New York will give up Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov, Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry's expiring contract, their own first round pick in 2014, Golden State's second round picks in 2012 and 2013, and $3 million in cash.

that's just a crap ton of talent for Melo. guts their team IMO.

whatever....glad its finally over.

Melo and STAT cannot both get the ball all of the time. It'll be interesting to see if this works or screws up what they were trying to build.

Not only is it a 3-way involving Minnesota, but there is talk that the Nets and Dallas are going to be involved in after-trades. And possibly Portland. So . . .

The Knicks are sending Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, the Knicks’ 2014 first-round pick, two second-round picks New York acquired from the Golden State Warriors in the David Lee sign-and-trade and $3 million.

The Knicks will also trade Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry’s expiring contract to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who will send Corey Brewer to the Nuggets. The Knicks will receive Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams and Renaldo Balkman.

The Nuggets want to reroute two Knicks to the New Jersey Nets as part of a separate deal, including Felton and Mozgov, sources said. The Nets badly want to get rid of Devin Harris and have discussed a three-team with Denver and Dallas that would send Harris to the Mavericks, and bring Felton and Mozgov to New Jersey, sources said.

The Nets are considering sending Harris and Troy Murphy to Portland for Andre Miller and Joel Przybilla, but sources say that deal’s on the backburner. New Jersey would prefer Felton over Miller, sources say.

No wonder it took so long.

Agreed. NY just crapped their future down the toilet..

I didn't see anything about melo HAVING to sign an extension.. Would be funny if he left the team after the season.. ~~ he'd probably get assassinated.

Does Denver see something in the draft they really like? I wonder why they want all these picks.. They almost got FOUR first round picks from NJ.

This is a great trade for Denver, they're getting a lot for Melo, plus it sounds like they may move Felton and Mozgov and get some more pieces or picks.

Rumors are going around that Isiah may be involved and convinced Dolan to do this move. D'Antoni and Walsh didn't want to gut the team and were perhaps waiting out this year and trying to get Anthony in the off season.

It'll be interesting to see if Billups is OK with this deal and decides to bite the bullet and be OK w/ playing w/ a team thats not Denver. Right now the Knicks are looking super thin, but they should be good enough to at least get out of the 1st round.

E: While I think Denver did a good job, I think they may slip out of the playoffs for this year. Thats great news for us Suns fans, Im hoping we can see a Suns v Spurs: 1 v 8 match up, it would be a lot of fun.

They were going to lose Melo anyway. Denver came out well. Too bad we couldn't have done that for Amare. Suns brass should have figured out what it was going to take to keep Amare BEFORE the trade deadline last year. Trade him before the deadline, or make sure you can sign him. We wasted a valuable asset.

Well, with amare we were the closest we've ever been to an nba championship in 17 years.

Yes. And we should have figured out whether we could have resigned him or not. And if not, we should have gotten some value.

I can't really fault management for this one. I do believe we should have signed him to the max and then moved him a year later (out of health concerns) rather than just let him walk but it really wasn't feasible earlier in the season.

Amare was just a unique situation. In addition to his knee problems, he was also trying to recover from a serious eye injury that had some concerned not just about his career but his eyesight. Given his health issues, I think a trip to the WCF was probably worth more to this organization than what little he might have brought back at the trade deadline.

Psychologically, Amare has peed on the bushes in New York, so Carmelo will be joining his team. Personality wise, Melo is no match for Amar'e either. So they will probably get along fine with one basketball.

With Stoudemire leading the Knicks with 8.6 rebounds per game, Carmelo's 7.6 will be the second highest on the team. That shouldn't hurt the Knicks either.

But it looks like replacing Felton's 9.0 team leading assists with Billups' 5.3 will hurt the Knicks. Do you guys have any ideas about that?

Between those factors and Amar'e's potential health risks, I don't see this trade moving New York into an elite status in the NBA.

But it will put people in the seats, both at home and on the road. High scoring and good regular season teams are what you get with D'Antoni anyway.

Don't forget that Stoudemire wasn't taking an extension from anyone for less than his maximum, which made the options for trade partners very limited. The same was true for Anthony, and -- surprise! -- in both cases it was the same huge-market team that was willing to overpay. The difference is that the Knicks didn't have nearly so many attractive assets a year ago to send the Suns' way.

Does anyone think if we actually traded Amare last year at the deadline...how would our team look?

I mean we were offered Noah & Thomas from the Bulls but we said no. We were offered Alridge from Portland but we said no...man.

Back on topic though, I wanna see how Billups does in a fast paced offense. Cause I dont think he has the legs to run up & down so much. He's more of a slow-paced, defensive PG.

We ASKED for Noah and Chicago said no, not the other way around. And please give a link about Portland offering Aldridge. I don't remember hearing that at all.

I remember the aldrigde thing..

I am not really big into money, and salary cap stuff at all but I have a friend who is really into that stuff on facebook saying that CP3 will most likely sign with the knicks in 2012.. Could they do this? I would figure that if they resigned melo and having amares max contract they wouldn't have enough/be able to afford CP3.

Can anyone clarify?

I'm no salary cap guru but I would imagine if Melo resigned for less than the max, and Paul also signed for less than the max (like Lebron and Bosh did in Miami last offseason) then it could be done. There wouldn't be much money left over for other players, but there would be no shortage of players who would take a paycut to play with the Knicks big 3, as has also happened in Miami.

However the new CBA might make this impossible

Exactly, some people believe that is the reason why Anthony wanted to be traded now so he could sign the extension before the season is over. A new CBA may cripple the Knicks from signing anyone else. Let's hope those knees hold up for Amare.

Glad to see Melo go where he wanted to go. No excuses for him now. I just wonder how long he will extend for in NY.

probably a max deal, he wanted the most money. He'll get that in NY.

I think they said it would be for the rest of this year, and 3 more years after that.

Random thought, is there a way we can trade for Gallinari?? I think he would be a nice fit with the Suns and Nash. He can hit the three and knows how to get to the free line.

At this point, I don't think that fitting in nice with Nash should be criteria for a trade. If management is still building around Nash, then we are in some real trouble.
