Might as well start the road to the NIT thread

These last two games the Cats have played uninspired ball. Chase looks horrible and the team does not play defense. I had no problem with the Cal loss, but losing to Stanford was sad.

Unless this team turns it around quickly, we might as well start talking NIT.

Eh, we all knew this team was going nowhere. Over the course of a year most kids simply don't play for lame duck coaches. Wake me up when we hire a coach (it HAS to be a big name at this point, a coach like Lon Kruger or Scott Drew won't cut it) beause this team isn't worth my time.

Chase though has (or had) NBA money to play for but has been simply abhorrent. He's turning into the caucasian version of Mustafa Shakur. What is the AVP Tour paying these days?

So, was UofA just hyped up to play KU? They certainly looked like a tournament team that game.

Probably but I think a lot of it is just scouting. Pac 10 teams know they'll play UA twice so they scout them more, plus they know most of the kids from prior years(and recruiting). KU likely spends far less time scouting UA than they do a conference opponent.

In the Cal game it was so obvious the scouting Cal done against the UA zone, they just shredded that zone first with 3's and later with passes to the high post followed by back cuts for layups, they used Harper Kamp as the passer and UA didn't know what hit them.

It's just much harder to hide things when you're in the same conference.

Brian Jeffries said the exact thing today. I also think the UofA plays much better at McKale. The Cats must win both games this week.

Read in ESPN Mag that Tom Izzo is more then just a fancy idea for next years coach and friends say he is looking for a "new challenge". My guess is he is one of the people who Livengood was citing when he said "big name" coaches want this job and have called on it.

He is my top choice. IIRC he gets most of his recruits out of Michigan though. Could he recruit nationally like he would have to here?

That would be a million dollar question. Izzo has never played or coached outside of Michigan. He's been a player or coach in that state since 1973.

Still, Michigan State has easily been the most consistently good program of this decade without otherworldly recruiting classes. I think that says more than any possible recruiting deficiency.

Umm, perhaps an athletic director with the foresight and competence to keep things afloat over the interim? Countless programs have stayed the course after the retirement of a legend. Livengood better spend a lot of money this offseason as he promised, going 8-5 and beating a hapless Sun Devil squad doesn't earn you a pat on the back and carte blanche in my world.

And in case anyone was wondering why I've been silent on the Cards board, my thoughts on them will come either after we win the Super Bowl (in which case I'd probably permanently retire from the board) or lose. I'm not jinxing them with my opinions until one of those two happen.

Jamelle Horne has to be the dumbest player in the country. Cats lose a heartbreaker to USC and now any chance for the NCAA Tournament are over. Unbelievable!

Not again =(

I can't believe he did it again. You have to blame the coaching staff also. By the way, the technical foul on Wise when the Cats were up four late in the game was BS. It's only going to get uglier when ASU beats them on Wednesday.

That call was awful. It either should've been 1. a no call, or 2. technical fouls on both players.

After watching the replay a few times, how can the ref call a technical on Wise? Instead of the Cats being up by six with under four minutes to go, USC ties it and it's a new ballgame. Pac-10 refs have always suck. Look at last year when USC once again got the benefit call against ASU in the Pac-10 tournament. Hansen needs to go.

It should have been a foul on Lewis for knocking Wise out of bounds. If you call anything on Wise you have to call it on Lewis too because he only made contact with Dwight because he was straddling Wise's body trying to prevent him from getting up.

USC is the dirtiest team I've seen in ages they have Washington hitting Griffin in the nuts, Hackett constantly hitting opponents in the face with his Ginobili flops, and now this crap from Lewis.

The worst part is UA had a dunk on that play but that got wiped out so they lost 2 points, and USC gained 2 points and the ball.

And yes, horne has to be the dumbest player in the country to do that foul intentionally in a tie game again.
