Sorry, Steelers fans, veteran analyst Mike Florio may be right about a few criticisms regarding the Aaron Rodgers hate train that has been full send in the Steel City.
Florio, the creator of NBC’s ProFootballTalk, recently took aim at the Black and Gold faithful for their intense—and, frankly, overreactions—to the possibility of Rodgers landing in Pittsburgh:
“With momentum building toward quarterback Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers, plenty of Steelers fans aren’t happy about the expected development. To those fans we say this: Seriously?”
He acknowledged that the gap between Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger was a long 20 years, but Rodgers could be the stop-gap for the time being—and potentially help the Pittsburgh Steelers win their first playoff game in eight years.
Empathy was shown for Steelers fans, as Florio understands why the Rodgers hate exists, but he ultimately called for the embracement of the four-time MVP and former Super Bowl champion:
“We know. Rodgers took a heel turn in 2021. He more than dabbles in conspiracy theories. He relitigates stale controversies. He can be exhausting. He can be insufferable. But he’s still a very good quarterback. So don’t hate it, Steelers fans. Embrace it. Come January, you’ll be glad you did.”
It appears fans won’t truly accept Rodgers in the Steel City until he delivers a playoff win for the Pittsburgh Steelers—but honestly, is Florio asking for too much here?
