may be best suited as an offensive guard

Hey, now there's something the Cards haven't tried before, taking a guy suited to play Guard and making him the Left Tackle.

You may have had a point if Gandy actually played LT for more then half the season while in Buffalo. He played OG more then he played LT last year.

He played 7 games at LT and 9 games at LG after the bye.

I took the liberty of looking through the play by play for Buffalo's first 7 games and focused on runs off of left tackle and left end.

Buffalo called 40 run plays off of left tackle and left end in the first 7 games for 238 yds. That averages out to 5.95 YPC.

As I said, Mike Gandy can run block.

I'd be happy if we signed Gandy and Johnson.

Good mid-tier aquisitions for our Oline that have starting experience. What the hell is wrong with that?

Nothing, so long as it's paired with bringing in bonefide starters to fill our holes.

Which holes do you see and the starters in FA that would fill them? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure at this point, either our first or second round pick will be OT.

As long as neither is expected to be a long term starter I have no problem either. Gandy has to be better than Wakefield at OT and Johnson has to be better than Stepanovich...but neither should be considered anymore than quality depth, not starting material.

While evaluating Gandy, remember that our position needs differ from teams with right handed QB's.

Our LT won't be protecting Matt's blind side. At the same time, moving a RT who played in front of a right handed QB over to LT might prove to be a tricky adjustment for the guy to make.

But taking a LT who can run block (Gandy) and leaving him at LT might be a pretty good fit.

CB: This one is the only whiff I see so far in FA. There was a top CB out there, and we didn't even talk to him or even look his way.

LT isn't strong in FA and I really think we are either going to get Thomas, Brown or someone like Staley or Ugoh.

FS I would like to see good help here...why aren't we going after Ken Hamlin?

OLB...Aren't they moving people around on the LB corp? Or did I hear that wrong?

They don't have enough peas to play the shell game. Johnson and Dansby and....who else are OLBs?

Code:
SLB 58 Karlos Dansby 97 Calvin Pace 59 Brandon Johnson
MLB 54 Gerald Hayes 52 Monty Beisel
WLB 57 Orlando Huff 55 Darryl Blackstock

I hadn't really looked at our LBs as close as I should have. Boy is that a weak sauce LB corp.

If we are fortunate enough to land Joe Thomas in the first round... I think we gotta grab an LB in Round two... After Dansby and Hayes we have nothing but crap... and with the propensity for injury that those two guys have... we're takin a big risk if we dont add some LB depth
