I wasn't overly concerned whether he stayed or not when I thought Jackson was coming here. Now that JJ is likely Kansas-bound and Simon is leaving they would've been thin on the wing so its important he returned. Otherwise you would've had five major contributors (expected) that have never played college bball. This incoming class should be a building block class like the Ashley/Tarc/York class.

Yeah I've never been a York fan I'm just saying if there was a black hole on UA last year it was Trier moreso than York IMO. You saw it as the year went on lots of Pac 12 teams starting to just double Trier when he got the ball because they didn't think he'd pass. Great talent but he looks to shoot first.

My personal opinion is with better athletes around him PJC will look much better on offense and they might end up going PJC, Trier and Alkins 1-3 next year with Simmons backing up PJC. I'm not a huge Ferguson or Simmons fan I think Trier is way better than either and I think Alkins is better than Ferguson. Ferguson great leaper can make the 3 but not the overall game. I'm a huge Alkins fan, if he's 2 inches taller he's a lottery pick IMO needs to lean out a bit but he's more D1 ready than Simmons or Ferguson who both need to get stronger.

Very athletic group.

Alkins is probably ranked too low while Ferg is too high. Unless he's a York caliber sniper I could see him not getting major minutes right away. Rawle and Ray look to be more complete players.

Not sure about Kobi yet.

Lauri Markkanen is going to Arizona, per his coach. He isn't declaring for the Draft. Rumors circulated after pulling out of Hoop Summit.

Um ok?

I posted that here over a week ago there were rumors he was considering it if he showed well at the Hoop Summit ala Dirk. I think him pulling out is good news it means the NBA scouts won't get a few days to watch him in practice decide he's good enough and then urge him to go pro.

No idea, he's been playing semi pro in Finland but the story now is he's been sick for 5 weeks and cant' play. Doesn't wash with playing overseas unless he's been there but not playing.

But if I were a UA fan I'd be very happy he's not playing it means the scouts won't see him. Not sure why the rumor you posted said him pulling out had sparked rumors, he's perfectly allowed to play in that game and then turn pro if I understand teh deadlines correctly.

My guess is he considered it, played semipro overseas to test himself and decided he could use a year at Arizona.

Ferguson is a great athlete and he can make the 3 but he doesn't have the rest of the game yet, he isn't dangerous off the bounce, doesn't move off screens etc most of his game is dunks and 3's, typical AAU player.

Alkins is a complete package, very good off the dribble, gets his own shot with that and the muscle to the hoop stuff. Outside shot got much better last year although still not a great shooter but he can make contested shots. Better defender than Ferguson although Ferguson has the talent to be a great defender.

Alkins is ball dominant like Trier, but he can really score. I would be amazed if he's not ahead of Ferguson in the rotation it'll be interesting to see if Ferguson actually picks UA because IMO with Trier and Alkins he's not going to play that much more than say 15 MPG.

Because it happened the day after Thon Maker declared using his international status as his primary argument for circumventing the draft rule. The fear was Markk was gonna try the same thing.

From what I've read the NBA already considers him to be draft eligible though.

Here's Draft Express "Already committed to Arizona, Finnish forward Lauri Markkanen is yet another big man with the ability to score inside and out. He is technically eligible to declare for the 2016 NBA Draft, but will likely prefer to wait at least a year or two"

I don't think he needs to circumvent the rule he's already draft eligible his case is different than Maker.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to me it's GOOD news for Arizona that he pulled out of the Hoop Summit.

Ferguson told reporters yesterday he "hopes" to announce on April 13th.

Jackson is expected to announce sometime next week.

With late April as his personal decision deadline, Ferguson wants to first visit N.C. State and North Carolina before making a college decision.

Arizona has a significant lead in the Crystal Ball, but North Carolina is the most recent prediction for Ferguson.

And now Jackson told USA Today he's announcing Monday from his house in Detroit.

Also did a nice job when some reporter decided to ask him off the wall questions about his 3 finalists.

If he was in a lifeboat and all 3 coaches were drowning and he could only save 1, who would he save. He said Sean Miller has the best relationship with him having played U19 for him.

Which coach would make the best president, Bill Self said he looks like a president.

In a UFC fight which coach would win, Izzo for sure, tough guy with tough teams.

Give teh reporter credit for not asking the same questions.

Ferg hit seven 3's in the hoop summit. Inb4 he visits Kentucky and Duke.

I could see UK being interested but based on reports there's no way he'd qualify at Duke.

One of the UA fans I talk to regularly says insiders are insisting Jackson has told the UA staff he is coming to Arizona.

I guess we find out tomorrow. As he said this could be like Justise Winslow who told Duke, UA and UCLA that he was coming to all 3 of them. I don't know about UA but with UCLA he told the staff the night before he committed to Duke that he was coming to UCLA. And has admitted that on the day he announced he was still wavering between UCLA and Duke. Jackson insists the decision has been made so I hope he tells the staffs in advance, he seems like a good kid though and these insider reports are always impossible to verify.

Exactly why I hate recruiting. Not picking on you Russ, just lamenting the amount of bull surrounding a 18 year old.

"I know a fan who knows an insider who knows a staff member who talked to Jackson…"

Exactly.

We actually had a debate on the free UCLA BRO board where UA fans were insisting they were 2nd for Winslow and UCLA fans were insisting they were because of his quotes abotu nearly picking UCLA. If you think about it who cares if your second?

The kids change their minds all the time you just gotta wait and see.

FYI as I mentioend earlier(I think here) Deryck Thornton is leavign Duke, wants to come closer to home, I don't expect UCLA to go after him I think UA will as will Oregon.

I think he'll end up at Michigan they're saying he wants to be closer to home but I think he just wanted out of Duke because of Frank Jackson. His uncle on twitter blasted Duke, said the coaches lied to him to get him to leave Findlay a year early and come to Duke.

UA recruited him out of HS and they have a good connection to Findlay which is why people are mentioning them. I expect Oregon will be involved too but apparently Michigan was his 2nd choice out of HS.

I have no idea on Jackson, his mom has made it very clear she was sick of shoe companies trying to influence things, ironically she was complaining about Nike not Adidas she said she got tired of it said we won't pick a school because of what kind of shoe they're wearing.

I think if he announces today as planned it sure seems like at least one set of coaches will find out today they aren't actually getting him. I think MSU already knows they aren't.

Apparently picking Kansas was bad for PGU? I tried to look because a friend told me Ace had stated emphatically Jackson to Arizona as recently as today on the pay part. The whole site is down, says database error.

I was hoping to get to watch him up close and personal but can't fault him he's a perfect fit at KU.

I would assume Ferguson pops for Arizona on Wed now.

I haven't been able to access the PF since the announcement. I didn't see ACE's last update around 5.

It's funny to see that Chad Ford has Ferguson as a top-10 pick since his Hoop Summit performance.

What a stunner that PGU whiffs on a prediction and then goes full turtle mode. He hasn't even updated his Twitter since the announcement.

As for Ferg, as long as he doesn't visit UNC, he should be Zona bound.

That's why I would never pay for premium on recruiting sites, those guys are like weather people...they can't predict ****. They frown upon and ban people who post information on the free boards because they don't want subscribers to figure out their information isn't worth paying for.

I have a membership on Wildcat Authority (Scout). They're not as outspoken as PGU, but their information is fairly solid (I've known it was KU for JJ for a number of weeks at this point) and, for the most part, the people on the premium board are very knowledgeable about the team and its history.
