USC's only national games are on Fox Sports and TBS, otherwise they are only regional. There may be something to an east coast bias, but with Williams and Fitzgerald, it's just ridiculous to think that that is what separates them. EVERYONE knew (or should have) who Mike Williams was this year.
USC actually had two Nationally televised games both on ABC the parent company of ESPN. I don't think that the West Coast and Southwest saw more of Fitz than Williams and the Midwest was saturated with Texas and Oklahoma. If any team should have felt left out it was LSU for National games. MW even thou he was a sophmore should have gotten more pr for the Heisman. Fitz deserved all the Hype he got in that conferance. This debate is silly. Yesterday... you guys were saying that Fitz was a Franchise player and now he can't carry MW jock strap....???? I think the truth is some where in between on this one. MW and Fitz will both go at the top of the draft. They will be very rich and have long careers. I saw more of MW than I did of Fitz this year and he is a Franchise Player....and I believe Fitz will be also. I will take either at 3 but I suspect it will be Manning or a trade down. This is good news for the cards. No Roth.

Well then how come so many draft experts said Palmer was an "iffy" selection?

And Carr came out of nowhere and it's still quite common to see people say he's not very good.

Nobody was nearly as glowing about either of them as they are about Manning.

Since 1990 I would say there were 3 "west coast" Heisman winners, Detmer, Ricky Williams, and Palmer, and only Palmer played in the western time zone.

In fact since 1981 only 2 guys by my count playing home games in the Pacific Time zone have won the Heisman, Palmer, and Marcus Allen.

Do I think the bias is narrowing, yes, but do I think there's still a lot of folks on the East Coast who don't see West Coast teams play, absolutely.

I did misunderstand your first post I thought you were saying Palmer and Carr were examples of overrated West Coast Players, not players who didn't get ignored.

Nah, no one is saying that. Just debating some of the knocks being put on both players.

No matter what, you are correct. This was a big day for the Cards, whether they draft Fitz, Manning or Williams. Williams declaring improved our position considerably.

Before this everyone had Manning going to the Chargers simply because they need a quarterback. Most people felt that Fitz was a better player than Manning. Nothing has changed with the Chargers needs. It might make it easier for them to trade down though as they would still have a shot at getting one of the 2 best QB's in the draft as far down as #5.
The Redskins are in a great position to make a trade. They are rumored to be shopping Ramsey. They are shopping Bailey. They could use a dominating wideout opposite their key free agent acquisition of last year.
The Chargers do need another QB as I mentioned before but they also need defensive help. Word is that they are shopping Jammer.
So work this trade out;
Redskins get Jammer and the #1 along with additional picks depending on who they give up. With the first pick they select Mike Williams, Larry Fitzgerald, Eli Manning or Ben Roethlisberger.
Chargers get Bailey and /or Ramsey and the #5 pick. With that pick they should still have a choice of either Manning, Roethlisberger or Sean Taylor. They also won't have to pay as much.

I don't deny that their is an east coast bias, I just don't think that Fitzgerald vs. Williams is an example of it. It is definitely there, especially in the awards hype and All-American selections and rankings. But going into the draft, by this time of year, the players and their numbers speak for themselves.

Who won the Heisan last year wasn't it an overhyped west coast guy. To say a guy gets better hype playing at Pitt. compare to USC is nuts.
M Williams hype is all bout that 1 catch he made. Fitz made a lot of catches like that.

The reason Fitz was #2 in Heisman voting was cause in his second year of college he produced a great season. Too bad M Williams did not do that.

Repeating the same lies about Fitz is getting old. He played against legit competition and produced a great season. Too bad M Williams did not do that. Too bad M Williams got shut down more then Fitz.

Stick em hands that describes Fitz to a tee. Their speed until measured seems to be about the same and USC had a great offensive co-ordinator.

I am not dissing M Williams. I just don't get the Fitz hate. Williams is a very good pick and so is Fitz. On the bust-o-meter I rate Fitz higher I think he is much less likely to bust then M Williams. But either is solid pick but Fitz seems slightly safer and better.

Mike Williams is a special player and quite possibly the best player in this draft. I am not dissing Fitzgerald, I think he is a great player too I just think Williams is better.

I don't know how Williams is as far as character goes in comparison to Fitzgerald but talentwise with what I have seen with my own eyes, Williams is the more explosive player.

My draft 2 cents is this--I want a franchise QB, I think we are ok at WR and if Ben or Eli are there at #3 I hope we don't pass on them because I fear we will regret it later. I don't want a WR and I especially don't want a Safety at #3. The reality is Green will do what he wants and we'll have to live with it--I just really hope its Green calling the shots and not Rod Graves who got fleeced by New Orleans last year.
