This is huge IMO. This will impact how I buy games because I do game on PS4, XBOX ONE and PC depending on the game. I have to pick and choose carefully which system I buy for but because the PS4 games do look better, most of my cross platform purchases have been for the PS4 so far.

Having said that, this might change the game for me. If I know buying a Windows 10 version or XBOX version will give me the game on the other platform for free? My PS4 might see fewer purchases going forward if this catches on (outside of exclusives).

This could be a game changer. I hope 3rd party developers jump on this bandwagon.

The only bad part is they likely still wont be on the same servers. I am still disappointed that the screen mirroring thing doesnt allow me fullscreen on two devices, just the same split screen on each device.

Umm what?! You mentioned PC, so I'm confused why you think this when comparing the 3 platforms.

heavys on point, hes talking he would buy ps4 over xbone for better graphics but if can get it on pc and xbone would rather go that route.

if they include a PC copy in the box whenever you buy an xbone game,....I am all in. It would definitely be a huge influence on my game buying decisions.

it may even stimulate sony into producing/contracting PC games so they can match the practice.
not a software guru,...wouldn't it just take a separate code line at startup to make the disc work either way? a menu maybe?

Not totally sure on what it takes, but I imagine it's a lot more than that. There have been some awful ports from consoles to PCs. There are also quite a few games that PC gamers hated because they were intentionally locked to a framerate to accommodate what next gen consoles could handle.

Apparently, XBOX exclusives are not selling as big as studios and MS hoped for. That's been limiting the studios that will agree to develop exclusive games and seriously hurting the Xbox.

I would imagine this would be for digital copies, not disc versions.

Gears of war will probably fix that even though I am not interested in it. Not sure what else has been exclusive outside of titanfall.

I'm pretty sure it's only on Xbox/Microsoft games... like Quantum Break and the like. Either first party games and/or the ones they have deals with for timed exclusives, like the new Tomb Raider.

I don't think this will work with multiplatform games like say Battlefield, Call of Duty, Fallout, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy XV etc, etc..

So it's like saying if you buy the Xbox version you'll get the PC version as well. I'm not sure it's the other way around either. Or if it is, it's not universal. I.E... if I buy Quantum Break on Steam or something like that (if I can even) then I won't get a copy attached to an Xbox Live account. I'm not even sure if you buy it from Windows Store that you get the Xbox version digitally. They should do it that way.

Overall for Xbox One owners it's a nice gesture because they don't have to decide between playing with their friends or some convenience factor (for those that don't hook up a PC to a HDTV/4ktv like they do their console and use a controller with wireless kb+m) or getting the more advanced PC version. It's almost like getting the 'remastered' version for free and five or so years early.

What it also showcases is that Microsoft desperately wants to keep people in their ecosystem. They realize many people won't buy an Xbox One because the PS4 and PC is/can be more powerful, and many people have already jumped to that and aren't looking back.

This way Microsoft can not only promote Windows 10 and get more people to upgrade/buy Windows 10, but it also creates a situation where you are still in their ecosystem.

Because there is little point in me buying an Xbox One, having a PS4/Wii U/PC... having the games on PC allows me to keep current and come back to the fold in a way that helps me keep familiar with their IP's. That way, when the Xbox Two or whatever comes out, I and all those like me are not out of touch with Microsoft and their games/services so I will be more likely to want to purchase an Xbox Two.

It's all about not pushing customers away. Microsoft wins whether you play on Xbox One or Windows 10, and they want to keep that going. They really want people to use Windows Store like Xbox gamers use the Xbox Live store.

I also second the notion that it helps the studios that can now develop either a Microsoft only game, or a timed exclusive. Tomb Raider was a debacle, because 2/3rd to 3/4ths of the audience couldn't play it. Plus they launched it on the same day as Fallout 4, and right after Halo 5 and Call of Duty BLOPS3 and just before Battlefront. Sure they got money, but the downside was, now they are going to get tanked on PS4 sales for the game. Few are going to buy the PS4 version a year late for $60 when you'll be able to buy the game on PC for $20 (or less) and Xbox One version for a similar amount. Few might be a wrong word. A lot less then it would of have been is more accurate.

By going to a PC/Xbox One model they increase that share of games to better compete against PS4 only games.

It's smart. Instead of being pig headed and lose, because they are, they are making things more consumer friendly in the best hopes of securing your business long term. I applaud MS for taking this much smarter approach.

As others clarified.....I currently game on all 3 platforms but I won't buy the same game on all 3. So given a choice between PS4 or XBOX ONE titles, I usually opt for the PS4 version because of better graphics.

However, if this takes off, I can basically get two versions (PC & XBOX ONE) for the price of one. It's a no brainer. MS will get my business for that reason alone. I will still get PS4 exclusives but that will be it.

Yeah I saw what others posted. I misunderstood the comparison. My bad :)

that is how Microsoft lost me when the xbox 360 came out. they instantly pulled the xbox and all the games from the shelf, and did not allow the old games to be played on the new system...meaning you had to start over from scratch.....and I have not bought anything xbox since.

they were trying the I-phone method of proprietary marketing I guess...I don't buy iphones either.

there should be continuity in the products

Some OG Xbox games are still on my shelf! Some titles were made backwards compatible on the 360. I pull out KOTOR every now and then for fun. My OG Xbox is long gone. Still have my PS1 and a Sega Saturn, though. :doofus:

Speaking of KOTOR, it's getting a remake using the Unreal 4 engine!

Interesting. I found this:

Looks to be PC only and free due to licensing. But, there does seem to be a possibility that Disney could come and ruin the party. Please post an update if you hear anything further! I'd love to explore some new worlds and even play through the whole thing again. I absolutely love that game.

Yep, I would mind them even redoing the sequel which had some issues that could easily be cleaned up. It would be cool to play through them again but with some enhanced graphics.
