I don't understand the hating on Fitzgerald. In 2003:

Mike Williams

Rec Yds YPC TD
95 1,314 13.8 16

Larry Fitzgerald

92 1,672 18.2 22

Fitzgerald's statistics are better than Williams's and he didn't have Matt Leinart throwing to him or another receiver on the other side who caught passes for 1,013 yards like Kerry Colbert did. The next best receiver at Pitt was Kris Wilson with 643 yards.

And before you bring up the Miami and VA Tech games, in 2002 when Tech and Miami had superior teams, Fitzgerald had 7 rec. for 74 yards and a TD against the Hurricanes and 5 rec. for 105 yards and 3 TD's against the Hokies.

Fitz is going to be a big time player at the next level. He is definitely deserving of the #3 pick.

Wow.

Mike Williams is THE best player in the draft now, IMO. FitzGerald would not have gone top 8, also IMO, because his height isn't great enough to make up for that very poor 40 yd time.

A gentle reminder - a few of us, including vikesfan, predicted the Clarett decision would cause some juniors to rethink their positions and declare under the same rules and timetable the NFL set for high school players. And there is nothing the NFL can do about it.

They can just not draft the high schoolers. But the floodgates seem to be opening now.

With Williams coming out I think this gives us a reasonable shot at Manning. Because in this scenerio I see the Chargers taking Williams and Oakland taking Fitz, with Manning falling to us.

Exactly. If Williams didn't have a very good WR across from him, he would've matched Fitz's numbers easily. He didn't benefit from Colbert's presence, as much as Colbert took some grabs and yards away from him.

I think it's too funny we are arguing over which one!!!!! Put either Fitzgerald or Williams with Boldin & BJ and we have one of the scariest receiving cores in the NFL next year..... and if both are taken ahead of us you take Eli Manning and then maybe take a WR at the top of the 2nd round and still get a good one...............maybe Rashaun Woods...............

No matter what happens I think we have a chance to improve alot in the draft.... it's a deep draft and we have the #3..... and the 1st pick in the 2nd & 3rd rounds... along with probably a compensatory pick in the 3rd.....In a deep draft this is a great problem

Plus it's a lot harder to catch balls when you're standing on the sideline with your pads out, a baseball hat on, drinking gatorade with a 28 point lead after the first drive of the 3rd quarter.

I'd love to see split stats on Mike if anybody knows where to get them I'd bet the vast majority of his TD's come in the first half of games I'd be very surprised if he had a lot of them in the 2nd halves because he was often not playing due to the score.

If Green sticks to his BPA theory it might be two receivers with the 1st and 2nd picks... imagine a 4 WR set with Quan, Williams or Fitz, Johnson, and Evans/Woods/etc and Freddie Jones.... there isnt a team in the league that could trot out 4 DBs that could cover those guys. That would be a much better group than the Rams put on the field when the set all of those records as the greatest show on turf... I think we would be called the greatest show on earth...yeah..thats pretty bad...but you get the idea...

That would only happen if we sign 2 CB and a DT/DE.

I do not believe that San Diego will take Mike Williams. They were never in the mix during all the ongoing Fitzgerald to Oakland talk. While some reports have Marty souring on Boston, I see him coming around and returning as a force again next year. Plus, if Marty really wants a WR, there will be a dandy one available for them with their early round 2 pick.

My head tells me that Eli remains Schottenheimer's pick.

What happens next with Oakland will be the interesting thing. Do they remain steadfast with Fitzgerald or does big Al now take Williams. Either way, we can access a WR for the ages in either of them. My guess is that Oakland will take Williams.

Williams' declaration really turns things upside down as it pertains to a trade down and unfortunately, this is now an unlikely option for us.

NY Giants will be hard pressed to pass on Ben R. even though they really could have used Gallery, who I now see going to Washington at #5. Detroit will take Taylor (and if they win the Bailey sweeps will have a defense that will become the very best in the league).

Atlanta will take Andrews and Cleveland go crazy with Roesthlisberger falling to them at #8. Jacksonville will step up and grab Roy Williams with Houston going for Kellen Winslow.

The next thing to mwss up everyone's draft board will be how Udeze measures out during the combine.

You're right about Manning. He might still be #1. The thing I find hard to believe is Gallery going to the Skins when they have bookend tackles signed to a long term deal and just pony up money for OG Thomas last year. I hardly figure they will give up more money for a another O-line. Now regarding about the Cards. If Mike Williams goes to the Bolts and Fitz is there the Cards will scoop him up right away, I don't think we use all the 15 minutes of the draft.

You have the Giants and Browns both taking Roethlisberger.

I think MW entering the draft insured Taylor will drop out of the top 5. It may also push Fitz out of the top 5 as well. If Ben does well in his workouts and interivews then he still goes top 5.

Now the Giants become a bigger player in the draft. Will they take a QB if one falls to them. If so a team like Cleveland or Pittsburg may want to move up and get him. Does Rivers ease the need for Ben. The Cards may find themselves being courted for their #3 pick if the Browns or Steeler's really want Ben.

So if the:

Chargers take Manning

Raiders take MW

Cards trade to Browns
Browns take Ben

Gaints take ??? Gallery / Fitz / Taylor

Redskins take Jackson or Jones or Winslow or Udeze or Wilfork

Lions take ... Fitz if he is still there or a RB or Taylor

Falcons take ... Fitz or D-line

Cards take whoever is left out of these blue chip players and then fills a need with the extra pick(s) acquried from the Browns.

This is a no lose situatuion for the Cards.

Top rated players at this point:

Eli
Ben
MW
Fitz
Taylor
Gallery
Winslow
Udeze

Next level of talent

Wilfork
Tommie Harris
Roy Williams
Reggie Williams
Jackson
Jones

Next level

Too many players to be mentioned.

At this point 14 players may be ranked as can't miss so if the Cards stay in the top 11 picks they will definetly get a quality player at a position of need.

I like that scenerio but do you really think Green will trade down if Fitz is still there on the board? I don't think so, like I said unless the Cards were being offer a Ricky Williams trade a couple of years ago Green won't move down at all.

Eli and Williams will be the top 2 picks.

DG will take his former ball boy at the Vikings Fitz in round 3.

I would pick Big Ben but....won't cry with Fitz.
