Spring sports here in Branch County are upon us, as teams from across the county have kicked off their spring sports practices. With the end of another winter sports season in the books we say goodbye to some highly successful winter sports teams from across the area.
While no team advanced past the district championship this year there were still some solid efforts on the hardwood by Branch County’s best.
Coldwater, Union City, Quincy, and Tekonsha all finished their season’s with a tough loss in the district semifinals while Bronson dropped a first-round heartbreaker in the district tournament.
As we look back on the season that was, we cannot help but think about those who stood out on the court. That is why The Daily Reporter offers up each season its most valuable players, its all-area team, or our Dream Team, celebrating the top players from across the county.
Each prep season, The Daily Reporter sports staff selects its Dream Team members, those area players that we believe have shown great ability, leadership, and drive. Those athletes chosen are athletes who finished out the season in good standing with their respective teams and showed integrity and hard work all season long, both on and off the court. Coaches were consulted in the choosing of these teams, both First Team and Honorable Mention.
Meet the 2024-25 The Daily Reporter Boys Basketball Dream Team.
Coach Chard has been named The Daily Reporter Boys Basketball Dream Team Coach of the Year for the second straight season after leading the Chargers to a record of 15-9 overall and a tie for second place in the Big 8 conference. Chard, like every other team around the state, battled with injuries all season long, including long stretches of injury to two key members of his starting lineup. Despite the stretches of being short handed Union City continued to stay competitive and finished in a tie for second place in the Big 8 conference. Union City lost a heartbreaker to Centreville in the Division 3 District tournament to see their season end. Chard will really have his work cut out for him next season when he looks to replace his top three scorers and captains from this season, a new season that will see the Chargers only return one starter from the 24-25 team.
The Daily Reporter Boys Basketball Dream Team Most Valuable Player- Kam Brackett, G, Bronson, Sr. - Brackett averaged a county leading 20.9 points per game this season to go along with 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.0 steals a game, earning MVP honors based on a vote by The Daily Reporter sports staff.
