Why is this again? Because you think he is too good for ASU, or not Good enough?

no, because he knows everything. couldn't you tell his "inside source" was going strong the past couple of weeks?

Did we get a big name coach or not?

And I'll be happy to admit I was wrong on Livengood. Of course it was the money generated from the program Lute built and the a bit of nudging from Calipari who got it done. Pretty safe to say at this point that Cal was all lined up to go to Tucson before UK entered the picture.

Good going with the Miller hire. Is it going to be a total rebuild of the program for him?

Big name? not on par with Pitino, Calipari, or the others you thought you would get. But hey, Miller is the savior, this should be fun.

Do I really need to go back and show you all the times I said Pitino wasn't coming? And Calipari was going to be the next coach until UK entered the picture. I did correctly predict you'd pathetically try to marginalize whatever hire we did make so thanks for proving me right on that one.

Miller as of right now has the third best resume of any coach in the Pac-10 and did it all at a mid-major. He's the next tier behind the big boys and that's only because he hasn't gotten a crack at a real school.

I'm not marginalizing him.

What's the connection between Miller and Calipari, Miller played at Pitt not UMASS?

Nice hire if true, good for UA and the conference to get a new young good coach to replace Bennett.

Love the hire, all things considered. Even if this can count as something good on Livengood's resume, the road to this point has been littered with potholes. Considering what he's done to the football program, he needed to go a long time ago.

Not sure, but they're friendly.

Love the hire. Period. Miller shot down Indiana and Marquette last season and was next on Kentucky's list after Calipari. The guy's a terrific coach, only Jeff Capel belongs in the conversation of coaches under 40 and Miller's done it at a school with much less to offer.

Congratulations on what appears to be a good hire for you. Going with a successful mid-major guy has worked for us with Capel here in Norman, and we hope you have the same kind of results over in Pac-10 land we've had in the Heartland.

(actually, we both want better...it's coming!)

I like Miller even more now. Instead of running away in the middle of the night like some coaches he's facing the media in Cincinnati and taking questions.

Huge Huge HUGE

Alot of twists and turns but considering where this looked all of 3 hours ago I am freaking ecstatic. I am all about results so I'll give JL a reprieve. This was a niiiice save and much better then Floyd who I was talking myself into.

Everything I have heard about this guy I like. Now all I am left wondering is what happens if UK doesn't open up. Oh well. Hopefully Miller can recruit because he is already one hell of a coach.

what exactly was Cals role in this?

Miller's a terrific recruiter. He consistently lands top 100 players despite the limitations of his conference and school and one of his assistants used to run the NY Gauchos which is one of the premiere AAU programs in the country. He'll also likely bring on his brother Archie formerly of ASU who is Ohio State's recruiting coordinator under Thad Matta and some other unnamed coach with West Coast connections.

Arizona now has the third best coaching staff on the West Coast at worst.

Doesn't that put ASU head-to-head with UA on some recruits now? I guess the Russian kid probably isn't the mix, but wasn't there a kid from Georgia, too?

Rumor has it Miller may bring his brothers on board as assistants (they had nepotism rules at X and he couldn't). One of his brothers is the lead recruiter at Ohio State and if he comes look for him to bring a 5* recruit or two next year from OSU's class.

This is a great, not good hire for UA.

I still am interested to read if UA is paying the reported $2 mil buyout in Miller's contract and if the new contract is for 5 or 7 years.

Also interested to know how this impact's ASU's chances to get Kyryl (can't remember his last name right now). Supposedly that was down to ASU and Xavier. Does Herb land him now? Can Miller convince him to come to UA?

That doesn't diminish the fact that Arizona still walked away with a coach who was on the wishlist of quite a few heavy hitters, Kentucky pre-Calipari included.

Miller's a very good coach, who has won 57 games and taken Xavier to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight respectively in the last two seasons. He's won 120 games in 5 years, and has made the tourney in all but his first season at Xavier.

He's a whiz kid, a good recruiter and a good xs and os coach.

Had Arizona "looked the other way", Memphis would have hired him in a heartbeat, I'm sure of that.

Not sure. And Gambo and Ash are reporting that Miller to UA is a done deal so I'm guessing it falls apart sometime before the press conference.

I really hope Miller is able to keep Geary on the staff. Geary has the west coast ties and is passionate about restoring Arizona's Basketball image. But if he wants to go with his own people that's fine too.
