to be disappointed in Ayton when our guards didn’t show much ability to feed the post other than a couple of obvious lob opportunities. QUOTE]

I didnt say I was disappointed in Ayton just the fact he wasnt targeted more offensely. I know there will be games where he's double teamed but he'll be seeing that during the regular season as well. I would like to see him force his will down in the post. He'll either get fouled putting him at the line or score. If its not there, pass it back out. Teams will figure out taking him out of the equation by doubling so he might as well learn now to use his size to his advantage.
I thought defensively he did fine other than getting pushed underneath the basket on some rebounds.

I think more than impose will he needs to learn the diagonal pass to the open three pointer. He’s a good passer. And he didn’t turn it over a lot passing out, but as one of the journalist pointed out he passed it primarily back to the feeder instead of the player that could drop the dagger. He’ll get there.

That's also on the other players to move into open space to give him a good target. I don't recall a whole lot of movement when the ball went into the post to Ayton.

They will play those two there. I think they need another backup center. Chandler should be done. He does not play quality minutes any more. Sauce would be OK if we can get him back.

If Chriss is in the plans I see him getting back up center minutes as well. Hopefully they can add William, but with that addition who would have to go?

Disappointed they werent instructed to feed Ayton down in the post more often. I wanted him to dominate this game and other than a couple lob feeds he really didnt impact this game. Looking forward to tonight.

Which is why having Knight at the PG position is a horrible plan, Ayton can't feed himself, they really need a distributor, not a score first guy, he needs a guy to feed him. You guys all hate him, but Ball would lob it all day to Ayton, and make the most of him, I don't care about his shooting. Now the Suns have a PG that can score but thats all he does, it will hurt the other players, in essence they will have 2 shooting guards on the floor

Exactly. With a high profile Center now on the team, we need skilled facilitators at Point Guard throughout the game.

I saw the post about how Knight would be a Point Guard only in bringing the ball up, then become a shooter with a bunch of OK distributors on the floor. 'Sounds like jacks-of-all-trade, masters-of-none. Personally, I'd rather see a starting and backup Point Guard skilled in facilitating (which includes building a routine of chemistry).

The thought of a Point Guard being more useful as a 3 & D player to open the floor isn't necessary when your brand new generational Center is being double-teamed right from the start. That opens the floor, doesn't it?
