BRANCH COUNTY – It was a banner season for the girls basketball programs of Branch County as top to bottom teams put together amazing seasons.

Branch County had two district champions in Bronson and Coldwater, while the Vikings also claimed a share of the Big 8 conference championship. Bronson ran into a buzzsaw in the first round of regional play, falling to top ranked Niles Brandywine while Coldwater advanced to the regional finals before falling to DeWitt.

The three remaining teams in Branch County put together their best seasons in recent memory, with each surpassing last year’s win totals.

In all, it was a superb year for Branch County girls basketball, and for many it is sad to see it over with. But end all things must do, so we here at The Daily Reporter have decided to look back on the year that was and name our all-area team, or what we like to call The Daily Reporter Girls Basketball Dream Team.

Each prep season, The Daily Reporter sports staff selects its Dream Team members, those area players that we believe have shown great ability, leadership, and drive. Those athletes chosen are athletes who finished out the season in good standing with their respective teams and showed integrity and hard work all season long, both on and off the court. Coaches were consulted in the choosing of these teams, both First Team and Honorable Mention.

So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, we are happy to introduce to you the 2024-25 The Daily Reporter Girls Basketball Dream Team.

The Daily Reporter Girls Basketball Dream Team Coach of the Year: Tony Lasky, Bronson Vikings

Lasky led the Vikings to one of the best seasons in Bronson history, finishing the year with a record of 22-3 overall, including a 13-1 record in the Big 8 conference, giving the Vikings a share of the conference crown.

Lasky coached his Vikings to a 15-game winning streak to end the regular season before claiming a Division 3 District crown with a dominant win over Schoolcraft. The Lasky led Vikings received a terrible regional draw as they found themselves paired against one of the best in the state in Niles Brandywine in the regional semifinals. Bronson battled but dropped their second game of the season to Brandywine, this time by a score of 60-32.

Lasky saw two of his players earn Big 8 All Conference First Team honors while a third earned honorable mention, with Aubree Calloway being named Big 8 MVP for the 2024-25 season.

The Daily Reporter Girls Basketball Dream Team Most Valuable Player: Aubree Calloway, Guard, Bronson, Sr.

Calloway capped off a stellar four-year career with another banner season, leading the area in scoring with 18.4 points per game to go along with 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3.6 steals a contest on her way to being named Big 8 conference Most Valuable Player.

Calloway scored in double figures in all but one game this season, with a season high of 40 points scored in an early season win over Union City. The 40-point barrage for Calloway broke the previous Bronson High School record for most points scored in a single game, etching her name into the BHS record books.

Calloway will now take her talents to Spring Arbor University after scoring 1,424 career points, an average of nearly 15 points per game to go along with 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.6 steals a game through nearly 100 games played. Calloway was selected as the most valuable player of the 2024-25 season in a vote held by the sports writers of Gannett Media Group.
