I guarantee all of you that the Cards will sign Gandy. Why they have interest in this guy I don't know but you can bet they will overpay him and sign him today or Monday.

They will begin to go in panic mode because of the LD siging and overpay for this guy.

Yup and we'll probably pay for for him than we would have paid Big.

I dont think they will panic. If they were they already would have. The Cards had absolutely no intentions to bring him back, dispite what they were saying in the public.

I think they honestly think that one of Gandy, Ross, Wells, Gorin, draftee can man the OT positions.

IF it's Gandy, I doubt they would be stupid enough to overpay for him.

Joeshmo....

IMO Gandy is a very average lineman. I would rather have Jordan Black who at lease is a little younger and could get better. Gandy is as good as he is going get. If I recall they always have liked this guy for whatever reason..

:biglaugh:

If he signs here, it's because we "overpay" him. These guys aren't going to take "fair" deals just to make Graves look good.

Mike Gandy's agent has us by the short hairs. He couldn't have dreamed up a better negotiating position for his client.

Gandy is a very average Tackle, IMO the best tackle on the market right now is Colombo.

If he gets, let's say 5 yrs 20 million, he's still going to be overpaid. I don't think Gandy is much better than Oliver Ross. Hell, I'd rather start Ross and throw a big wad of chash at Joey Porter and then start praying for Thomas to fall. Scratch that, I'd then try to trade up with Detroit to get Thomas.

Want to hear the bad news?

Gandy failed miserably at T. He played G in college and when moved back to LG last year in Buff...he played better.

The bad news is the Cards will sign him to a T contract and want him to play T.

I agree.

If Graves is aggressive in the draft and gets one of the four really good LTs prospects then I can live with this plan - although it's a different route than I would have taken.

Wells, Gorin, Ross, Black/Gandy and a high draftpick at OT. It's a big gamble from Graves , but we should have better odds of pulling this of than any other team, because our LT have an easier job because Leinart is a lefty.

That gives fringe starters like Black or Gandy a better chance of being succesfull and it's should make it easier for the rookie to step right in as a starter.

For whatever reason

The Cards have no intention of going after Colombo and you think they would now that Dallas spent a ton of money on LD. I think this team needs a scouting department overhaul.

Agreed, and I hope we sign him. I really do.

Though I cannot see why Gandys agent would have ideal conditions to make a killer deal for his client.

I mean, if Whisenhunt and Grimm really thought our offensive line were that bad, I doubt that they would not have persecuted Steinbach, McIntosh, Dockery, Dielman, even Davis more than they allegedly have.

I do not think they see the line as bad as some of us do.

Oliver Ross is almost their own invention.
Brandon Gorin cannot be that bad if he has been in two super bowls.
Reggie Wells ended last campaign fine.
Deuce Lutui is at least a decent talent.
The Browns are not that bad either.
Leckey is a good starter.

I would be surprised if we signed someone out of panic.

Whisenhunt probably believe that we can draft some great prospects, and in that way upgrade a line that he even think is okey as it is.
Which does not mean that it cannot be improved I might add.

A big gamble? It's the same gamble we took last year and it cost us the season.

I've heard this reasoning a lot this offseason and I don't really agree with it. Yes, Leinart will be able to see the guy who is about to drill him in the chest and pound his shoulder into the ground. But, the fact is the best DEs play over the LT, so the defense will be getting the matchup they want anyhow if our best T is at RT.

That's what I don't get. Columbo and Pettigout are the best OT's out there why not bring both of them in that way OL isn't that big of a need and go after Landry or Adams in the first round.

I have no idea who officially stated we were not going after Colombo, Petitgout or maybe both, but until that happens or they sign for someone else I cannot see why we bury Graves already.

Then why did Dallas sign Big instead? Hmmmm
It could be for the same reason that Denver threw a ton of money at Jake Plummer so long age - "The only reason he hasn't been better is because he played for the Cardinals."

Don't think that is a solid comparison.

Big will get the last laugh.

My point is that players don't really improve once they leave here. Especially the ones who have been here for six years. They are what they are. The only exception to that would be Thomas Jones and he didn't have as much of a chance to prove himself as Leonard did (and he wasn't here for six years). Did Hearst or Rice suck while they were here? No. Hearst was a Buddy Ryan screw up. Rice was a Pro Bowler while here.

You sure are correct. At over $400,000 per game and performing at the level he has, he will be laughing on his way to the bank for 7 years!!
